A rustic loft apartment with exposed beams

post

The black and white decor in this rustic loft apartment complements the beautiful exposed wood beams and the natural wood tone they provide to the interior look. The limewash walls in the entire space give the walls a soft and elegant beige tone that makes the furniture pieces and accessories stand out in a lovely way.

The living room is located on the second level of the loft, where the A-roof makes it rather challenging to place large furniture pieces. On the lower level, you can find a beautiful white kitchen and a cozy bedroom decorated in beige and brown tones. The staircase towards the second level is fully optimized for integrated storage modules underneath it.

optimizing the interior to the sloped ceilings in the living room

Since sloped ceilings are present on both sides of the living room, the sofa section is placed in the middle, where the ceilings are highest. The area in front of the balcony window is great for a small living room home office spot, while the lower ceiling areas are perfect for wall shelving and a subtle floor lamp.

The white fabric sofa is paired with a rustic black coffee table and a black and white area rug that provides a lot of texture to the interior of this rustic loft apartment. The wall behind the sofa is used for a black storage module, which adds a lot of contrast against the beige limewash walls and the white sofa.

The white kitchen cabinets stand out against the beige limewashed walls and are paired up with a white countertop and white hardware for a minimal look that is contrasted by the black kitchen island, dark wood wall shelving, and the small vintage dining table.

A beige and brown color palette in the bedroom

Just like in the rest of this rustic loft apartment, the walls of the bedroom are painted with beige limewash paint. The sheer beige and white curtains warm up the light coming in from the window, resulting in a soft and cozy setting. The beige and white textiles, combined with the brown tones in the decoration fan above the bed and the bedside lamps add a lot of depth to the color palette.

A sage green color palette in a spacious Swedish apartment

post

This beautiful Swedish apartment with different floor types in every single room has a beautiful sage green color palette that freshens up the white base palette in the interior. The sage green kitchen is built in a galley layout, with an indoor window looking out over the hallway which includes a small home office.

The sage green bedroom on the other side of the apartment matches the color palette perfectly and provides the space with an elegant backdrop from which the warm tones in the textiles and bedside tables stand out.

The galley kitchen layout works nicely in this narrow kitchen space, which is filled with cabinets and cupboards on one side and a dining table by the window.

A combination of lower and upper cabinets fill the left side, while the right side includes lower modules only for a lighter look that is paired up with a wall shelf in wood.

The interior window looking out towards the hallway makes the kitchen appear more spacious. The area underneath the window is fitted with narrow cabinets for a finished look.

A dining area with a bench

The light-flooded kitchen with white walls and white floors is finished off with a small round bistro table, a white bench, and two natural wood dining chairs. This spot by the window is perfect for having dinner and by stopping the kitchen layout where the doorway starts, there is still ample space available for the table.

A simple living room look with white walls

The living room lies in between the bedroom and the kitchen, which are both decorated in a sage-green color palette. To balance things out, the decor of the living room is kept simple and neutral, which pairs nicely with the white walls.

The herringbone flooring in the bedroom is paired up with white-soaped hardwood flooring in the bedroom and the white-painted floors in the kitchen for a lot of variation in floor texture.

The sage-green color palette continues in the bedroom

The bedroom is painted in a beautiful sage-green wall color, from which the white floorboards and the white trim underneath the ceiling stand out. The bedroom is decorated in a modest way, with sheer white curtains and white bedding standing out against the darker sage-green color on the walls.

Soft wood tones and beige and terracotta tones in the textiles warm up the color palette, while the black wall lamps add some contrast to the setting.

A hallway with floating shelves and a home office spot

The spacious hallway includes a mudroom with storage for jackets and shoes, a bookshelf, and a small section to work from home which gets indirect daylight from the indoor kitchen window.

A hallway with open shelving

On the other side of the indoor kitchen window, you can find a hallway space with a home office spot, that is separated from the rest of the hallway by painting this section light grey. The white desk includes two top shelves for storing plants and office supplies, which is a great combined solution for small spaces.

A niche space in between two door frames is the perfect spot for wall shelving to store both books and accessories. This shelf changes the total appearance of the hallway and makes it more unique.

A living kitchen with natural wood kitchen cabinets

post

The beautiful and spacious living kitchen in this Swedish apartment has a color palette that revolves around the beautiful kitchen module with natural wood cabinets combined with an elegant beige limestone countertop. The living and dining area has a complementary color scheme with natural wood tones combined with beiges, greys, and some black accents for a warm and natural color palette.

The bedroom has a darker grey wall color with a magenta undertone, which is paired up with green wardrobe doors for an interesting color palette. The green wardrobe fronts also come back in the spacious hallway with a lot of storage space.

A beige color palette living kitchen

A natural wood kitchen with beige limestone countertops

The beautiful natural wood kitchen is spread over the entire wall of this living kitchen, leaving out the need for upper cabinets altogether and thus creating a lighter look. The range hood front is painted in the same beige color as the wall so it blends in and the open shelving provides a great spot for storing pretty kitchen accessories and appliances.

The beige limestone countertops and backsplash finish the kitchen look off nicely and provide it with a high-end touch. The chrome hardware adds a modern touch to the setting.

The area near the two windows is a prime spot for the round dining table, which is paired up with natural bentwood chairs that match the wood tone on the kitchen cabinets. The elegant fabric pendant light above the table adds a subtle texture to the setting.

A cozy sofa area with lots of textiles

The beige walls in the living room section provide the space with the perfect backdrop for the darker beige linen curtains and the many different textiles on the beige sofa, area rug, and throw pillows. The beige marble coffee tables pair up nicely with the limestone countertops in the kitchen.

The sculptural ceiling light is a real eye-catcher in the space and I love the way it stands out against the darker tone of the beige curtains.

Dark grey walls and green wardrobe doors in the bedroom

While the living kitchen has a light and warm color palette, the bedroom has a bit more of a dramatic look because of the darker grey wall color. The beautiful magenta undertones in the paint color add a cool tone to the room, which is warmed up by the beige textiles, the beige tones in the artwork, and the beautiful oak peg rails next to the bed.

A wardrobe module on each side of the door provides this long and narrow bedroom with just enough storage space to keep the essential pieces of clothing in the bedroom.

A spacious hallway with lots of storage space

Since the bedroom is too small for adding a big wardrobe, the big hallway offers a great alternative for providing the apartment with lots of storage space. The Ikea PAX wardrobe modules are fitted with the same green doors as the ones in the bedroom and on each side of the modules, you can find an open bookshelf module great for displaying decor pieces or storing shoes.

CH004 Nesting tables: Hans Wegners’ design for flexible interiors

post

Nesting tables are such a versatile element for any interior, as you can easily re-arrange them to your needs. I live in a relatively small city apartment, which makes me on the lookout for the best space-saving storage solutions, or flexible furniture pieces to possibly optimize my interior and make the most out of a small surface.

My living room is quite narrow, which makes it a challenge to fit a large coffee table and I find myself switching around a lounge chair or a pouf depending on whether I have guests over or am getting ready for an evening watching my favorite series.

I recently got to try out the CH004 nesting tables designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1952, which offer a flexible combination of coffee and side tables, which can be used in any interior and I love the way you can combine them together or use them individually depending on your needs.

The CH004 nesting tables in soaped oak designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1952 for Carl Hansen & Søn

CH004 nesting tables produced by Carl Hansen & Søn

The CH004 nesting tables have a recognizable, classic Wegner minimalism ranging from the round, tapered legs, and classic mortise joints to the subtle curves for an organic and timeless appearance. Since the tables are so light and space-optimized, they are perfect for any interior.

The three different-size tables fit into each other smoothly and you can arrange them in many different ways. When I have guests over, I like to use two or three and make a little styling arrangement on them. When I use a pouf when watching TV, however, I like to just have one of them as a small coffee table and use the other two as a side table for a lamp.

Wegner’s Nesting tables have an air of lightness about them that makes it easy to reorganize them and create smaller zones within a room. For someone that likes to style and re-style so often, these are such a great solution.

Designed in 1952, the CH004 nesting tables are still relevant today

With the increased need for flexible interior solutions in the 1950s, nesting tables became popular and were in high demand. Hans J. Wegners’ designs can be recognized for their simplicity and functionality and his design of the nesting tables is no exception. Just like the rest of his design legacy, the nesting tables enhance any room through their harmonious and aesthetic dimensions and materials.

Today, the need for flexible and adaptable furniture solutions is more relevant than ever, making Wegners’ timeless nesting tables a perfect design classic for modern interiors.

Hans Wegner’s design legacy

Hans Wegner, the designer of the iconic Wishbone chair which has been in continuous production ever since it was brought to life in 1950, is considered one the most creative, innovative, and prolific Danish furniture designers. Wegner has created more than 500 chairs over his lifetime for which he earned the name ‘master of the chair’.

The Wehner legacy shows the inner soul of furniture pieces through a simple and functional interior, which is a recognizable element on the beautiful nesting tables as well.

Different material variations of the CH004 nesting tables

I picked out the nesting tables in soaped oak, which have a very light appearance and I love the way they stand out against the warm tones of the herringbone flooring in my apartment. The iconic design is available in natural oak (which Abi featured in her home), walnut, or an oak and walnut mix as well, which makes them truly adaptable to any interior.

*This blog post was written in collaboration with Carl Hansen & Son, however as always, my opinions are my own.

A renovated attic home with exposed beams and a sage-green kitchen

post

This spacious Swedish attic home has an abundance of natural light coming through the many skylights on the sloped roof. The minimal and modernized interior with white walls beautifully showcases the original wood beams and a sage-green kitchen takes center stage in the main living area.

The open-plan kitchen and living area are decorated in a modest color palette, from which the kitchen and the black dining chairs pop out. The bedroom on the other hand has an even more subtle color palette for a very modest and minimal appearance.

The kitchen module is built against the wall with the most ceiling height, allowing both upper and lower cabinets combined with a tall cupboard for the fridge to be included in the floor plan. The sage green cabinets are paired up with black hardware, a chrome faucet, and a beautiful beige limestone countertop to finish the look off.

Light beige walls and pops of color in a turn-of-the-century apartment

post

This gorgeous Swedish apartment has light beige walls throughout, with a few eye-catching pops of color and elegant decor pieces that enhance the unique interior design. The living room has a TV gallery wall, which subtly integrates this piece of electronics and gives it a unique spot on the wall.

The kitchen includes a breakfast nook and the bedroom has a wardrobe built over the bed for optimal storage opportunities. The design of this apartment stands out because of its beautiful custom cabinetry matched with some elegant vintage pieces and unique decor elements for a personalized look.

The beige living room walls are finished off with a wide white trim underneath the ceiling and warm beige linen curtains that frame the windows. The subtle color palette of the furniture pieces creates the perfect backdrop for a few colorful elements like the red TV bench, the blue Valerie Objects wall lamp, and the color variations in the art prints on the wall.

The TV is integrated into a gallery wall that spreads over the dining area as well. The combination of colors in the art print adds a unique effect to the beige walls and I love the pop of red in one of the art prints and on the TV bench.

Off-white kitchen cabinets with brass hardware

The galley kitchen space has antique white shaker cabinets combined with a dark stone countertop and beautiful brass hardware to finish the look off. The combination of tall cupboards with upper and lower cabinets fills the space with storage, however, by leaving the area close to the window free of upper cabinets, a lighter kitchen look is achieved.

The upper cabinets can be reached by placing a ladder (stored in the hallway) on the gold ladder rail. The niche space for the bed has two wall lamps as reading lamps and a small bedside niche has been carved out on each side of the storage modules.

19 Living room wainscoting ideas for the modern interior

post

Wainscoting is most often applied to high-traffic spaces like a mudroom, bathroom, stairway, foyer, or powder room, where beadboard paneling is quite common to protect the wall surface. Wainscoting can add such an elegant touch to living rooms as well though and can provide them with a classic look.

Take a look at the living room wainscoting ideas below if you are thinking about installing wainscoting in your interior. Some of the ideas are constructed with wood paneling, while others use small moldings attached to the wall.

Finish the look off with a tone-on-tone wall color, a darker or lighter tone, or even a striped wallpaper on top of the wainscoting if you are feeling adventurous.

White wainscoting combined with beige walls

The beautiful beige wall color is applied in between the wainscoting and the white crown molding underneath the ceiling. Since only the top portion of the walls is painted, the interior doesn’t get too dark considering the dark hardwood flooring.

The curtains and the pendant light in the middle of the space have a warm beige tone, which pairs up nicely with the warm grey tone on the walls.

The glass partition wall between the kitchen and living in this turn-of-the-century apartment has subtle wainscoting paneling applied to it, to make the new element fit within the old architectural details of the apartment.

This custom look works perfectly in combination with the historic glass doors and the grey marble fireplace in the corner of the living room. The new built-ins match perfectly with the time period of the historic elements in the space.

Tone-on-tone wainscoting matching the paint color on the walls

The walls and wainscoting in this gorgeous interior are painted in the same color for a tone-on-tone look that provides a subtle textural effect. The wainscoting takes up about one-third of the wall and a large white trim underneath the ceiling combined with the grey walls accentuates the room height of this interior.

When decorating this beautiful space, a mixture of antique and modern-style furniture was carefully selected to create an eclectic interior decor style that honors the historic elements in the house.

White wainscoting has been applied to the lower portion of the wall, adding clean lines to this playful living room.

This is probably one of the simplest wainscoting ideas on the list, as it features an all-white look and is paired up with a slightly darker color on the floor. The beautiful gallery wall above the sofa aligns on the bottom with the top of the wainscoting. The rest of the interior is kept quite minimal, to let the details shine.

Light grey walls combined with a darker tone on the wainscoting

Most of the wainscoting ideas in this list either include tone-on-tone or white wood paneling on the walls. In this beautiful interior, however, the wainscoting has been covered with a darker paint, which has a beautiful effect on the space.

The wainscoting is applied to every wall in this combined living and dining room, accentuating the size and angles in the floor plan.

Full-wall wainscoting in a spacious historic apartment

The combination of the wainscoting with the intricate molding and the overhead lighting in the same color provides this turn-of-the-century apartment with a custom look and accentuates the beautiful angled walls.

The combination of the modern marble cube tables and the curved sofa has a beautiful effect on this already stylish interior with soft wam grey paint on the walls.

The beautiful white board and batten paneling in this dining room is matched with intricate wood details in the ceiling, white crown molding, and beautiful historic doors and window frames for a majestic look.

The dining set includes a black oval table and metal dining chairs, which adds a modern and functional element to this classic dining room.

Simple wainscoting in a large space with angled walls

The subtle and simple design of the wainscoting enhances this beautiful interior and accentuates the angled walls leading up to the stained glass window, which is the real eye-catcher in this room.

The black wood and rattan storage cabinets and the black TV frame stand out against this light wall color, while the beige armchairs add a beautiful warm tone to the setting.

White wainscoting with contrasting blue walls

This is another one of those inspiring wainscoting ideas with a dark blue wall on the top half of the wall, resulting in a beautiful play between the wall paint and the wainscoting.

This white-soaped flooring and the white ceiling add a light and modern touch to the interior, while the dark wood tone of the vintage dining room table and chairs warms the look in a lovely way.

Grey wainscoting paired with beige living room walls

The balance created by the grey color on the wainscoting and the beige paint on the walls in this interior works in such a powerful way and accentuates the historic features of the building. Because of this powerful color combination, this is one of my personal favorite wainscoting ideas on this list.

Light grey walls and grey wainscoting

The grey wainscoting in the gorgeous historic living room is painted in the same color as the window and door frames for an integrated look. The wall above the wainscoting is painted in a lighter shade of grey, to accentuate the darker grey elements in the space.

Small apartment with a window between the kitchen and bedroom

post

This small apartment combines the kitchen, living, and sleeping functionalities into one single open-plan room. A new wall is constructed in between the kitchen and the bedroom and to allow light to flow freely into the space, an interior window is fitted inside this wall to connect both spaces together.

The white kitchen with beige pale wood countertops sets the stage for the modest color palette of the interior in this small studio apartment that includes tints of beige, white, and other natural colors.

The kitchen in this apartment is built on a relatively small surface and so the floor plan has to be optimized for enough storage opportunities. The peninsula kitchen island not only visually separates the kitchen from the living room area, but it also includes storage modules underneath.

The wall space above the sink is used for upper cabinets that go up to the ceiling, leaving out a small gap next to the wall for floating shelving. This ensures a lighter look and provides a great spot to display the prettiest kitchen items.

The white kitchen cabinets are paired up with a light wood countertop, chrome hardware, and a limestone backsplash that adds elegance to the otherwise simple materials used.

The long window in the kitchen wall looks out onto the bedroom and it allows daylight to flow into the kitchen section of the apartment as well.

A simple white and beige color palette in the living section

The white walls in the living room are enhanced with sheer beige curtains and subtle brown and beige tones in the accessories and textiles for a simple look that works in a calming way.

A round dining table provides ample space for having guests over for dinner and a simple gallery wall decorates the walls in matching tones and colors.

A small bedroom with beige walls and floating shelves inside a niche

Since the kitchen takes up a lot of floor space, the bedroom is rather small, fitting a small bed just barely. Since the bed is wedged in between the kitchen window and the apartment window, it doesn’t feel too cramped, however.

A niche behind the bed is turned into floating shelves which work great as a nightstand, for books, and for small decor pieces.

The beige walls of the bedroom are met by the white walls of the living room. The two wall colors visually separate the two functional areas from each other.

A small hallway with an optimized mudroom section

The small hallway, which can be reached when opening the curtain next to the kitchen, includes access to the bathroom and a small built-in mudroom section to hang jackets, place shoes, and a close storage module on top.

Black accent decor pieces in a cozy interior

post

In this simple Swedish apartment with white walls, you can find a variety of black accent decor pieces and furniture spread throughout each room. This ties together the design of the space and the contrast between the black and white elements looks great in this minimal interior design.

The spacious living room contains a sofa and a dining area and the smaller bedroom has a beautiful wardrobe built around the bed to optimize storage space on a relatively small surface.

The sofa area in front of the window is marked by the large beige area rug that covers almost this entire section. The white sofa forms the perfect backdrop for a combination of darker tones in the throw pillows and the dark oak coffee table stands out in this setting as well. The black accent decor throughout the space adds interest to this otherwise modest color palette and adds points of interest to the setting.

The elegant black round dining table stands out against the white walls in the living room. The table is paired up with beige textile dining room chairs with a black metal frame: a color palette that also comes back in the eye-catching fabric pendant centered above the table.

A small kitchen dining table in black

The white kitchen cabinets combined with the black countertops have a simple and basic design and follow the black and white color scheme present in the living room of the apartment. The simple black dining table adds a lovely spot to have coffee in the morning and the black rattan bentwood chairs match the look perfectly.

A white bedroom with a wardrobe over the bed

Rather than fitting a small wardrobe on the wall opposite the window, the owners of this beautiful apartment planned out the wardrobe over the bed to save space. This setup allows for the full space above the bed and underneath the ceiling to be utilized and creates a little niche space for the bed.

The wardrobe module is painted in the same off-white paint color as the walls for an integrated effect and is finished off with brass hardware for an elegant look. A floating shelf is added in between the two wardrobe modules on each side of the bed, which is the perfect spot to keep books and small deco items.

The black accent decor that stands out in the rest of the apartment also comes back in the throw pillows on the bed, the lamp and plantpot on the window sill, and the elegant vase on the floating shelf.
