14 Exposed Brick Bedroom Ideas for a Subtle Industrial Style

post

Industrial design undoubtedly evokes a unique look, but it might not be for everyone. Utilizing exposed brick as a bedroom feature can transform this space into one with the perfect splash of industrial chic.

Bricks can be a great use of material that’ll help give your home an urban vibe. Exposing only a section of the brick in the bedroom may be the way to go if you’re looking for a more subtle and modern bedroom design.

If you’re looking for fresh and modern home design concepts, check out the exposed brick bedroom ideas in the list below to give your sleeping space the perfect dose of subtle industrial style. With the right design, you can easily add a dynamic element to your bedroom without making too many drastic changes.

Use Just One Part of the Exposed Brick Wall

Your entire bedroom doesn’t have to be comprised of an exposed brick wall. In this space, only a small section of the drywall was cut out to expose the brick underneath. This makes the space feel warm and cozy while adding the perfect amount of barely-there industrial design.

Soft neutral colors on the wall and understated hues like beige on the bedding and headboard prevent it from becoming too dark and brooding. The white pendant lamp and the two white table lamps decorating the bedside tables stand out powerfully against the brick wall texture.

Incorporate Color

This modern bedroom has a brick wall on one side, while the other is painted a deep, dark blue. The use of color draws the eye toward the opposite side of the room and gives it a bold two-toned look.

A large window lets the natural light flow into the room, and artwork and accessories round out the design to bring it a pop of the homeowner’s personality. Painting the ceiling gives the space a lighter look overall as it balances out the dark tones.

Create a Bohemian Retreat

A large brick wall doesn’t have to represent industrial design alone. The whitewashed brick wall in this space gives it a light, earthy vibe.

Natural and breezy textiles on the bedding, curtains, and area rug along with the paper light fixture and light brown wood floors tie everything together, creating a laid-back boho-chic retreat with a touch of rustic style that makes it a perfect place for relaxing at the end of a long day.

Break Up the Bedroom with a Separate Wall

This unique bedroom design features a separate retaining wall with a large interior window that visually breaks up the space. You can still see the exposed brick wall behind it, so everything flows and remains cohesive.

The wooden beams were painted black to match the window frame color, which helps to give the room a classic industrial feel. Other black accents and a dark wood floor tie the entire theme together.

Paint Brick to Lighten Things Up

Instead of leaving a dark brick wall as-is, the designer here chose to paint the walls white. Not only does this make the space look and feel larger, but it also gives it a charming, calming aesthetic.

The use of white walls rather than raw brick transforms this space into a romantic bedroom accented with cozy linens and a light brown wood floor. If you want a more sanitized look, white is an excellent choice, but you can paint the brick in bright colors, too.

Make it Eclectic

Although there is a section of exposed brick wall here, it doesn’t have the typical look you see in industrial spaces. A large framed glass window serves as a room divider to help the room feel more open, and a mixture of styles makes this space the true definition of an eclectic bedroom.

The use of live houseplants, clear acrylic accent tables, playful patterns on textiles, and modern furniture work well together which gives the bedroom a fun, funky feel infused with personality.

Use Brick to Create Cozy Bedrooms

Brick can add a warm, inviting element to any room like the one shown in this design. Although the walls on either side of the bed are made of drywall, the exposed brick at the end of the room gives it a subtle, cozy touch.

Since the brick wall is at the far end of the room, it immediately becomes the focal point. A tall bookcase against the wall and a nightstand on either side of the bed topped with table lamps give this small bedroom a ton of functionality, too. White walls and ceilings give it a fresh, clean feel that makes the exposed brick wall stand out even better.

Blend Brick with Other Materials for a True Industrial Style

This contemporary bedroom boasts two different materials on the wall: brick and limewash. Using just a sliver of exposed brick next to the dark gray limewash wall instantly makes it look industrial.

Not every brick wall bedroom has to feature brick alone. Using these two materials next to each other is a great way to add more texture and interest. If you don’t want to use grey limewash, you can work with other tones for a similar contrast.

Make Brick Walls a Work of Art

In this bedroom, pieces of the drywall were strategically “ripped” away to show the exposed brick underneath. Not only does this add visual interest to the room, but it also gives it a splash of bold artistic flair.

The designer chose to leave some of the drywall on the opposite side of the window. This technique helps the two materials work together to create contrast, while the ragged edges that expose the brick wall bring it a dynamic finishing touch.

via Alvhem

Place the Bed on the Opposite Side of the Brick Wall

Most people tend to place the bed directly against the exposed brick wall, but here, the designer chose to do the opposite. Putting the bed against the drywall completely changes the look of the space.

The owners of this home also added a single hook to the brick wall side, providing a convenient place to hang a piece of clothing, a cozy robe, towels, or even art and decor. Since this bedroom is fairly small, mounting large mirrors on the wall is a smart and easy way to make it feel more open and spacious.

Exposed Brick Walls Can Create a Cozy Cave

In this studio apartment bedroom, the only area with exposed brick walls is the small cubby area cut out to create a cozy place for the bed. This is an excellent option if you have an open floor plan like the one shown here.

The use of brick delineates the difference between the sleeping area and the rest of the home, and it also helps if you’re into eclectic designs that incorporate a mixture of materials, colors, textures, and styles. Using more understated hues on the walls softens up the brick and helps it to fit in the space rather than take away from it.

Keep Exposed Brick in Attic Bedrooms

This awesome attic bedroom has it all, including a large skylight, wooden beams, and a large brick wall. Instead of covering the brick, the homeowner opted to leave it alone. The white floor helps to keep this cozy bedroom feeling a bit more open and airy.

Although drywall was used here, a shiplap ceiling could also give it a cozy, intimate vibe. Adding a large mirror above the dresser or on the wall in small spaces like this one helps to reflect the light, which also gives it a much brighter and more open feel.

Incorporate More Understated Hues

Sometimes, a brick wall bedroom can end up feeling much too dark and dreary. By using light colors or basic white on the walls, you can design a space that feels much more soothing and inviting.

Wooden furniture and a tall tree in the corner bring this cozy bedroom a feeling of natural warmth that doesn’t take too much away from the brick as the main feature. Since the section of the brick wall is so large, you could also add a gallery wall here to incorporate some of your favorite personal pieces.

Add a White Trim to your Exposed Brick Walls for a Clean Effect

The white trim below the ceiling and the baseboards on top of the light hardwood floor in this bedroom give the rustic texture of the exposed brick a clean and elegant look. The mixture of beige and terracotta textiles on and around the bed accentuates the deep red tones in the brick and gives the space a cohesive look.

These beautiful spaces showcase just why this luscious color is a perfect choice to create a subtle and cool effect that makes any kitchen look and feel fresh and more vibrant.

Add Darker Hardware to Make Blue Cabinets Pop

These slate blue cabinets do a great job of making this kitchen look airy and fresh. Adding black and silver hardware to the cabinets and drawers makes the beautiful blue hue on the cabinets stand out even more.

A large black range hood also helps to tie it all together, creating a modern kitchen design with a perfect splash of blue. The white marble countertops and the chrome tab add a modern look and feel to this fresh kitchen space.

Use Blue to Liven up a Small Space

Although this space is a small galley-style kitchen, the pastel blue cabinets help to give it a light, airy feel. Rather than choosing a darker shade like navy blue cabinets, these light blue cabinets do wonders to bring the kitchen a brighter and more open vibe.

White marble countertops and white wall paint also help to make it feel much larger while complementing the lighter tone of the hardwood floors. The blue porcelain pieces on the open shelving underneath the window complement the blue cabinets perfectly.

Pastel Blue Creates a Retro Feel

Different shades of blue, like the pale blue cabinets shown here, can help to give a kitchen of any age a charming retro-inspired feel. Simple white counters and a white farmhouse sink make this cooking space design a timeless choice.

Although this is a small kitchen, the gold hardware and ultra-light blue kitchen cabinetry make it look cheery and playful with a vintage twist.

Incorporate Blue with Gray Undertones

While these cabinets are a beautiful shade of blue, they have subtle undertones of gray for a modern effect. Sleek silver drawer pulls and cabinet handles elevate the look of this stylish kitchen renovation.

Stainless steel appliances and white countertops with a bit of marbled gray tie everything together beautifully. Note that the upper light blue kitchen cabinets are a few shades lighter than the lower ones for a subtle two-toned effect.

Design a Blue Kitchen for a Stunning Statement

The light blue cabinetry in this kitchen goes from ceiling to floor, helping the design exude a bold, dramatic statement. Splashes of white from the pendant lights and table blend well with the marbled countertops and backsplash.

Although this kitchen has light brown wood floors, the baseboards are also painted the same shade of blue for a beautiful cohesive look.

Incorporate Different Shades of Blue

This gorgeous blue kitchen design proves you can incorporate blue cabinets without sacrificing modern style. The wall color is a lighter blue than the cabinets, and the kitchen island is painted in a deep, dark shade of teal.

Combining varying shades of blue in this space helps each component pair beautifully together, producing a multidimensional look with a distinctively modern aesthetic.

Add Blue to Different Elements

The sky blue color in this kitchen helps it to evoke a cheerful, lighthearted look. Not only did the designer add blue kitchen cabinets and shelves, but they also chose blue for the charming subway tile backsplash.

Light blue always goes well with bolder, contrasting dark colors like black as you can see here on the countertop, sink faucet, and hardware.

Gold and Blue: The Perfect Combo

The gold accents in this kitchen go beautifully with the light blue cabinets, although gold also looks stunning with all shades of blue cabinets as well. The use of metallic gold hardware helps it stand out dramatically against the light blue kitchen cabinets in this space.

Subtle, natural elements like the wood herringbone floors and medium brown wood mid-century modern dining furniture ground the space to help keep it from looking too glam. The height of the kitchen cabinetry makes the implementation of the light blues even more impressive.

Use Light Blue Cabinets as an Accent Only

For this design, only one section of the kitchen cabinets is painted blue for a delightfully sweet shade-inspired touch. A high-end oven and luxurious quartz countertops lend this cooking space a luxe, refined look.

Oversized dental molding in the kitchen adds drama, while a simple wall shelf replaces upper cabinets to help keep the kitchen open and airy.

Blend Blue Into Different Rooms

Navy blue walls in the adjoining room lead the way into this gorgeous kitchen boasting a slightly lighter shade of blue cabinets for a fun, two-toned effect. Blending two different blue shades creates a cohesive color story and gives this home a seamless transition from one room to the next.

Large windows invite lots of natural light into this home, and the gorgeous whitewashed wood floors and white backsplash keep everything light and bright.

Add Blue Cabinetry to Ground a Room

This room design is more like a casual bar area than a formal kitchen, but the beautiful blue cabinetry looks stunning against the neutral wall. Although there’s plenty of tan and brown in this design, adding a bolt of blue makes it feel modern and fresh.

A tall fiddle leaf fern in the corner is a nice touch that incorporates a natural element into the space, and a trio of modern wall sconce lights brings the modern design together. The countertop has the same color as the blue kitchen cabinets for a tone-on-tone look.

Mix and Match Cabinet Colors

While the lower cabinets in this kitchen are a beautiful shade of blue, the upper cabinets are featured in a warm, natural wood tone. This design demonstrates that a kitchen with blue cabinets doesn’t have to encompass all of them.

Using bright red for the pendant light and accent table helps to make this two-toned kitchen pop for a fun, modern touch.

Paint Cabinets Blue for a Fresh Yet Timeless Look

Painting your kitchen cabinets blue is an easy way to turn an all-white kitchen into a fresh, modern space while leaving some timeless elements intact. The stainless steel oven works well with the brushed silver moon-shaped drawer pills and small silver cabinet knobs for a sense of cohesion.

White trim, molding, and flooring keep everything light, which works well in both large and small spaces alike.

Add a Bold Color to Make Blue Cabinets Pop

Although the walls and cabinets are a beautiful light blue color, the addition of a lively green on accents gives this kitchen a fun, dramatic effect. The arched door trim and support post feature a funky green hue that helps the light blue cabinets stand out in the space.

Open shelving creates a place for easy storage and display, and the homeowner chose colorful accessories to tie the fun, playful, and colorful design together.

Keep the Wall Color Neutral

A butterscotch-colored wall provides a versatile, neutral background for the vibrant blue kitchen cabinets in this room. Flat panel cabinets help to prevent the space from feeling too overdone.

16 Pink living room ideas for a subtle warm glow

post

Pink can be a challenging color in interior design, but this warm hue creates a pleasing color palette that also creates amazing interior design opportunities. If you’re thinking of changing the color of your entire living room, pink can be an eye-catching option. This subtle hue provides endless possibilities in a living area thanks to its versatility.

With so many options available, it’s easy to discover the perfect shade to give your living room a subtle warm glow. If you need some inspiration, have a look at the pink living room ideas in the list below that will give your home a fresh, new look and a warm, inviting ambiance.

Try Blush Pink to Create a New Take on Neutral

While blush pink is on the “girly” side, it also has some earthy tones that help to give it a more natural effect. Use color to give your pink living room a cheerful yet practical look that goes with just about anything. Mix pink with wood furniture to create a sophisticated look.

Note how the white sofa boasts a muted beige upholstery so it doesn’t take away from the beautiful pink walls. The wall art features some pops of pink and a bit of blue to tie everything together. A rattan light fixture adds to the overall warmth of the space.

Try Muted Pink Instead of White or Gray

This pink living room features a muted shade that doesn’t overpower the rest of the space. Thanks to its soft tone, it allows the other items in the room to stand out. The designer incorporated some touches of black in this space to give it a boost of modern style.

Because of the ultra-light shade of pink used here, the wall color makes it easier for the homeowner to decorate with a wide range of accessories and patterns. The gray sofa evokes a relaxed vibe, and the round wood table in a natural shade of brown grounds the space and creates a functional focal point.

Pair Peach Pink Living Room Walls with a Red and Brown Colour palette

This subtle and warm living room has a touch of peachy-pink on the walls, which pairs wonderfully with the white couch and the caramel brown area rug. Using earth tones in the textiles adds a grounding effect to the interior, which is otherwise very light and feminine.

Make Dusty Pink the Backdrop

The gorgeous dusky pink wall color here adds a subtle pop of color to the room while creating a blank canvas for other items in the room. Large decorative accessories on the wall and accent tables stand out in this space. The dark grey sofa really pops, and the metallic and frosted glass globe light fixtures lend this living area a contemporary aesthetic.

The design this homeowner chose proves how easy decorating with a variety of different accessories and styles is. Instead of sugary sweet, the pink tone here has more of an earthy terracotta hue to it.

Painting walls this color lets decor and other soft furnishings make a powerful statement, allowing the walls to become the backdrop.

Rose Pink Adds a Playful Pop

Note how other furniture pieces bring more functionality to the space like the black metal coat rack and the brown and black coffee table.

A trio of picture frames on the wall contains modern artwork for a touch of personality. The jute area rug brings a sense of serenity and perfect harmony. Meanwhile, the choice of pink in this room gives everything a lighthearted, playful feel that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Try Powder Pink in a Modern Living Space

Pale pink isn’t just for little girls’ bedrooms. In this modern pink living room, the shade is perfectly paired with the furniture, art, and accents to help them stand out. A soft tan upholstered loveseat topped with cushy throw pillows and a soft throw blanket makes the space even more inviting.

The black side table and coffee table bring a dramatic effect to this living room. A large window adds loads of natural sunlight to give the room a bright, airy vibe. Note how the modern metal mushroom table lamp and bold wall art lend this living room a stylish finishing touch that’s perfect for contemporary living spaces.

Try Pink Wainscoting to Add Character

Instead of painting all four walls pink, this designer painted the living room wainscoting pink which adds a lively, two-toned look and a fresh, fun aesthetic. The ultra-modern mid-century inspired ceiling fixture and bits of blue become a dramatic focal point in this updated living area.

The bright blue accent chair really pops in this room, while a mixture of shapes of the smaller furniture pieces ties the modern theme together nicely. This design proves that not all pink living rooms have to be completely pink. Rather, choosing to pair pink with another color adds a fun and funky two-toned look.

Make it Monochrome

The warm tone on the walls of this pink living room gives it an inviting touch and pink furniture helps to create a uniform, cohesive feel. A mixture of textures also gives the room a comfy, cozy vibe, including the faux fur shag area rug and curvaceous swag light. The furniture isn’t the same shade of pink as the walls, but instead, it’s slightly brighter so it doesn’t get washed out or fade into the background.

A large tan-colored curtain makes it easy to cover the window whenever you need shade and privacy while adding a bit of definition between the sections of the wall. The oversized framed art is the only item on the walls, drawing the eye toward it.

Be Daring with a Brighter Shade

While the paint here isn’t exactly hot pink or fuchsia, it’s brighter and bolder than some other options on the color wheel. The designer used a rich color scheme that makes this open-concept house feel welcoming. White window trim, a white subway tile backsplash in the kitchen area, and distressed white wood floors help to break up the space.

If the walls of this room were all-white, tan, or gray, it wouldn’t look or feel nearly as inviting. Steer clear of using bland paint colors in smaller homes or open-concept living areas, since it can make everything feel clinical. Painting this room a lively, bold shade of pink and adding fun accent pieces beckons you to come inside.

Keep it Simple

While this living room appears to be fairly large, the designer chose to keep things simple and understated. The powdery pink walls add a warm glow to the room. Instead of creating a gallery wall, they chose to hang just a few select pieces above the sofa.

This design proves that pink is a good color to use with modern designs. The velvet club chair is a much deeper, darker color, yet it still pairs beautifully with the pink. Pops of white help to make the pink walls stand out.

Go Glam with Lipstick Pink

This shade of pink has a glamorous aesthetic due to its deep, rich tone. Neutral furniture and black fixtures create a multidimensional room. A bold statement like sculptural vases, faux fur bench covers, and plants make this open-concept home an earthy delight.

Richer tones like this one are perfect if you love pink, but don’t want anything too bright or overpowering. Using this bold color with the white floors and white ceiling creates a nice delineation between the two.

Keep it Classic with a Neutral Pink

If you love the idea of a pink living room but want to keep your design style classic, try the shade in a soft, neutral tone. This color adds versatility to all types of design styles. Integrate other colors or add a playful pattern with art or furniture upholstery to make your living room more interesting.

The designer chose a powder pink hue that blends beautifully with pops of blue and other earthy tones in the room. You’ll find that lighter pink tones are your best friend if you’re looking for a style that can easily be changed whenever you want to update the room.

Pink Living Room Ideas: Mix and Match Motifs

No rule says your living room has to be all one style. Change things up by adding a variety of motifs together. For example, this living room integrates modern components like a pink velvet sofa, while the gold framed mirror brings it a traditional touch.

You don’t need to paint a pink ceiling to get the message across. A chic chandelier and a variety of plants give this room a lively element. Different throw blankets and pillows also add tons of texture.

Pale Pink Makes Everything Pop

Pale pink walls allow everything else in this pink living room to stand out. Instead of hot pink accents, the designer chose to make black the standout hue. Details like the large white fireplace column and white ceiling trim remain as-is so they aren’t washed out.

Pink living room ideas don’t have to be overdone. Pick out the lightest pink possible to allow the other components in the room to pop. Simple furniture also keeps the eyes on the main focal points, which are the chandelier and fireplace.

Paint the Walls and Ceiling Pink

Dusky pink walls and a darker pink ceiling make this spot a pink lover’s dream. The purple sofa and dark purple side table also add a playful element. The absence of wall decor allows the color to shine.

The decor is kept to a minimum, focusing on the area rug and accent pillows, which both feature hints of blue. Overall, it makes for a wonderful, relaxing space. The sulking room pink color on the walls creates a nice contrast with the darker pink painted ceiling.

Paint Just the Ceiling

If you need more pink living room ideas, why not just paint the ceiling pink? Instead of pink walls, this living room uses pink on the ceiling, keeping the walls a traditional white color. Two large windows add lots of natural light.

Choosing a pink ceiling creates a whole new take on a standard pink living room. It also makes it easier to add a variety of furniture styles, decor, and other elements regardless of the color of the walls, since white is versatile by nature.

16 Galley kitchen ideas that are both practical and stylish

post

A galley kitchen layout is planned out in rows of cabinetry and appliances placed on opposite walls of a narrow space. A galley kitchen layout makes it easy to grab what you need while you prepare a delicious meal since everything is within arm’s reach. However, some homeowners find this kitchen style confining and challenging to navigate due to limited square footage.

In the list below, you can find the most creative galley kitchen ideas that are both practical and stylish at the same time. You don’t need to sacrifice style if you have a galley kitchen. Read on to discover some inspirational design ideas that will get you excited about creating an original kitchen refresh of your own.

Take Advantage of Natural Light

Since galley kitchens have smaller footprints, this designer left the window at the end wall open, allowing the sunlight to pour in. The absence of curtains or blinds encourages natural light to flow into the room, giving the illusion of a larger space.

A large window like this one is typically enough to provide ample lighting during the day. Despite its narrow layout, this beautiful galley kitchen feels big, open, and airy thanks to the design. Note how the wall closest to the window doesn’t have cabinets, helping the space feel less cramped.

The open shelving is attached right above the kitchen backsplash and its location right next to the window makes it ideal for a green plant.

Integrate Open Shelving

Open shelving adds storage while helping galley kitchens look roomier. However, there are still kitchen cabinets on one wall, offering plenty of hidden storage for cooking essentials in this sage green kitchen.

The use of a beautiful green color helps this kitchen feel light and bright. Regardless of its galley layout, the space looks functional and beautiful all in one. This design proves that even in small spaces, you can still enjoy lots of functionality.

Not that the cabinetry on the left side starts more narrow, to give this galley kitchen a more spacious look and feel. The open shelving is painted in the same color as the kitchen cabinets for a beautiful effect against the limewash walls.

Maximize the Use of a Narrow Space

Despite this being a narrow galley kitchen, there’s still enough room to cook and eat. At the end of the room is an extension of the counter that creates a bar top along with stools for a nice breakfast nook which gives this galley kitchen two functions in one.

A plethora of countertops provide lots of surface area so the homeowner can prep, cook, and eat without running out of room. Even though this is a small galley kitchen, there’s ample space to do everything you need here without feeling cramped.

The upper cabinets don’t continue up to the ceiling, making the space feel larger and allowing the white ceilings to bounce light back into the small space.

Use Neutral Tones for Versatility

When brainstorming galley kitchen ideas, using the right colors will make a big impact. This interior designer opted for butcher block countertops and a soft color palette to make the kitchen feel larger. White walls, floors, and upper cabinets help to give it an airy feel.

Thanks to the open floor plan in this home, the galley kitchen opens to another room with a dining table and chairs, adding to the functionality. A beautiful rose pink color on the wall helps to separate the two spaces, even though they’re technically connected.

The wood tone of the butcher block countertops comes back in the small glass cabinet on the wall, which is a nice and elegant touch. Even though the kitchen doesn’t get any direct natural light, by selecting a light floor and white cabinetry, the galley kitchen still looks light and bright.

Use Built-Ins for Extra Storage

This small galley kitchen has a distinctively modern style thanks to the use of bold colors and contemporary finishes. The navy blue pantry and cabinets and the white built-ins on the opposite wall offer loads of extra storage for everything from plates and cookware to spices.

The design here proves that you don’t need to have an all-white kitchen to enjoy a functional space. An open floor plan offers enough room for a separate eating area. It also helps to make a tight space feel much more open.

Add a Feature Wall

Bold patterned kitchen wallpaper on a feature wall draws the eye toward this modern galley kitchen. A white backsplash with subway tile adds to the high-end aesthetic. Many galley kitchens have a plain, basic design, but not here.

Dark base cabinets ground the room, while modern hardware and solid surface marble countertops give it a luxe vibe. Integrating lots of greenery on an assortment of open shelves makes this galley kitchen feel cozy yet contemporary for an eye-catching finishing touch.

Keep it Light

White can make a small space feel larger and this galley kitchen design uses white combined with a very muted sage green to do just that. Under cabinet lighting adds functionality and a warm glow for cooking and entertaining.

A transom window that likely opens to a living area brings a visually elongating effect to this chic galley kitchen. Even with small layouts, this design shows you can still enjoy a versatile space while maintaining a sense of style.

The side of the galley kitchen cabinetry has a light wood built-in shelf that offers a small storage module next to the dining area.

Make it Minimalist

Simple kitchen designs are often the most effective. This ultra-modern galley kitchen features flat panel cabinets to reduce the appearance of visual clutter. An extra lower cabinet on the end doubles as a comfy seat, adding even more versatility to this modern space.

Since the colors are similar for the cabinets and counters, it creates a cohesive look. Rather than opting for classic white cabinets, the designer chose a subtle, earthy color instead.

Combine a Variety of Materials to Add Texture

Even if you have a galley kitchen, it doesn’t have to be boring. In this design, a blend of different materials creates a visual feast and a nice juxtaposition between natural and modern elements. Wood countertops on one side play beautifully with the higher-end marble countertops on the other.

The tile backsplash on one side distinguishes the two walls, and the other is simply painted white. High ceilings also give the illusion of a much larger space. There’s also plenty of counter space for small appliances and other kitchen must-haves.

Add Personal Touches to Make a Galley Kitchen Unique

This chic galley kitchen boasts an ultra-modern vibe with a unique gallery wall for a pop of personality. Utilizing the plain wall at one end for artwork allows the homeowner to showcase their personal collection, giving it a one-of-a-kind look.

Stainless steel appliances and shades of gray also help to make this galley kitchen appear more modern. Industrial-inspired statement lighting above the sink adds functionality and a fresh, contemporary touch.

Take Advantage of Windows

Even with minimal floor space, you can still maximize your galley kitchen’s functionality. For example, the large window in this kitchen makes a perfect area for a dining table and chairs which transforms the space into an eat-in galley kitchen.

The more things you can do in the kitchen, the more you can maximize any available space. White is the base color in this room, while the black dining chairs and light wood decor bring a fun and creative element. If you want to spice things up, you could easily replace the existing rug with a colorful runner for a playful pop.

Keep Things Simple

Although this galley kitchen is larger than most, the interior designer chose to keep things simple. A large arched window allows the light to bounce off reflective surfaces like the white floors.

Brass hardware for the sink brings this kitchen a fun, sleek component as well as the wall shelving on the opposite side. This design demonstrates that you can add other things to your kitchen including decorative accessories and wall art without being excessive.

Hide Items Out of View

A large pantry on one end of this galley kitchen and lots of lower cabinets give the homeowner tons of storage. Instead of placing small appliances on top of the counters, they’ve chosen to keep them hidden from view until they’re needed.

Cutting out clutter makes even the most narrow galley kitchen look roomy. The taller upper cabinets on the pantry help maximize vertical space to provide even more convenient storage for coffee mugs, dinner plates, and other important dining essentials.

Be Smart with Your Layout

if your kitchen is long and narrow, one of the best galley kitchen ideas is to design a smart, efficient layout. Here, one end of the counters has been cut short, adding more space for a small table and chairs instead.

By “chopping up” the layout, it gives this galley kitchen extra room to enjoy eating breakfast and other meals. Large lower cabinets and deep drawers also help to maximize space for the storage of bulky items like pots and pans.

Install Task Lighting in a Narrow Galley kitchen

This kitchen has a challenging layout, so the designer opted to implement extra task lighting. By installing some lighting above the sink and a section of the countertops, the kitchen is much brighter, especially at night when no light is coming from the window.

The more lighting you have in a room, the larger it will feel. This is especially important in a small galley kitchen since you’ll need to be able to see what you’re doing while you cook.

Make it Elegant

Galley kitchen ideas can be as elegant and dramatic as you like. In this kitchen, the homeowner chose a beautiful white farmhouse sink and marble countertops.

Black cabinets and a black hood fan bring drama to this small yet sweet cooking space. Glass doors on some of the upper cabinets also help to make the space look and feel a bit larger.

A studio apartment with a loft bed built on top of a home office

post

This gorgeous studio apartment for sale in Sweden (Styled by Linnéa H. Manaberi, photographed by Peter Pousard, via Alvhem) makes efficient use of the high ceilings, by integrating a loft bed inside the space that can be accessed through the custom staircase in the sofa area.

The loft bed sits on top of a home office space and the module separates the open floor plan into five main areas: a sofa section, dining area, kitchen corner, home office, and sleeping area. The visual distinction between the different areas is clear, optimizing the layout of this studio flat.

The black-and-white color palette in the apartment is enriched with brown and beige tones for a bright aesthetic that makes the apartment look more spacious.

18 Brick backsplash ideas to add a rustic touch to your kitchen

post

Brick is a durable, versatile material that adds a rustic component to any space. If you’re considering a kitchen remodel, installing a brick backsplash is a great way to give your cooking space a warm, cozy aesthetic. Not only is brick very versatile, but it also adds tons of rustic charm.

If you need some design inspiration, have a look at the list below, with amazing brick backsplash ideas that will add a rustic touch to your kitchen.

Use Brick to Create a Bold Feature Wall

In this kitchen, the brick covers the entire surface of the back wall. Instead of just using some brick to create a small backsplash, this design incorporates it all over the wall’s surface. The warm tones of the brick pair beautifully with the deep green color of the cabinets and the black quartz countertops.

Note how a few wooden floating shelves are added to the brick wall, adding visual interest and breaking up the wall while also giving this kitchen a ton of rustic charm. If you have empty wall space behind your stove and sink, this all-over brick design could be a better option.

Note that the red brick backsplash behind the stove is protected by a stainless steel cover to avoid stains while cooking.

White-washed Brick Brings Farmhouse Appeal

Instead of installing standard red brick, this homeowner chose to paint the brick white. This design works well in a white kitchen, small kitchens, or in kitchens where you might prefer a clean, modern aesthetic. It also goes nicely with the white cabinet color, wood countertops, and stainless steel appliances.

Since this kitchen doesn’t have any upper cabinets, painting the brick white was a smart choice. Notice how the lower half features a white subway tile kitchen backsplash. The combination of textures and matching colors creates a subtle, sleek two-toned look.

Mix and Match Brick with Other Materials

Similar to the previous kitchen, this design incorporates brick and tile together, but it does so on two different walls. One side of the kitchen features a red brick backsplash behind the oven, while the other has a white subway tile backsplash behind the sink.

The mixture of these two materials helps to separate the space and gives it added depth and dimension. It also melds two kitchen styles together, since the brick creates more of a rustic look, while the tile adds more of a modern feel. The white cabinets help to make the space feel airy and open.

Use Dark Accents with Painted White Brick

This kitchen also features whitewashed brick for the backsplash, but it adds darker features for an elevated design. Black quartz countertops, a black oven, and a black hood range pop against the solid brick backsplash and wall. Installing white cabinets with black countertops carries the juxtaposition of the two stark colors through the entire design.

Potted plants in terra cotta vessels and wood cutting boards are strategically placed to give it an earthy, cozy vibe. This designer also chose to add wood floating shelves but they’re painted white to match the color of the brick behind them.

Keep an Original Solid Brick Backsplash for a Country Kitchen Feel

You can tell that all the brick in this room is original, which adds to its rustic, country-inspired look and feel. The brick remains in its natural state without any stain or paint added. Wood floating shelves and towel racks are also left in their raw, original form.

Blending natural wood and brick gives this room a warm, farmhouse-inspired aura. Black cabinets on the bottom pair beautifully with the butcher block countertops. Everything works harmoniously together here to give this kitchen a cozy, rustic look.

Blend Classic and Modern Materials

Stainless steel appliances, white cabinets, and gray countertops work well with the unique red brick backsplash in this kitchen. The home has an open floor plan that carries into the living room, where modern pieces of wall art create a chic, contemporary gallery wall.

Note how this red brick backsplash design is only in the kitchen, and the rest of the home has more traditional walls. The use of modern lighting highlights the contemporary elements in the space. If you don’t want to add whole pieces of brick to recreate this design, you can always install brick veneer.

Expose Only a Section of Brick for a Unique Look

Not all brick backsplashes have to cover the entire wall. In this home, white subway tiles make up most of the wall and backsplash, but a small section of original brick has been exposed. A small shelf was added to the brick area so wine bottles, spices, and flower vases could easily be placed on the shelf for a decorative touch.

Dark gray cabinets and marbled granite countertops give this kitchen a splash of modern appeal. The stainless steel hood fan also brings it a contemporary element. This design proves that you can have your dream kitchen without sacrificing on personal style.

Distressed Brick Creates an Eye-Catching Feature

Bricks cover the entire wall of this kitchen from the floor to the ceiling. The distressed look helps to make them appear worn and weathered, adding a rustic element to the space. A dark blue island and white flat panel cabinets give the room a bold, two-toned look.

Light wood floors work well with the color of the brick in this space. While the kitchen features a combination of old and new, everything just makes sense. The absence of upper cabinets also helps to highlight the brick while making the kitchen look and feel larger.

Original Brick Adds Rustic Appeal

You can tell this home is old based on the ceiling and the brick. The homeowner chose to leave the brick backsplash alone, but they added modern elements to make the space their own.

Light gray cabinets and a gray wood wall shelf look great against the black countertops. The designer installed brush brass hardware for a metallic pop. A white enamel farmhouse sink really ties the theme together cohesively.

Incorporate Playful Components

Here, the all-white brick backsplash and wall look nice alongside the subtle gray color of the cabinets and counters. However, the designer chose to use accents to bring different colors into the space. Pops of red, green, and pink give this kitchen a playful personality.

Placing various items on a countertop can instantly give any kitchen a unique touch. It’s also a lot easier to switch things out this way rather than doing a complete remodel. The glass globe light fixture also gives this kitchen a fun element.

The Brick Peeks Out for a Subtle Touch of Farmhouse Charm

This kitchen has a modern design, but the subtle pops of brick bring it a warm, cozy touch. Note how the kitchen has floor-to-ceiling cabinets but the red brick backsplash and small section of brick wall adds rustic texture. The color of the brick plays nicely with the dark brown wood countertops.

Long black metal cabinet handles also give this kitchen a modern touch. Stainless steel appliances bring it an updated element, while the light brown wood floors tie the rustic vibe together with modern functionality.

Stained Brick Creates Cohesiveness

This brick backsplash appears to be stained a dark honey color. The tone of the brick goes beautifully with the brass pendant light and cabinet hardware for a cohesive look.

Gray cabinets bring this kitchen a subtle modern touch. The white marble or granite countertops also elevate the space, while skylights bring this kitchen a plethora of natural light.

Play with Shapes on Top of your Red Brick Backsplash

The bricks and tiles work together in this kitchen to create a visual grid. Black grout also highlights the individual subway tiles.

Note that a metal wire pot rack on the wall also echoes the kitchen’s grid-like design. The L-shaped layout allowed the designer to mix a classic red brick backsplash with an updated tile one on the opposite wall.

Go Bold with Dramatic Color

This design took the idea of a traditional brick backsplash and made it fresh and modern. The brick is painted in a rich navy blue color, while the white wood ceiling helps make everything pop.

Gray wood herringbone floors give this kitchen a sense of sophistication. A simple glass globe pendant light above a black metal table and chairs add to the modern look.

Try Stone Instead of Brick

The use of large stone in this kitchen takes the concept of a brick backsplash to a new level. Individual shapes of the stone add to its rustic vibe.

Dark brown cabinets and tan solid surface countertops create a sense of warmth. The addition of farmhouse pendant lights and wood shelving with black brackets bring the space a plethora of rustic charm.

Use Brick to Highlight Other Features

This stunning kitchen features a large skylight and a gorgeous glass-framed door that leads to the outdoor area. Well-made dark gray cabinets bring this kitchen tons of functionality and storage.

Since the back wall is made entirely of light brick, it allows the cabinetry, finishes, and lighting to be the star of the show. Using brick in this manner is a great way to highlight the features of your kitchen you like the most.

Make Brick the Star and pair it with Stainless Steel Appliances

This interior design highlights the value of brick walls by making them the star of the show. Note how the brick goes all the way across the wall and on support columns.

Aside from the brick, every other element in this kitchen has a modern look and feel to it. From the white glass globe pendants to the black wall shelving and light gray cabinets, it has a warm, rustic charm while also allowing the modern design to shine through.
