I love a good side table as you might have read here on the blog before. It’s such a versatile piece of furniture, which can be used for different purposes and can be moved around the house to change the look and update a space.
Last week I received two Piloti side tables from Fredericia Furniture in solid oak to try out and I love the warmth the oiled oak wood of this simple yet striking design adds to my home. The Piloti tables come in different materials and sizes and are designed by Hugo Passos.
You can combine two tables of the same size and wood grain like I did in my living room or you can combine pieces of different leg heights and use them as nesting tables (this would be amazing for plants wouldn’t it ?). I love the way the pieces look combined together, but even on their own, the design looks eye-catching. I placed another Piloti table next to my bed as a bedside table and I love how the design looks so simple, yet if you look closer you see the exceptional lines of the woodwork, which connects the solid oak surface with the table legs.
I think a combination of a smoked oak and oiled oak Piloti table in two different sizes could be a really nice setup for a coffee table as well. Depending on the size of the living room, you can combine larger or smaller versions of the table and if you move or decide to use the tables for another purpose, you can always add another size. It’s a design that can grow with you and can adjust to your space and needs.
Portuguese-born, London-based designer Hugo Passos designs everyday objects that are familiar and enjoyable, both in form and use. He stays true to his view that designs must first and foremost serve their purpose and “do what they’re supposed to”, while also paying great attention to the materials, structure, and ergonomics that influence the use and final synthesis of the design.
I think the designer captured the essence of a side table in its simplicity and if you think it looks great in the pictures, wait until you can run your hand over the smooth oak wood, it feels so amazing!
This blog post was created in collaboration with Fredericia Furniture, however, all opinions are my own of course. If you would like to know more about the brand and their designs, you can visit their website or find them on Instagram here.
