18 Inspiring kitchens with a terrazzo countertop for a playful effect

post

A terrazzo countertop can have an impressive, playful, and unique effect on a kitchen design. It’s a very versatile material made out of stone and glass fragments or marble chips, which allows you to put a warm pot on the countertop without a heat pad (check the guidelines of the manufacturer on this to make sure).

if you prefer minimalist neutral shades, you can go for pretty neutral terrazzo countertops or light grey countertops, however, you can pick out a bold or bright terrazzo countertop for a more modern terrazzo look that is very trendy at the moment. There are so many terrazzo variations to pick from, so you can make sure to match it with the color palette of your kitchen materials. For installing terrazzo, you should hire professional installers to make sure there is no cracking.

A modern terrazzo can have a playful effect and can result in a lovely and bold space. Terrazzo countertops, unlike marble and granite designs, are an emerging trendy countertop material, which might make them slightly less timeless in design. However, they are very long-lasting, so if you love this material regardless of it being trendy, it’s a great choice as a countertop material that can stand the test of time.

The bright terrazzo countertops and bright terrazzo backsplash turn this minimal kitchen with beige cabinets into a design with a very distinct style.

The terrazzo kitchen countertops are paired with glass front upper cabinets, a gorgeous kitchen island, and natural elements in the bar stool and hardwood floor for an interesting mix of materials. The terrazzo countertop also comes back in the cover underneath the upper glass cabinets and on the sides of the island with seating, which makes the effect of this beautiful natural texture even more impressive.

The blue sleek cabinets in this kitchen with white tiles against the wall have a playful look resulting from the combination of the white terrazzo countertop with red and blue tones and the rail with the pots and pans.

The stylish countertop ties the kitchen together and the blue recycled components in the countertop come back in the cabinet color as well for a cohesive look. The red tones in the terrazzo, on the other hand, can be seen in the warm copper and wood details on display on the rail.

This serene Nordic kitchen with green cabinets is enhanced with a white upper cabinet, black wall lamps, and gorgeous beige terrazzo countertops that tie the color palette together nicely and add warmth.

The effect of the beige terrazzo is impressive because of the tall backsplash that uses the same material and it stands out against the white walls. Since the color variations on the stone chips are rather modest, this type of terrazzo has a timeless look that won’t go out of style.

This bold kitchen design features a beautiful natural grain on the walnut kitchen cabinets, paired with large colorful chips in the green terrazzo countertop. White terrazzo countertops on the island and in the kitchen module

The sleek no handles cabinets in this beautiful warm kitchen stand out from the light hardwood flooring and the bright terrazzo countertop.

While dark wood cabinets are used on the main kitchen module, the kitchen island is entirely made out of terrazzo, which makes it a real focal point in the space. The white of the countertop stands out against the off-white paint color on the walls and comes back in the white wall lamp and artwork for a subtle, yet sophisticated effect in the interior.

The cool white terrazzo countertops stand out in this small kitchen made out of natural materials. The long blonde wood shelf with cabinet doors paired up with open blonde wood shelves and cabinet doors add a lot of texture to the space, which is brightened up by the terrazzo countertops.

The white walls and matching floor make the light-stained kitchen stand out in a subtle way and I love the way the natural textures in both materials take front and center in this interior.

The cheerful terrazzo countertops with various stone chips in different sizes add a playful touch to the blue kitchen cabinets in this spacious kitchen. The big sizes of stone chips in this terrazzo are great for such a large space, as the countertops will have more of an impressive effect on the interior.

17 Kitchens with a stainless steel countertop

post

Out of all the countertop materials you can choose from, stainless steel countertops are one of the most long-lasting ones, which is definitely something to keep in mind when you are planning a kitchen design that can stand the test of time.

Just like stainless steel kitchen cabinets, stainless steel countertops are often used in commercial kitchens and for outdoor applications because they are so durable, hygienic, and insensitive to scratches when sealed. They are easy in maintenance and can contribute to a contemporary appearance in a residential kitchen.

The fabrication and installation of a stainless steel countertop need to be done by a professional, because of the custom sizes of your kitchen design and the edge profiles you prefer. In the list below, you can find the most inspiring kitchen designs with stainless steel countertops combined with different materials and colors in the backsplash and cabinets to give you a headstart in your kitchen design process.

29 Corner kitchen cabinet ideas to optimize your kitchen layout

post

A corner kitchen cabinet is great to adjust your kitchen design to the space and to make it feel integrated. Even though most kitchens use them, corner kitchen layouts bring unique challenges.

How to make use of this dead corner and optimize the wasted space is something that many homeowners have to deal with. You can optimize this dead corner space with pull-out drawers or a lazy susan, yet there are many ways to maximize the functionality of your corner kitchen.

In the list below, you can find my favorite corner cabinet ideas that will help you decide on the planning of your next kitchen remodel. Even though it’s the more expensive option, it’s usually better to get help from a professional kitchen company to plan and install a corner cabinet layout.

Open shelving as the corner cabinet

In this kitchen with light oak kitchen cabinets, the corner kitchen cabinet is created by merging tall cupboards together with the lower cabinets in front of the window. It’s hard to say whether the underside of the open shelves is accessible for extra storage space, yet the layout looks very elegant.

The countertop continues into the open shelves and the illusion of a bigger kitchen is created by making the blind corner cabinet an open one.

A blind corner is accentuated by a lighter countertop and cabinet underside

The cabinetry in this beautiful red kitchen with a kitchen island is built in a corner layout. The corner of the room also contains a module that hides the pipes, meaning the blind corner created by the cabinets meeting can’t be used for storage.

The blind kitchen corner can be observed in both the bottom and upper cabinets, providing a lot of storage capacity. By picking out the countertops and the bottom cover of the upper cabinets in a lighter color, the corner kitchen cabinets get framed in a unique and stylish way.

Open storage space in a blind corner cabinet

Rather than working with lazy susans or pull-out drawers, the blind corner cabinet in this kitchen is used for open shelving, which is an easy and effective solution to utilize as much space as possible for kitchen storage.

While you have to keep these open shelves clutter-free to maintain a minimal look, they also offer easy access to your pots and pans while cooking. The floating shelf on top of the tile backsplash is great for adding glasses.

A shaker kitchen with great use of storage in the blind corner

This shaker kitchen cabinetry takes organization to the next level and includes ample storage opportunity from floor to ceiling. An empty upper area above the corner cabinets for a lighter look

In this minimal kitchen with push-to-open cabinets and a fresh white marble countertop, the upper cabinets are hung up above the stovetop but don’t continue all the way toward the corner.

Corner cabinets tend to make the kitchen look more crowded, so keeping the area above the corner cabinet free of upper cabinetry ensures a minimal and modern look.

A narrow pull-out drawer next to the kitchen sink

This beautiful shaker kitchen with sage green kitchen cabinets combines a corner cabinet with a lazy susan with a narrow pull-out drawer in the available space next to the kitchen sink to optimize otherwise wasted space.

Narrow pull-out drawers like this one are great for storing spices or cutting boards and they allow you to fill up gaps in your kitchen plan. In this example, it wouldn’t be aesthetically pleasing to place the farmhouse sink right next to the corner cabinet, so a narrow drawer offers a perfect yet functional gap filler in this case.

Two separate kitchen modules meet each other in a corner

Even though this spacious kitchen with green kitchen cabinets looks like it was made with a kitchen corner cabinet at first glance, it’s actually two entirely different kitchen modules placed together.

The blind corner is filled by a fake wall, which is covered with black marble that is also used on the backsplash. While this is an effective solution to plan out your kitchen cabinets, you would need to replace the corner storage space with a wall.

A blind corner to expand countertop space in the kitchen

In this beautiful, minimal kitchen with white kitchen cabinets, an impressive marble countertop, and black hardware the corner layout seems to be purely aesthetic. Even though the kitchen corner isn’t optimized for storage, an additional countertop area is created, which is pretty useful as well.

A wider corner set up to allow for extra counter space

The corner area next to the window is expanded slightly before going over into tall cupboards that reach the doorway. This allows for more counterspace and it opens up the space next to the window visually. Closed cabinets rest on top of lower kitchen corner cabinets

In this kitchen with grey kitchen cabinets the tall cupboards at the back wall are all used for closed storage, including the ones that sit on top of the blind corner on each side of this galley kitchen.

Most kitchen cabinet ideas on the list will keep the area on top of the kitchen corner open, yet in this example, cabinet doors are applied to the corner as well. Keep in mind that you would either have to keep the counter space clear so you are able to open those cabinets, or store unused or barely used kitchen items in those cabinets.

This kitchen with pink kitchen cabinets has an impressive wall of tall cupboards from which the lower cabinets containing the sink seem to be extruded.

Since the kitchen island provides the kitchen with ample countertop space, the entire wall can be used for storage and the bottom half of the blind corner can be closed off. The upper area contains closed shelving which would be perfect for placing a coffee corner for example.

This beautiful corner shaker kitchen with upper cabinets reaching the ceiling and corner cabinets on the bottom makes use of drawers on the one side and a cabinet door with a lazy susan behind it on the other side. 20 of the best mushroom lamp designs for the modern interior

post

Mushroom lamps are simple in design, with a mushroom shape shade on the top of a tin body, resulting in a mushroom-inspired design, hence the name of the trendy lamp. The 60s icon is still today a beautiful addition to a modern interior and its’ organic shape adds a simple, yet perfect design aesthetic to the style of a room.

While they are a popular choice, mushroom lamps tend to be great atmospheric lighting as the mushroom shade diffuses the light and directs the light downwards, resulting in a soft glow in the interior. Some say mushroom lamps are a trend, yet I personally believe they are just so timeless they fit in every era and were never really gone. That’s the beauty of simple and timeless design, isn’t it?

In the list below, you can find my favorite picks of the best mushroom lamps that fit perfectly in a modern interior. The list contains both pricy and more affordable designs, tall or lower models, and a variety of different colorways and materials to fit your room design and needs.

20 of the best mushroom lamp designs for the modern interior

Reverse lamp designed by Aleksandar Lazic for Audo

The Reverse Lamp fits the mushroom lamp trend because of its shape, yet its beautiful material composition has a modern touch that draws the eye to the details. As the inspiration for this lamp, Danish designer Aleksandar Lazic looked at marble tables from 1970s Italy.

The mushroom lamp combines a travertine base with a curved, bronzed aluminum shade that defines the perfectly balanced expression of the lamp. The brightness of the light diffuses evenly on the raw stone material, revealing shadows and a play of color and texture created by the natural material.

Where the base and mushroom shade meet, the designer included a dimmer to adjust the brightness of the LED light source.

The Flowerpot lamp designed by Verner Panton in 1960 is a true icon and is currently available in a series of different models and colorways. While the mushroom lamp trend continued way into the 1970s and even still today, Verner Panton’s designs pioneered the iconic organic design language of the mushroom lamps.

Artemide Nessino mushroom lamp designed by Giancarlo Mattioli

In the 1960s, designers refined the domestic landscape through the first uses of plastics. In this era, Giancarlo Mattioli designed the Nessino mushroom lamp as an expressive and affordable design inspired by nature and the challenges of industrial manufacturing technology at the time.

The Pao lamp collection, though reminiscent of a mushroom, is named after traditional Mongolian Pao tents that are illuminated at night time. The designer captured the same atmosphere and warmth coming from the tents into the lamp collection.

The LED light source is nestled inside the shade, keeping it away from view and giving the lamp a clean and unbroken visual identity. The base and shade are made out of opal glass, making the mushroom lamps suitable for both domestic and corporate environments.

20 floating kitchen shelves ideas that tie the kitchen design together

post

Floating kitchen shelves are a great option to add additional storage space to your kitchen walls, without the layout and design of the kitchen feeling too heavy. Especially in small spaces, sometimes the combination of both upper cabinets and lower ones can be a bit too heavy for a room layout. However, by replacing some or all of the upper cabinetry with floating shelves, the look becomes light and airy.

Installing shelves can be a great way to add a spot for displaying a few pretty kitchen objects, depending on the weight capacity and shelf placement. The most important factor when styling your floating shelves is to work with different materials, sizes, and heights so you end up with an interesting look for your kitchen that looks balanced and not too crowded. Play around with it a little to find the right look for your kitchen space.

Floating kitchen shelves can be planned when you design your kitchen and most kitchen companies will have a few models in their catalog. However, you can use any floating shelves (just pay attention to a few factors like weight capacity, dimensions, and stain sensitivity) or even go the DIY route in your kitchen.

A combination of upper cabinetry with a floating shelf placement

If you want to achieve a lighter kitchen look, yet you do need upper cabinetry for storing away food or kitchen appliances, creating an upper layout that consists of a combination of cabinets and floating kitchen shelves might be just the right balance you are looking for.

In this beautiful kitchen, both the floating kitchen shelves and the upper cabinetry are white, resulting in a lighter effect that contrasts with the dark wood cabinets at the bottom of the kitchen. The floating shelf starts above the stone backsplash and the thickness of the shelf is the same as the thickness of the cabinet edge right next to it.

A minimal white kitchen with a full-length floating shelf

In the kitchen in my previous apartment, minimal white cabinetry paired up nicely with a white countertop, brass hardware, white walls, and a full-length white floating shelf with an integrated LED strip that functioned as overhead lighting.

I loved the floating shelf for styling and since the combination of lower cabinets and tall cupboards provided more than enough closed storage space, I could use the floating kitchen shelves solely for displaying pretty kitchen items, one of my prints, or even taller items like a vase with flowers.

White floating kitchen shelves with a classic look

This beautiful classy kitchen with blue cabinets is finished off with a white farmhouse sink, white countertops, and matching white floating shelves mounted on the wall above the sink which allows everything to be within reach while you cook or wash the dishes.

The white brackets of the open shelving enhance the amazing classy look of the kitchen and they are also used to mount the brass rail that spreads along the entire shelf length. The shelf itself is used for details, small artwork, and plants, which complement the elegant wall lamps that hang right above it.

The brass rail matches the brass of the faucets and kitchen hardware for a cohesive look.

Marble floating kitchen shelves in a corner layout

The floating kitchen shelves in this beautiful kitchen with sage green kitchen cabinets are constructed out of the same material as the backsplash. The installation of the shelves is done on two walls, resulting in a corner layout on the first shelf with the rail hanging below it.

The combination of the floating shelves with the rails creates a great kitchen section for keeping glasses, dry goods, and utensils. The top shelf is used for pretty accessories to decorate the space, while the bottom one is more functional.

Floating kitchen shelves made out of the same marble as the backsplash

The different kitchen materials in this kitchen complement each other in such a perfect way. The impressive marble backsplash is also used as the material for the large floating kitchen shelves, which ties the look together and provides the kitchen with an ideal spot to display a selection of glasses and accessories.

The floating shelf fits the exact dimensions of the kitchen module, making it fit perfectly inside the niche space created by the two tall cupboards on each side.

This would be a great idea for a high-end bathroom as well, to make floating shelves out of the same material as the marble used for the shower wall.

A wood wall shelf in the same material as the kitchen cabinets

I think this is one of the best wood shelf ideas on the list, as the wood of the floating shelf matches the light oak wood of the kitchen cabinets in this small studio kitchen. The small open shelving has a standing edge on the back and on the sides and fits perfectly underneath the sloped A-line roof.

Floating kitchen shelves in front of a window

This is one of the more unique floating shelves on the list, as the floating shelf is mounted in front of a kitchen window, making it an ideal spot for plants as they get so much sunlight there. The floating shelf has a bar on the bottom for hanging kitchen utensils and a kitchen towel, which comes in handy right next to the kitchen sink.

Keep in mind that in Scandinavia (where this kitchen is located), often windows open towards the outside. If your windows open inwards like in most other European countries, this would only be an option if you don’t plan to open this window.

Tin floating kitchen shelves next to the stove hood

The elaborate stove hood design in this kitchen is quite prominent with its intricate detailing on the bottom that would make it challenging to fit cabinets next to it on the wall. Floating kitchen shelves on each side of the hood add elegance to the setting and make the black material of the countertops come back against the white kitchen wall.

The combination of the olive green kitchen cabinets with the black in the kitchen shelves and countertops and the white walls make for a powerful and unique palette that is enhanced by the subtle brass hardware.

Walnut floating kitchen shelves in a corner kitchen layout

This beautiful kitchen with walnut cabinetry and grey marble countertops was kept empty on the top walls, with the exception of the beautiful walnut floating kitchen shelves that are mounted in a corner layout following the kitchen floor plan.

The bottom shelf stops right where the sink module starts, while the upper floating shelf stops right before that, resulting in an asymmetrical layout that adds an elegant playfulness to the setting. Floating kitchen shelves wrapped around the tiled kitchen wall

The room design and kitchen layout are unique, to say the least. The kitchen wraps around a corned layout in the floor plan and combines grey and walnut cabinet fronts with vertical subway tiles on the wall. The real focal point in the room design however, are the tin black floating kitchen shelves that follow the angles of the wall and provide a place for hanging utensils or displaying ceramics, a cutting board, artwork, and a pretty salt and pepper grinder set.

Tin floating kitchen shelves for aesthetic purposes enhance a room design

A simple and elegant walnut wall shelf fills the soft beige wall above the walnut kitchen module. The lines of the frame in between the kitchen doors have the same thickness as the wall shelf, which makes the design very elegant and streamlined. Open shelves are great to style and re-style time and time again to change the look and overall appearance of your room. Changing out the accessories and varying the color palette by making small changes on your wall shelves is one of the easiest ways to update your kitchen look.

24 Window seat ideas that are a real focal point

post

Window seats can be a great spot to enjoy the view of your garden or over the city from. They are a prime spot to enjoy the natural light coming into your house or apartment and they can be integrated into your interior without too much cost or effort.

To me, the best window seat ideas are the ones that integrate and blend in with the surrounding furniture and interior. You can style your window seat with a mixture of throw pillows, blankets, seat cushions, and the optional sheepskin to make it the coziest spot in your interior.

In the kitchen, window seats can be a great way to provide the space with a breakfast nook, but it can be a great solution to integrate a cozy window seat inside of the kitchen layout as well. In the living room, dining room, or even kids room on the other hand they can provide you with the ultimate spot to enjoy the sun or to read a good book.

Spacious apartment with a loft bed and impressive custom storage

post

This beautiful, spacious apartment with a wall of historic windows letting in an abundance of sunlight has one large room which contains all functionality, and two loft spaces: one for sleeping on top of the kitchen and one for lounging on top of a storage module.

Having such high ceilings means you have to utilize the height of the room, which the interior designer of this space took by heart. The living space includes a custom storage module that goes all the way up to the ceiling where you have a lot of artwork and accessories on display. On the side of the dining table, an impressive XL mirror covers the entire wall, making the space appear twice as big.

On the other side of the sofa, you can find a beautiful rectangular oak wood dining table which is paired up with black dining chairs and a fiddle fig tree in the corner. The real eye-catcher in this area, however, is the massive XL mirror wall that makes the space appear twice as big.

If you look closely, the mirror consists of many smaller panels mounted very closely together, resulting in one mirror wall that stops right below the trim underneath the ceiling.

On the other side of the window, the kitchen and bedroom are stacked on top of each other. The loft bed on top of the kitchen can be accessed from the custom-built stairs next to the dining table and since the ceilings are so high in this apartment, both room functionalities seem spacious.

The white kitchen cabinets are paired up with a mirrored backsplash, which makes the kitchen space appear bigger. The impressive Monstera by the end of the bed adds a wonderful green touch to this setting and functions as a room separator of sorts.

Bookshelf desk: 12 space-saving home office examples

post

While some of us have the luxury of having a room dedicated to a home office, in most of our homes, a desk is added to a living room, bedroom, or other available space. When combining room functionalities together, especially when working with a smaller floor plan, it’s crucial to select a desk that is compact and includes storage.

This post is all about the combination of computer desk functionality with a bookshelf to provide extra storage for the paperwork you want to keep within reach or accessories you want to have on display in your interior.

Some of the solutions below are products from brands you can shop as readily available items, others are more general concepts that can be made out of shelving systems. They all have one thing in common though: they will allow you to create a nice home office spot on any free wall in your home while blending in with your interior style.

A black bookshelf with a desk against a greige wall for a dramatic effect

This black wall bracket system spreads over an entire wall painted in a beautiful greige paint color. The desk surface is big enough so it can be used as a computer desk and the other shelves are great for a mixture of storage and display of accessories.

When working with a customizable shelf system, make sure to leave enough space between the desk shelf and the shelves on top so you can place a lamp or display in your home office.

A white wall-mounted bookshelf with a desk on a small surface

Similar to the first example, this bracket system provides the space with a home office spot on a relatively small surface right next to the sofa in this living room. The white shelves and brackets blend in with the white wall and make the bookshelf desk even more subtle.

The black desk chair and accessories stand out against the white backdrop and the desk light is a clasp lamp that is attached to one of the shelves so it doesn’t take up any space on the desk itself.

A walnut bookshelf desk system with gold brackets

The classic DK3 Royal System was designed by Poul Cadovius in 1948 and has a very classic look. The system consists of wall-mounted wooden rails, shelves with hangers in brass or stainless steel, and various cabinets that can be customized to your needs, including a desk to turn your shelving system into a little home office.

I love the combination of the dark green walls with the walnut wood and the brass brackets, which must make this the most elegant and classy solution on the list.

A wall-mounted bookshelf desk with a drawer

This beautiful wall shelving system made out of wood stands out against the modern white walls. The black brackets and the black desk chair add contrast to the setting, which is a color combination that comes back in the adjacent hallway.

The drawer underneath the desk provides extra storage for small office supplies and the assymetric placement of the shelves makes the setting a little bit playful.

A custom corner shelving solution with a desk in black against pink walls

A small niche corner in this hallway with pink walls has been transformed into a corner bookshelf desk with black walls and black shelving. In order for this corner bookshelf to work as a desk as well, the shelves have been cut at an angle, to allow enough space for the home office section.

The combination of the pink hallway walls with the black color palette in the home office section is very powerful and matches the color of the doors and window frames in the space. The grey carpet adds a soft touch and comes back in the seat cover on the desk stool.

A freestanding white bookshelf solution with closed storage and a computer desk

For my studio home, I selected the Moebe bookshelf system, which is a freestanding modular solution that includes both a computer desk and a storage cabinet module with doors. While this bookshelf desk is available in a wood or black version as well, I picked out a white setting that would blend in with the white flooring and white walls in this place.

The desk is the perfect home office when I’m in Belgium and I love working from my laptop next to this window looking over the fields.

When you have a larger wall available, like in this beautiful living room with grey walls, you can spread your shelving solution over the entire wall for a more impressive effect. The computer desk on the right side is paired up with a few shelves for books and a large green plant that really stands out in this setting.

Two wall-mounted desks with shelving designed by Børge Mogensen

The recently released BM29 shelf designed by Børge Mogensen is a bookshelf system with a desk that is available as a single or double desk solution for when you work from home with two people. You could also use one of the desks a computer desk and the other for making notes.

Børge Mogensen designed the BM29 bookshelf for Fredericia in 1956 and this timeless and functional piece of furniture adds beautiful Scandinavian elegance to your home office.

A computer desk as part of a wall-attached bookshelf system

The Tônn bookshelf is a modular bookshelf system that attaches to the wall and can be customized with closed storage, shelving, and even a desk module. The off-white bookshelf desk blends into the wall with the same paint color and the closed storage right above the desk module is easy to reach while working.

In this living room with white walls and white-soaped hardwood flooring, a white bookshelf desk system blends into the walls and takes up only a small corner next to the door. The shelves can hold folders, decor items, and paperwork, along with accessories, while the long and narrow desk makes for a spacious home office spot.

The String Furniture System bookshelf with a desk or table

String Furniture is one of the most famous brands for modular wall shelving and it’s also the solution I have had in my personal home for years. It’s easy to update and adjust to your needs and over time, I included a foldable table, which functions as a computer desk as well.

The bookshelf can also be used in the kitchen as a small table for having coffee next to your espresso machine and the foldable table can also be replaced by a smaller desk shelf if you want your home office setting to be even more compact.

A bedroom with a black limewash wall

post

What stands out the most to me in this beautiful apartment for sale in Sweden, is the black limewash wall in the bedroom, which can be seen from the wooden double interior doors in the living room.

The living room lies between the kitchen and the bedroom, making the large wood dining table the center point of the apartment. The brown tints and green plants work well with the beautiful exposed brick wall in the living space.

The simple kitchen design features light grey kitchen cabinets, paired with a wood countertop, brass hardware, and a tiled backsplash that goes up to the ceiling.

In the living room, the double interior door that leads up to the bedroom stands out against the white walls. The beautiful wood texture in the doors pairs nicely with the different wood tones at the dining table and frames the black limewash walls in the bedroom.

One of the walls in the living room has exposed brick, which provides the space with a lovely texture. The Golden Photos in the living room corner branches out over the wall and over the wooden double doors, which adds a lovely green touch to the interior design.

The brown fabric sofa is paired up with a beige textural area rug and a mixture of neutral tones in the throw pillows, art prints, and accessories for a modest and calm look.

The vintage dining table with a mixture of chairs is placed in between the kitchen and the bedroom. This spot gets a lot of daylight through these two windows, which have been decorated with a variety of beautiful accessories.

On the other side of the bedroom, you can find a kitchen with light grey kitchen cabinets and wood countertops. The simple cabinetry is enhanced with brass hardware and the kitchen walls and backsplash are covered in an elegant white tile for a beautifully finished look.

A bedroom with a black limewash wall

Going for a black or dark grey bedroom wall color can have a very unique effect on a space. In this particular bedroom design, the walls are covered in black limewash paint, which results in a beautiful wall texture from which the accessories, green branches, and artwork stand out.

The black limewash wall contrasts nicely with the white shelf on the wall, the white side table, and the beautiful white table lamp. The limewash wall is framed beautifully by the white floorboards and the white trim underneath the ceiling.

A cozy sitting area next to the bed adds a cozy element to the space.

The double interior door: 14 mesmerizing historic examples

post

Double interior doors are a great way to create an open-plan floor layout in a small space, which can still be closed for privacy when needed. You can find interior double doors in a variety of different shapes, styles, sizes, colors, or wood species to match your interior decor and room materials. You can even opt to add glass panels.

Below, you can find my favorite interiors with double doors. Most of them are historic, yet they are great inspirations for the effect you can achieve in your interior.

The interior doors in this beautiful turn-of-the-century apartment connect a kitchen and living room, which both have white-stained hardwood flooring. The grey color palette in the kitchen also comes back on the living room wall paint behind the sofa, making the grey stain on these double doors the perfect addition to this setting.

The glossy blue double doors in this majestic interior frame the minimally decorated bedroom in a light grey color palette.

The door slab color varies from the white door frame and the blue wall color, which results in a beautiful material combination. The brass door handle adds the finishing touch and stands out against the blue gloss treatment on the door.

If you like to change your interior, you can vary your door color and adjust it along with the color of your walls.

If you happen to bump into historic doors (check for availability and prices in your area), you can go for the distressed look like in this example and only strip off part of the paint. This will add a rustic effect to your interior.
