Living in an attic home or loft apartment has so many benefits: no upstairs neighbors, a killer view, and lots of daylight just to name a few. However, unless you are living in a luxurious penthouse, often these apartments are placed underneath a sloped roof, which makes it considerably more of a challenge to decorate the loft interior.
This beautiful Swedish attic apartment shows how you can decorate with these little nooks, crannies, and low ceiling heights without sacrificing style.
A spacious living room with lots of seating
The main focal point of the living room is the grey corduroy sofa, which has been decorated with a selection of throw pillows in orange, grey, and terracotta colors. The couch is strategically placed in the location with the most ceiling height and a sizeable textural area rug lightens up the hardwood flooring of the apartment. The glass Gubi Pedrera coffee table is a great choice for this interior as it doesn’t obstruct the open view you have in this large living room.
In the space underneath the attic windows, where the ceiling is a little lower, a daybed has been placed. Since this is a spot where you would typically lie down, you would not be bothered by the lower ceilings in this spot. A wall lamp is a great choice for this corner since it can be placed independently of how sloped the ceilings are.
On the other side of the living room, you can find a beautiful vintage black leather lounge chair combined with black metal shelving (It’s two Ikea Vittsjö TV shelves combined next to each other) with a classic Louis Poulsen Panthella table lamp and a combination of natural tones in the accessories and art prints.
A black kitchen optimized for the available space
Designing the kitchen layout is probably the most challenging in an apartment with sloped ceilings, yet if you do have some areas where the ceilings are higger, this is definitely where you should place the majority of the kitchen. The fridge and one taller storage module have been placed by the wall with the tallest ceilings, while the lower kitchen components are placed underneath the sloped roof.
The black kitchen cabinets contrast nicely with the white stone countertops and the white walls of the apartment and the mostly lower kitchen layout ensures a light look which is so beneficial for an awkward layout like this one.
The beautiful round wood dining table combined with the CH24 wishbone chairs works wonderfully in the space by the window and a Ferm Living plant box is placed by the window, which is an otherwise dead space that can’t really be used for many other functionalities.
A bedroom with a built-in wardrobe and reading nook
Just like the other rooms in this apartment, the bedroom has sloped ceilings as well, yet in this case, they are used for a custom-built wardrobe that has the same cabinet fronts as the black kitchen.
The area by the window next to the wardrobe has been transformed into a cozy reading nook: a perfect allocation of functionality for an otherwise difficult-to-use nook.
Optimized hallway storage on a small surface
When you live in an apartment with an awkward layout, you have to embrace all possible storage opportunities and that’s exactly what has been done in the rather small hallway of this place. A large mirror combined with a low shelf and a wall system for jackets behind a linen curtain in a niche offers great extra storage space for jackets and shoes.
