When designing a home for yourself, you have to take the time and think about what works in the space, but also get to know your own taste and try out different things that make you feel comfortable. After two years of living in this apartment, I feel like most rooms are coming together by now, but the living room was always the hardest room to work with. I’m very happy with the turn of the century ceiling painting that was kept intact and I think it’s absolutely beautiful, but it also makes it more difficult to decorate this room.
I recently started introducing tints of beige and grey into the living room and added a warmer beige tint of curtains to the windows. I really loved the warm touch these items gave the total look and decided to paint the living room wall in a very warm light grey to match the other grey and beige items that I think work so nicely in this room. This color works great with the warm tints of painted ceiling as well.
Those of you who follow me on Instagram might have noticed that I recently changed our old sofa with an Ikea Söderhamn 3 seater customised with a Bemz Loose Fit cover in in a dark grey linen, also shown in the last three pictures of this blogpost. I really like this change, as the old sofa was just too big for this long and narrow room. Bemz makes custom covers for IKEA furniture with loads of high end fabrics to completely transform your IKEA furniture to reflect your own style.
After painting the wall and introducing some more beige items, I decided to also update the sofa to match this lighter and warmer color scheme. After placing an order for a few fabric samples to get a feeling for the color and fabric texture, chose a cover in Silver Grey Simply Linen. I love to have the option to change the look of the sofa and to be able to wash the cover when needed.
While usually people go for darker colors when the colder months are about to arrive, I feel like this change into a lighter, yet warmer and tone-on-tone color palette looks more soft and cozy. It’s a true pleasure to cuddle up in this corner now that the evenings are getting darker and colder and I finally feel like the look of this room is coming together.
Getting to know what works for you and your home is a slow process and you can learn a lot by changing small things like pillows, blankets, prints and small accessories. Being able to change the cover of a sofa is such an easy way to give a room an update or refresh. I’m someone that likes to change things around at home constantly and love that I can now switch between the two covers and possibly new fabrics to keep updating this look.
