Norm Architects recently carried out the renovation of a modernist family home outside of Copenhagen with a focus on highlighting the modernist qualities of the architecture, while also bringing in clean lines and natural materials resulting in a calm and minimalist refuge to escape everyday life.
The original building combined stucco with clean lines, not committing entirely to modernism and resulting in a directionless mix of styles. Norm Architects decided to remove the stucco to bring out the streamlined qualities of the structure and to ultimately highlight its minimalistic qualities.
A minimal living room looking out over the lake
The true focal point of the living room, and of the entire house for that matter, is definitely the custom-built daybed by the large window looking out over the lake. The daybed covers the whole width of the wall behind the window, adding such a clean line to this living room.
On the other side of the room, a fireplace has been fitted with a large marble floating shelf, which has only a few design elements on top and really draws attention towards the fireplace itself, which takes a less prominent space inside the wall.
A minimal oak kitchen with an impressive dark marble kitchen island
The kitchen fits the space very well with its minimal appearance. The oak wood cabinet fronts combined with the tick wood countertops and a layout that’s solely focused on bottom cabinets add a simple aesthetic to the space that is enhanced with the impressive dark marble kitchen island combined with elegant bar stools.
Marble and oak in the bathrooms
The bathrooms in this house are a true showcase of luxurious minimalism. The dark marble sink has been built into two oak cabinets for a framed look combined with black hardware and an XL round mirror. The grey marble comes back in the other bathroom areas as well for a dark and minimal, yet cohesive look.
