Wallpaper headboards with Eijffinger

I’m a big fan of a great statement wallpaper wall and think it can add depth and personality to an interior that goes way further than adding paint to a room. The times that wallpapers were associated with your grandma’s home are long gone and it became a quick and easy way to transform your home and give it a new look. I have always been curious to see what’s the effect of a great wallpaper design in my own home, which is why I was so happy to team up with the lovely people from Eijffinger to try out two of my favorites from their collection in my bedroom.

Founded by Anna Eijffinger and her husband Theo in 1875 in the Netherlands, the brand has a long tradition of producing wallpaper while always being interested in the latest decorating trends, the latest colors, designs, and material innovations.

A wallpaper headboard

I live in a rental apartment here in Munich and I’m not allowed to hang wallpaper on the walls (one more reason I hope to own my own place one day). This didn’t mean I can’t be creative with the walls and change the look and personality of the room though and I went ahead and picked my two favorite designs to create two different headboards for my bed.

I went for two distinct looks, a light one with a subtle print (Geonature) and a darker, bold design (Terra) which I mounted on an MDF board that I got at my local hardware store. The Eijffinger Smartpaper doesn’t require you to apply the paste on the wallpaper itself, you can just add the paste on the wall (or board in my case) with a roller and apply the paper onto the wall, no need for a table. I always thought that applying wallpaper was difficult and hard work, but trying it out for this DIY made me realize it is not at all!

I used the boards as a headboard for my bed and got creative with styling the different looks. The Geonature design is very light and subtle, yet adds a graphic touch that is very delicate. I styled it with light and cool objects, which gave the bedroom a very fresh and clean look. The Terra design is way bolder and more graphic, which makes it much more of a statement in a room. I love the gold details in the paper, which add a subtle shine that looks luxurious and sophisticated. I styled this look with darker textiles and tints of wood which bring out the warm elements in the paper even more.

I’m amazed by how little effort I was able to completely change the look of my bedroom. I think working with a board like this is great for anyone who can’t hang wallpaper and wants to add a bolder touch to a room. It can also be a great way to find out if a certain design would work in a room and being that the Eijffinger Smartpaper is removable by just pulling it off, I can even use the same boards multiple times to create a different setting in my bedroom.

This blog post was created in collaboration with Eijffinger, however, all opinions are my own of course. You can get inspiration on Eijffinger’s Pinterest page in case you are looking to change the look of your home. My readers from Belgium and the Netherlands can buy the designs straight from their webshop. Readers from other countries can find a store nearby in the Store Locator.
