This beautiful Swedish apartment has been decorated in modest tones and black accent pieces in the living room and kitchen for a calm and soothing effect throughout the space.
The bedroom has been painted in a dark blue wall color that adds a lot of depth to the interior, yet the real eye-catcher in this space is the DIY desk idea that fills the area by the window in the bedroom. I think this DIY plywood desk might easily be one of my favorite DIY desk ideas I have seen so far.
Two-tone walls and a grey velvet sofa in the living room
The living space has been painted in two different wall colors: white on the wall behind the sofa and on the ceiling, combined with a subtle light grey on the other walls. The grey velvet sofa and the dark grey curtains add a few dark touches to the space, which are lightened up by the light grey area rug, light throw pillows, and the white furniture pieces.
The vintage black leather armchair and the black wall lamp add a lot of contrast to the look, while the beige and grey art pieces add a subtle touch to the light grey paint on the wall.
Light grey walls and black bentwood chairs in the kitchen
The kitchen is another DIY project in the space it seems, as the outdated Ikea cabinets have been given another coat of paint and updated handles. The kitchen walls have been painted in a light and warm grey tone, which matches nicely with the light grey wall shelves above the kitchen.
The light natural wood dining table combined with black bentwood chairs on a hemp rug finishes off the kitchen look and adds a bit of contrast to the grey color palette in the space.

Blue bedroom with gold accents
While the rest of the interior features blacks, greys, and beiges in a modest color palette, in the bedroom the owners of this beautiful apartment went for a bolder color choice on the walls.
The dark blue wall color adds a lot of character to the bedroom and is contrasted perfectly with the crisp white bedding on the bed. The gold wall lamps stand out nicely against the beautiful blue backdrop and add an elegant touch to the interior design of the bedroom.
A DIY floating desk painted in the same color as the wall
This is one of those easy DIY desk ideas that just really transform the bedroom space. A small and simple desk has been created out of a simple wood board (though you can use reclaimed wood as well) that is shaped so it fits the corner by the window. This DIY desk is curved on the side for an organic look that doesn’t obstruct the view out of the window.
The DIY desk is complemented with floating shelves to display a selection of notebooks and art pieces that fit this small space perfectly. Both the DIY desk and the shelves have been painted in the same color as the wall for a beautiful tone-on-tone effect.
I think it’s a great idea to fill a small niche space with a custom DIY floating desk solution and turn otherwise lost floor space into a functional desk space. Like this, you can create your own desk design that fits the space exactly and you will end up with a desk design that beats any ready-made model out there.
Since the wooden board has a lot of touch points on the wall, the desk area could be attached using shelf brackets on different sides. In case you only have one or two walls to attach to your DIY corner desk, you can always work with one or two hairpin legs or other sturdy legs to keep the design stable without having to spend too much money.
