When I moved into my new home, smoke detectors were already installed by the owner of the apartment, but I was so excited to be replacing them with the Bosch Smart Home Twinguard smoke detector. I had these smart smoke detectors in my previous home as well and they do so much more than just detecting smoke.
Other then warning you in case of a fire, it continuously monitors air quality, temperature and relative humidity and promotes healthier living. I installed the Twinguard in my bedroom, where I find it most important to measure air quality. I have the device installed for about a week now and I noticed it can get a bit dry in my bedroom, which I guess is common during the winter months. I’m thinking about buying a humidifier to fix this.
With the colder temperatures we are having here in Munich for the last days, the heating is always on during the day. Even though I always turn it off at night, I notice it can still be quite warm in my bedroom when I go to bed. I read that an optimal sleeping temperature is 16-18°C so I will usually check the Bosch Smart Home App when I’m getting ready for bed and I will leave the window open for a bit when I see it’s a bit too warm.
You can also define the values of air quality that you find optimal for your room in the app and it will notify you when the realtime values deviate too much from this. You can even program the Twinguard system with other Bosch Smart home devices and have your Philips Hue lamps flashing when your room gets too warm or stuffy.
All Bosch Smart Home products are connected through the Smart Home system, which means they can offer a wide array of functionality in your home. When smoke is detected, the alarm will sound on all Twinguard devices installed in your home and you can even program your indoor and outdoor cameras to turn on and send images to your phone in case of a detected emergency. In case a burglary is detected by a Door/window Contact, you can program the Bosch Smart Home system to automatically sound the alarm on the Twinguard smoke detectors to scare off the burglar.
This is not just a smoke detector, but rather an integrated system that offers so many options to customise your smart home. I like to set the mood with atmospheric lights in the evening before I go to bed (and candles too, good thing I have a smoke detector), so I’m thinking to install a Philips Hue light in one of my bedroom lamps that shows me a color according to the air quality. If it’s red I know I would have to change something in my bedroom to ensure optimal sleeping conditions. Wouldn’t this be cool ?
