Norwegian design company Ask og Eng was founded by Kine Ask Stenersen and Kristoffer Eng in 2016 after having built several sustainable kitchens and furniture for themselves over a number of years. Since then, they continued growing and their bamboo kitchens and storage solutions have found a place into many stylish looking homes.
Their latest project is a newly built home in Ålesund, Norway, where they designed a kitchen, wardrobe, laundry and bathroom, all made out of bamboo, their signature material. They choose bamboo as the main material because of its high quality and durability and it’s also a sustainable choice since it grows way faster then trees (up to a meter a day). This means that the bamboo is ready to be harvested after 4-6 years – in comparison to trees that use about 50 years.
I think the different bamboo textures are paired up perfectly with the wood and concrete surfaces of this new built home and this home is a prime example of what can be achieved with creative, custom design.
