A cozy natural color palette and lots of textures

post

This beautiful apartment with two bedrooms in Sweden (Styled by Emma Fisher and Annica Clarmell, photographed by Hendrik Linden, for sale at Alvhem) has a subtle light grey wall color throughout the floorplan, which makes the furniture and accessories stand out against the walls in a modest way.

The apartment has two bedrooms: one next to the living room, and a second one next to the kitchen. The decor of the living room is based around the white sofa and white area rug and finished off with black and brown accent pieces.

The bedrooms are decorated in a warm yet modest way, and the kitchen includes a vintage dining table that adds a lot of contrast and texture to the space.

The white living room couch is paired with a beautiful textured area rug in an off-white color. These white elements, along with the sheer white curtains in front of the window and the light grey living room walls, make for a perfect color palette from which the darker tones stand out.

The black coffee table, the mixture of textiles on the couch, and the green plant on the window sill all add a beautiful contrast to the living room decor.

A neutral bedroom with a burned orange comforter

The color palette of the main bedroom is rather neutral, with a light grey wall color paired with black bedside tables, a double black wall lamp, and a beautiful green branch by the window. It’s the burned orange comforter that is the main focal point in the space.

The vintage dining table transforms the look of the basic kitchen and adds a cozy area in front of the windows. The rough texture of the wooden table pairs nicely with the industrial touch of the metal chairs, while the careful selection of ceramics on the table and on the window sill add an elegant touch to the setting,

Just like in the rest of the interior of this apartment, the color palette is based around a natural base, with contrasting black elements in the textiles, lighting fixtures, and art prints, with a subtle touch of green brought on by the plants.

A white-painted vintage desk makes for a great home office section in the bedroom. The bedroom wall has a subtle wallpaper, which makes the beautiful objects on the desk and the peg rail on the wall stand out.

Off-white kitchen cabinets and a blue-grey bedroom ceiling

post

This beautiful two-bedroom apartment with a living kitchen (photographed by Henrik Linden, sold at Alvhem) has some beautiful historic features, including curved walls and lots of big windows that let in an abundance of natural light.

The living kitchen features off-white cabinets paired with a beautiful beige limestone countertop, finished off with chrome hardware and black accent bar stools by the kitchen island. The small dining and sofa areas complete this space beautifully and allow the integration of lounging, cooking, and eating right next to each other.

The guest bedroom has an eye-catching blue-grey ceiling corner, finished with a few colorful accents, while the minimal main bedroom has a built-in wardrobe with an integrated home office desk.

The elegant off-white kitchen cabinets stand out in a subtle way against the light grey walls in the living kitchen. The beige limestone countertops add a warm tone to the setting, while the chrome hardware adds a modern touch.

The small kitchen island is paired with two elegant black bar stools that add contrast to the setting. The island adds countertop space, yet it also provides a visual separation between the kitchen and the living area.

The hardware material also comes back on the Moccamaster coffee maker with chrome details and on the kitchen faucet, which is a nice touch.

The black metal and leather in the bar stools also come back in the impressive Drop chandelier from 101Cph and in the leather details of the dining chairs. The impressive fig tree by the window adds a fresh touch of green and the warm wood tones in the vintage dining room set add a warm element to this beautiful living kitchen.

The blue-grey ceiling with green undertones adds an impressive focal point in the guest bedroom while accentuating the intricate details in the crown molding. The elegant blue and green tones used to finish the decor of the space complement the color of the ceiling perfectly.

A custom wardrobe with a home office in the main bedroom

The custom wardrobe in the main bedroom is built in a smart way, including a floating desk in between the main storage modules and a place to hang the TV on the wall. I love this smart combination of different functionalities and it also provides lots of storage space for the apartment.

Grey kitchen cabinets against sage green walls in an attic apartment

post

This gorgeous turn-of-the-century attic apartment in Sweden (styled by Grey Deco, for sale at Alvhem) has sloped ceilings in the bedroom, however, the rest of the space has straight walls, which makes it easier to decorate and take advantage of the ceiling height.

The light grey kitchen is finished with sage green walls, for an interesting effect in the space with a beautiful dining area right next to the window which is finished with a custom peg rail.

The living room has a beige color palette finished off with brown details, while the bedroom with sloped ceilings has a minimal yet cozy atmosphere.

A grey kitchen with wood countertops and sage green walls

A light grey kitchen paired with sage-green walls

The light grey kitchen is fitted on either side of the space, allowing for enough worktop space and leaving out a big area in front of the window to comfortably fit a dining table. The walls are painted in a beautiful sage green color, which complements the cabinets, while also contrasting nicely with the white tiles on the kitchen walls.

A grey kitchen with wood countertops and sage green walls

The light grey kitchen cabinets are finished with a white subway tile backslash on the wall, brass hardware, and a butcher block countertop to add a natural touch to the otherwise cooler color palette.

The kitchen includes a walk-in-pantry with wall shelving, which is painted in the same wall color as the kitchen, making it a smooth extension of the space.

The kitchen window is fitted with white curtains that stand out against the sage green wall color. The dining table is paired with light wood bentwood chairs and a classic chandelier adds a whimsical touch to this area.

The wall behind the kitchen table has a custom oak wood peg rail that is perfect for hanging kitchen utensils and decor items. It finishes off this dining area in the most perfect way I think.

A combination of beige tones in the cozy living room

While the grey and green tones in the kitchen add a subtle fresh touch to the apartment decor, the living room is decorated in warm beige and brown tones that result in a warmer and cozy atmosphere. The greige living room walls are paired with a warm beige fluffy area rug and natural wood tones in the coffee table and armchair.

The different patterns of the textiles in the throw pillows on the beige sofa add a beautiful texture to the setting, which is reflected in the big round mirror next to the window.

On the other side of the living room, you can find an Ikea Ivar cabinet with a dark stain. The dark brown of the cabinet pairs perfectly with the greige wall color and the brown also comes back in the art print hanging above it.

The white double interior doors that lead towards the kitchen are a gorgeous historic element in the space and they frame the view from the living room into the kitchen nicely.

The TV is mounted to the wall right next to the historic fireplace, paired with an elegant bench to finish the corner.

In a niche space between the bedroom and the walk-in closet, a home office is created with the use of a simple white floating desk that fits into the space. While this spot might not be comfortable enough to work from home full-time, it’s perfect to take the sporadic meetings or to work from home part-time.

Village school house by Norm Architects

post

Renowned Danish design agency Norm Architects has recently completed the renovation and modernization of a Village School house originally built in 1721 with respect to the old traditional building style, however completely modernized on the inside.

The interior is tailored to a busy modern-life family with three children. The flooring throughout the entire house is cast magnesite, paired with bright white walls and oak paneling that connects the material choices of the different floors and functional areas.

The bespoke kitchen by Kolon stretches from one room to another, seamlessly fitting into the architecture, while also including all functionalities necessary in a family kitchen. The kitchen is built entirely in oak with brass knobs and a great stone countertop that resembles the outdoor nature.

The innovative staircase is designed in the same oak material that has been used in the rest of the schoolhouse. Each step is made into a cabinet door underneath the staircase, providing storage for both small and bigger items.

The oak finishes that can be found in the rest of the house come back in the gorgeous bathrooms as well, however, here they are combined with beautiful clay plaster walls that add a natural texture to the calming design. The choice of natural materials accentuates the organic forms that can be observed on the walls of the bathroom, creating a soft atmosphere.

Loft home with a minimal sage green kitchen

post

This beautiful loft home in Sweden (photographed by Adam Helbaoui, sold via Innerstadsspecialisten) has an impressive black metal window that provides the entire apartment with an abundance of natural light. On the other side of the loft, you can find a kitchen with a loft level on top containing the bedroom, which can be accessed by the beautiful black metal staircase next to the sofa.

The loft features a wide array of custom storage modules that were designed when remodeling this place to optimize storage and functionality on a relatively small floor space.

A living room with an impressive window and a ceiling-high custom storage solution

In the front section of the loft space, you can find the living room, which is decorated in an elegant, minimal way. The white fabric couch on top of the large white area rug paired with the white walls provides a beautiful light base palette that is enhanced with black accent pieces to complement the majestic black metal window.

The impressive ceiling height in the living room section is accentuated by the impressive custom bookshelf that includes closed storage modules on the bottom, integrated LED lighting, a home library, and a spot for the TV. I think this is a true masterpiece in the space.

The round mirror above the sofa reflects the space in an elegant way, while the Monstera plant adds a fresh pop of green to the setting.

The bedroom is located on the second level on top of the kitchen, right underneath the beautifully curved ceiling the building architecture provides. The grey rug that covers the entire loft floor is paired with a light grey custom hardware that fits perfectly underneath the lower ceiling.

The bed is made with a mixture of white and beige textiles and two beautiful portable lamps on the bedside tables that match the color palette perfectly.

A floating desk right next to the bedroom wardrobe provides a small spot to work from home, without taking up too much surface in this loft home. I think the desk fits perfectly in between the wardrobe and the railing, blending in with the addition of the black table lamp, black chair, and the set of black and white prints decorating the wall.

19 inspiring kitchens with butcher block countertops

post

Butcher block countertops have been around for ages and they are still far from being out of style or old fashioned. They can be combined with about any kitchen cabinet color and depending on how you integrate them into your kitchen remodel, they can fit perfectly within a modern kitchen design.

You can make butcher block countertops affordable by selecting a laminate or bamboo material, however, depending on the wood species you select for your kitchen design, wood countertops tend to cost much less per square foot/meter than some of the other often-used countertop materials like marble, granite, quartz, or stainless steel.

Butcher block countertops are sustainable, durable, and can be paired with a variety of different cabinet styles and colors, however, they do require maintenance. Wood countertops need to be sealed with mineral oil monthly to protect them against stains or small scratches.

Below, you can find a list of my favorite kitchen designs finished with a wood countertop ranging from farmhouse style, shaker style, or more modern versions.

A Swedish farmhouse kitchen with butcher block countertops

To resemble the original wood beams in the ceiling, this beautiful shaker kitchen in farmhouse style with light grey cabinets is finished with butcher block countertops, paired with a natural wood peg rail, a classic style wood kitchen island and a variety of different antique farmhouse style finds in wood.

The vintage cutting boards hanging on the peg rail add a unique touch and the large white porcelain farmhouse sink stands out against the warm wood tones in this kitchen renovation project.

Dark-stained wood countertops finish off a dark green kitchen

The combination of the beautiful herringbone hardwood flooring with the wooden dining table, and the stylish dark-stained butcher block counters adds a lot of warmth to this kitchen design with dark green kitchen cabinets.

The white tile backsplash is finished off with a small wood trim with the same wood oil stain as the countertop, making the white tiles stand out in a contrasting way. The brass hardware and the stainless steel appliances in this kitchen add a modern touch, which pairs nicely with the traditional elements in the kitchen cabinets and the white porcelain sink.

A light wood countertop adds a natural touch to a classic sage green kitchen design

The sage-green kitchen cabinets in this stylish shaker kitchen are paired with black cabinet hardware, a gold faucet on top of a porcelain sink, and a light wood countertop that adds a soft warmth to the color palette.

The wood surface also comes back on the narrow kitchen island and I love the way the wood tone pairs with the soft sand wall color in this kitchen design.

Light beige walls paired with blue accents in a historic Swedish flat

post

This gorgeous historic apartment in Sweden (styled by Grey Deco, photographed by Henrik Linden, for sale at Alvhem) has intricate white historic details in the interior architecture, paired with white-soaped hardwood flooring for a light base palette that is enhanced with a subtle light beige wall color in both the living room and bedroom.

Both spaces, separated by a double interior door are decorated in a natural color palette, with a few touches of blue that add a true focal point to the interior design.

The simple white kitchen features white kitchen cabinets paired with wood countertops and black hardware. The layout of the kitchen cabinets is planned to include a little breakfast nook to optimize the floor plan to include both the kitchen and a dining area.

The pale dark blue paint on the walls in this living room makes the white molding, white skirting boards, window frames, and ceiling stand out in a powerful way.

The white couch is paired with a pale rug with an oriental pattern, a glass Gubi Pedrera coffee table, and a sand-colored lounge chair. The textiles on the sofa are selected in beige and brown tones that contrast nicely with the blue walls.

By adding contrasting colors to the living room gallery wall, the design becomes unique. The red and brown tones accentuate the bold color choice on the living room wall.

A dark midnight blue living room with an exceptional interior design

The deep blue wall color in this gorgeous turn-of-the-century living room accentuates the historic elements in a perfect way. The brass accents in the white porcelain tile fireplace are brought back in the brass pendant light in the middle of the space, which adds a true focal point to this amazing interior.

The dark grey fabric sofa is paired with a white coffee table and a grey velvet area rug. This combination creates a dark base palette with the wall color and allows for the furnishings and accessories to stand out in the design.

The selection of black and white art prints decorating the midnight blue wall add depth, while the warm tones on the vintage wood cabinet next to the window stand out against the cool tones on the paint color. The blue living room wall color comes back in the Bold chair from Moustache and the natural tones in the other furniture make the setting complete.

Dark blue walls paired with brown tones in the living room furniture

Even though darker blue living room ideas typically work well in bigger spaces, if you are looking to make an impact and create a truly unique effect on a smaller surface, a darker blue color will work wonders.

The calm blue backdrop is enhanced with brown tones in the furniture and bright pops of white in the art prints on the wall and in the sheer white curtains in front of the window.

A grey living room wall color with blue undertones paired with warm tones

Depending on the direction of the daylight, the walls in this living room look grey with blue undertones or light blue. Regardless, the effect of the beige soft furnishings paired with warm wood tones in the antique furniture against the cool wall color is such a powerful one.

Deep blue walls paired with black and white accents

As one of the most contrasting blue living room ideas on this list, it’s the black and white elements against the blues that create a calm yet interesting look. The white floorboards and white crown molding underneath the ceiling frame the blue wall color in a nice way.

The interior designer allowed the white historic details of the living rooms’ architecture to come back in the white sofa, the sheer white curtains, and the white Ikea Besta cabinet on the wall for added storage.

From this blue and white color scheme, the black coffee table, side table, and armchair pop out in a powerful and contrasting way.

A light grey-blue paint color in a spacious turn-of-the-century living room

Compared to the darker blue living room ideas on this list, this gorgeous space has a more subtle and subdued look due to the light blue walls that make the white historic elements stand out in a modest way.

The subtle blue wall color is paired with a white sofa and a white area rug that brightens up the original herringbone hardwood flooring. The brown, grey, and blue tones in the accessories and in the art print decorating the sofa area make for an elegant and sophisticated decor.

A blue living room paired with cool grey tones and white furnishings

While some of the blue living room ideas on this list tend to contrast the cool tones with warm textiles and accessories, the design of this living room is enhanced with cool grey tones in the curtains and textiles to enhance the bold blue color choice.

Even though some beige and brown accents can be found in the interior, apart from the warm wood herringbone flooring, the palette is mainly based on white and cool blue tones.

Other than the blue living rooms in this list where all walls have the same color, this living room works with an accent wall in seemingly the same shade as the blue sofa in front of the white-painted exposed brick wall.

The combination of warm pink, wood, and leather tones in the interior adds an interesting play between cool and warm colors, creating a unique effect in this blue living room.

Blue living room wallpaper for added texture in an elegant interior

Different from the other blue living room ideas on the list, this historic living room is decorated with a blue pattern wallpaper, which adds extra texture to the walls. The blue color combination on the wallpaper design pairs nicely with the light and natural color palette in the interior decor and the white crown molding underneath the ceiling is accentuated by the deep shades on the wall.

A white sofa and white String shelf paired with a grey area rug and a cognac leather armchair set the stage for a variety of different accessories and art prints in natural tones. The Ingo Maurer Zettel lamp in the middle of the space is like a breath of fresh air that enhances the look of this blue living room.

A deep blue living room decorated with green plants and natural tones

This is one of the darkest blue living room ideas on the list, which is almost like black or very dark grey with a blue undertone, which shows the blue tones depending on the direction of the natural light that comes into the space.

Selecting walls this dark is a surefire way of adding character to your interior design, as it will look like everything pops out of the wall. The fresh green plants and the natural elements in this interior stand out against the blue backdrop, while the two artworks painted in the same color as the wall blend in.

Pale blue living room walls paired with a mixture of beiges for an interesting play of warm and cool tones

The living room section in this studio apartment is painted in a muted shade of blue, including the built-ins around the heathers and the living room wainscoting that finishes off the space.

The cool tones in the blue walls, contrast with the subtle warm tones in the different shades of beige, allowing for an interesting play between cool and warm. This is a clever trick to add a sophisticated touch to your interior and since you are working with just two main colors, it’s fairly easy to implement.

Pick your favorite shade of blue and decorate it with different textures and textiles in beige, grey, and brown to find the mixture that works for your space.

18 inspiring TV gallery wall ideas

post

Including a TV gallery wall in your living room or bedroom has become more popular in the last few years, especially after Samsung introduced its frame TV which lends itself perfectly to be integrated into a gallery wall.

You can create a gallery wall around any type of TV, however, whether it’s a mounted TV or one that stands on top of a media cabinet or entertainment center. Work with a selection of art pieces and prints in a similar color as your interior, or go bold and work with a color palette that makes your TV gallery wall stand out in the space.

If you are unsure about how to hang and arrange a gallery wall, you can try the positions out with paper templates as this will give you a good impression of the final result on your blank wall.

A wall-to-wall gallery around the TV

This large TV is attached to the wall with a wall mount on top of floating shelves for an elegant effect. To avoid having a big black box that distracts from the living room interior, the gallery wall around the TV makes it blend in with the other decor.

The pairing of the art prints, the oak and black frames, and the decor objects on top of the floating shelves make this TV wall blend in with the living room in an excellent way.

This impressive gallery includes an elegant TV with an oak frame and is paired with a variety of differently framed art prints that go all the wang up to the ceiling and down to the floor.

The gallery also connects the sofa area with the dining table and the red bench stands out in this otherwise rather modest color palette.

An elegant photo and art print set up around the TV next to a fireplace

The beige living room walls make the white fireplace in this living space stand out in such a lovely way. The black and white art prints and photo prints surrounding the TV add a beautiful contrast to this setting and add a stronger look to the white floor, white fireplace, and the white Ikea Besta cabinet used as storage in this space.

The black elements also come back in the table lamp and simple decor objects and the green Monstera plant next to the cabinet adds a fresh green touch to the setting.

An impressive gallery wall for watching TV in style

The TV used in this beautiful gallery wall looks like a framed artwork with its’ oak border. The art prints, photos, and other frames are spread over two walls in this living area, making the TV barely noticeable in this impressive setup.

A less prominent area behind a sofa is great for a gallery with TV

In this living space, the area behind the sofa is used for the TV, which is a less prominent spot, yet you can still comfortably watch your favorite movies from the other sofa by the window.

The artwork right next to the TV is larger than the TV itself, which allows it to take a more prominent space and take away the attention from the black screen right next to it.

A Samsung Frame TV integrated into a colorful gallery wall

The colorful mixture of gold frames, photos, and art prints matches perfectly with the color palette in this interior. The Frame TV blends in with the rest of this colorful setting and the fact that the gallery covers almost the entire wall makes it even more impressive.

A combination of frames and candle wall sconces around the TV

This beautiful living room with cool grey walls includes a small area for a rather big TV, so the two art frames can only find a place to hang above the TV. On either side, the wall is decorated with brass candle wall sconces for a cozy effect.

The natural rattan doors of the cabinet pair nicely with the hardwood floor, while the beige table lamp adds a cozy light at night along with the candles.

A gallery wall with a TV underneath the stairs

The area underneath the stairs is covered with wallpaper and turned into a beautiful spot to watch TV. The dark paint color on top of the white staircase makes this area stand out even more. I like the idea of accentuating the TV corner rather than hiding it away and the usage of this bold pattern wallpaper does just that.

The vintage cabinet underneath the TV wall is painted in a dusty blue color, which completes the color palette of this eclectic setup with vintage elements in a characterful way.

A gallery wall with a TV right above the living room wainscoting

This beautiful two-tone living room has white wainscoting on the bottom that pairs nicely with the white-soaped hardwood flooring used throughout the space. The TV is hung on the area above the wainscoting, which is painted in a subtle greige wall color and paired with a beautiful art frame combination to decorate this corner.

The gallery including the TV fits inside of the moldings on the wall, which clearly define and accentuate this area of the interior.

The color of the cabinets underneath the TV matches the color on the wall for an integrated effect and the portable lamp will add a cozy atmospheric light next to the TV at night.

A playful arrangement around a small TV

A mixture of black, white, and gold frames surrounds a small TV which is mounted on top of a simple cabinet. The dark wall color makes the gallery wall stand out, making it a highlight in this living room space.

Other than photos, prints, and frames, this gallery includes two mirrors that create variety in shape and material textures.

A tall gallery wall in a living room with high ceilings

This spacious living room has a high ceiling, allowing for the gallery wall around the TV to spread over a larger surface height-wise. The TV is placed on a stand on an arrangement of white Ikea Besta cabinets which stand out against the subtle light grey walls.

The art frames fill the area around the TV, resulting in a beautiful setting that fits well within the space.

A simple black-and-white setup in a monochromatic living room

The walls in this living room with light grey walls are kept quite bare, which is also reflected in the way the TV is integrated into the interior. The white space around the TV is filled with a single art print hanging next to it.

I love the way the black screen with a white frame is contrasted by a white print with a black frame right next to it. This fits perfectly with the monochrome setting in the decoration.

Consider the television as a beautiful piece of furniture to decorate

The beautiful greige wall color in this living room makes the mounted TV and media console stand out just like a piece of furniture. The large wall-to-wall cabinet is painted in the same color as the wall and this is a great spot to integrate artwork and decor objects to complement the television set.

The black from the TV comes back in the black coffee table, the black hardware on the cabinets, and in the small decor objects, allowing it to fit in with the color palette.

A single print hanging next to the TV on a small wall space

When creating a television set up on a rather small wall just like in the living room below, you might not have enough space to create an entire gallery wall around it. This TV wall is finished off with a single picture frame, a black table lamp, and a careful selection of decor items that soak up the natural light coming in through those large curved windows.

Pairing a TV with just a single piece of art on the wall works great in smaller spaces like a family room, or when you want to integrate a smaller bedroom TV without turning it into a full-blown gallery wall. You can even pair the television set with a family photo to add a bit more personality to the setting.

An older TV model works just as well in a gallery setting

While the Samsung TV might be your first choice when thinking about a gallery wall around the TV, you can use any type of model. In the example below, you can find a more dated model, which blends in nicely with a selection of art prints and black-and-white photos.

The arrangement of Ikea Besta cabinets is a great idea for storing books and electronics and when you want to fully integrate your television into your gallery, make sure to hang a piece of art on top of it as well, to cover all areas around the tv.

Multiple gallery walls and an integrated TV

This living room gallery wall spreads out over three living room walls for an impressive effect in the space. In between all these oak and white frames, arranged in a beautiful layout, the TV is hung up, eliminating the need for a TV stand and blending in just like a piece of art.

Since the gallery wall includes many dark tones, the black screen blends in rather well while you are not watching TV.

This type of integration will work best if you can hide away the cables into the wall, for a seamless integration into your gallery wall.
