Cool grey walls, many art pieces, and muted pink in the kitchen

post

This beautiful one-bedroom apartment in Sweden has a mixture of cool grey walls, combined with a nude pink kitchen wall color to add some warmth to the palette.

The three different wall colors: two different shades of cool gray walls and deep nude pink in the kitchen really enhance the interior design of the apartment, while the accessories and artwork picked out by the interior designer elevate the look of this small space.

Cool light gray walls in an art-filled living room

The living room features light gray walls with clear cool undertones, which almost look like light blue walls depending on which angle the daylight hits the walls. The cool undertones of the gray walls are warmed up by the many different wood tones in the hardwood floors, accessories, and furniture pieces.

Rather than opting for a feature wall, the entire living room has gray walls, highlighting the crown molding and the historic window and door frames which have been kept white.

The beige sofa adds warmth to the cool gray walls and the large fluffy area rug adds so much texture to the sofa area, while also reflecting more light coming from the windows. The beautiful mixture of throw pillows on the sofa brings variety to the color palette along with a selection of art prints on the wall.

The wall next to the sofa has been adorned with a beautiful gallery wall which gives so much character to the living room and the light gray is the perfect backdrop for this lovely combination of art pieces. The gallery wall is the main focal point of the entire apartment, which is finished off with two off-white boucle lounge chairs and a bar cart underneath. The TV is paired with art prints as well to make it blend in with the interior.

Nude pink wall colors in a basic white kitchen

The kitchen connects the bedroom and living room, which have both been painted grey with cool undertones. Painting the kitchen in a deep nude pink was a design choice that sets the rooms apart and adds a nice play between cool under warm hues to the space.

The kitchen itself is a basic model with white cabinets and stainless steel appliances, nothing special really, yet I think the wall paint color combined with the vintage round dining table really stands out against the nude pink walls. The neutral color palette of the dining room area combined with the wood peg rail on the wall really sets the kitchen space apart. The white area rug underneath the table, combined with the rice paper pendant and the sheer white curtains enhance the natural light coming through the kitchen window, a combination that highlights the deeper color of the wall paint.

A darker gray paint for more contrast in the bedroom

Just like in the living room, the interior design of the bedroom combines cool and warm tones for an interesting look. The bedroom has been painted in a darker gray, which has subtle cool undertones. To contrast the cool tones of the wall, a combination of textiles in warm tones is decorating the bed. The nude pink duvet cover on the bed has the same color as the kitchen walls, which ties both rooms together in an elegant way.

How to achieve a similar look in your own home

If you are trying to achieve the light grey color on the walls in the living room, try a light grey with cool undertones like Skylight* or light blue* from Farrow & Ball which is more of a light grey contrary to what the name suggests.

I you are looking for a nude pink paint color like the one that is used in the kitchen, you might want to try out a sample of Farrow & Ball’s Dead Salmon*.

Take a peek inside an impressive penthouse decorated in pastel tones

post

Pastel tones can make an interior look so characterful, soft, and inviting, which is exactly the resulting effect in this gorgeous penthouse apartment in Sweden. The mix of pastel colours with unique wall art and classic furniture pieces turns into a wonderful space with an eclectic touch that shows a lot of personality and character.

The pastel colors are what stand out most in this apartment, yet the architectural details of this beautiful penthouse are really quite something, to begin with. Just look at those high sloped ceilings with the exposed wood beams and the abundance of natural light that hits the widows of this two-level home.

Pale pink and pastel hues in the living room

While the walls in this spacious living space have been kept white, the furniture and soft furnishings have a beautiful pastel color palette that brightens up the space. The living area is softened out by the Flower field patterned wool rug from Layered, which adds tones of pink, red, and a touch of buttery yellow to the space.

The art pieces on the open shelving combined with the wall art and the throw pillows in pastel colors turn this living room into a characterful space with a soft look.

Classic furniture pieces in a bold-colored dining room

The dining room is nestled into the niche area of the large living space, which kind of makes it feel like it’s in its own room. The white marble oval Saarinen dining table combined with the Panthella floor lamp are classic pieces that are enhanced with a mixture of brighter hues Vitra Panton chairs in white, pink, and mint green, resting on a round light purple area rug.

The focal point in the dining room however is the scalloped mirror by Gustav Westman which stands out so nicely against the white walls and follows many design trends. The dining rooms I see tend to either be playful or classy, yet this unique setup combines both with great style.

A greige kitchen enhanced with pretty patterns

While the main interior design is all about pastel colors in the rest of this rather eclectic apartment, the color palette of the attic kitchen is more modest with a light greige color on the kitchen cabinets combined with a beige natural stone. The same color combination is used on the custom-built kitchen island as well, which is more of a bar-type kitchen dining table with beautiful patterns on the upholstered bar chairs.

The white walls and ceiling combined with the light palette of the kitchen itself really make the aged exposed wood beams stand out in such a lovely way.

A mint green bar in a winter garden leading up to the balcony

The winter garden connects to the beautiful and spacious penthouse balcony. Inside you can find a custom-built bar module that has been covered in green pastel paint and enhanced with a custom mirror to reflect the bottles, which is a nice touch.

The same bar chairs as in the kitchen are placed by the bar, where just like in the kitchen, they add unique accents to the space.

A deep purple Togo in a room solely for lounging

Next to the living room, there is a separate lounge room behind a glass partition. I’m not sure why this apartment has two rooms with a sofa right next to each other, but the design scheme and color setup match perfectly with the adjacent living room.

The deep purple colorway of the Togo sofa adds another contrasting tone to the pastel colors in the space and enhances the interior design of the apartment in a subtle yet powerful way.

A bedroom with a purple wall

To match the pastel colors in the rest of the apartment, the bedroom has a purple accent wall combined with a light purple area rug underneath the bed, a deep green scalloped headboard, and a combination of pastel yellow, pastel blue, pink, and red tones on the beautifully patterned blanket. The bed is placed in the cozy nook underneath the sloped ceiling, which makes it such a snug spot to get a good night’s sleep.

A bathroom with a pink accent wall

The two bathrooms in this apartment are decorated in different ways: there’s a pastel version and a minimal and clean bathroom style in the penthouse. The small guest bathroom with the washing machine has light purple, pink, and mint accent walls, which brighten up the basic components, while the main bathroom has a very clean look enhanced with a dark floor and wood accents. The look of the bathroom stands in sharp contrast with the rest of the pastel interior design.

A pastels interior design as a red thread through the entire penthouse apartment

The pastel colors in this apartment can be found throughout the interior design and they give you a warm welcome as soon as you step into this spacious penthouse. I think it’s wonderful; how the combination of pastel blue, yellow, pink, and green can have such a playful and inviting effect in the space. Even though it’s quite daring to go for a look like this, with pastels that often remind of children’s rooms, it can certainly brighten up the look of an interior.

If you want to introduce pastel colors in your home yet you don’t want to go as far as decorating the entire interior with it, you can always try out just a hint of pastel colors in an otherwise neutral color palette.

I find pastels usually go best with a lighter base palette so that the contrast between two elements is softened out. Think of a few pastels in the throw pillows on a light sofa in the living room, or wall art with pastels against off-white or ivory walls. You can always play with mixing in geometric shapes, metallic accents, and different materials to make the look more interesting and less playful as well.

Different shades of gray paint in a turn-of-the-century Swedish home

post

The interior design of this beautiful turn-of-the-century home in Sweden is based around a color palette of dark and light grey walls combined with a variety of different wood tones and a neutral color palette for a subtle yet interesting effect.

A kitchen with light gray walls, gray kitchen cabinets, stainless steel appliances and a oak dining table and chairs

A classic gray kitchen with stainless steel appliances and wood accents

The classic shaker-style kitchen cabinetry in light grey is placed in an L-shaped layout in the large kitchen space, with upper cabinets only on the wall furthest away from the window for a light and airy effect.

The stainless steel appliances, chrome faucet, and chrome cabinet pulls match the light gray palette of the cabinet fronts and as with most gray kitchens, this design also benefits from warm neutrals in the palette to add some life to the interior design.

The wood open shelving stands out nicely against the light gray walls and they additionally offer a great spot for placing pretty objects in the kitchen. They are a great alternative to classic spice racks. The marble countertops are extended to a low backsplash that gets higher behind the stove, where it’s most necessary.

The hardwood floors in the kitchen already add a certain warmth to the space, which is enhanced in the dining area by the oak wood dining table and the J39 dining chairs in light oak. The Formakami paper shade lamp* and the top of the dining table match the white paint on the ceiling and on the crown molding, which is a refreshing touch.

Light gray walls and wood tones in the living room

While the walls in the kitchen have been painted in a very light grey, the living room has gray walls that are a bit darker and have cool undertones, with white crown molding, and window and door frames that stand out so much against this wall color.

The hardwood floors continue from the kitchen into the living room and a large doorway connects both spaces, allowing more light to flow freely. Just like in the kitchen and dining room, the gray walls have been warmed up with wood pieces all throughout the space. The clean lines of the open shelving add warm hues to the cool undertones on the gray walls and the white area rug and lounge chairs add a lovely texture to the setting.

A dark gray sofa has been decorated with a mix of throw pillows in natural colors, which makes the living room appear soft and inviting, yet I think the real focal point in this living room is the dark wood vintage cabinets which stand out against the perfect backdrop the gray walls provide.

Darker grey walls in the bedroom

The bedroom has been painted in a shade of gray that’s even a few tones darker than the wall paint in the living room. The natural light is softened out by the off-white linen curtains by the windows and the white accents continue in the white bedding, in the bed skirt, in the fabric pendant, and in the white cabinets of the wardrobe.

The hallway features the same color as in the kitchen, which has been accompanied by beautiful wood tints in the door, in the antique wardrobe, and on the herringbone hardwood floors. These dark wood tones add depth to this small space, while the crystal chandelier adds a classic touch.

In the entire apartment, rather than using a feature wall, the interior designer or owner of the apartment always opted to paint the entire room in gray for a more impressive effect without the need for a white wall next to it to balance the look out.

A Swedish house decorated in warm neutrals and wood tones

post

This beautiful Swedish home on two levels is painted a with subtle light gray paint color all throughout the interior in the different rooms. The decor is modest, yet shines in its simplicity and elegance.

A living room in a brown and beige palette

The subtle light grey walls and dark wood flooring in the living room have been decorated with a beige fabric sofa, an off-white area rug that lightens up the hardwood flooring, and a dark wood coffee table with matching side tables in a minimal design.

The throw pillows on the sofa are picked out in a mix of browns and beiges, which matches the color palette of the space perfectly. Black accents in the table lamps, artwork, and accessories add a contrasting elegance to the living room and the fiddle fig tree is a nice finishing touch.

A light grey kitchen and black outlines on the dining furniture

Adjacent to the living room, you can walk into a minimal kitchen with light grey cabinets, chrome hardware, a chrome faucet, and white marble countertops.

The dark wood dining table goes in line with the color and material palette of the living room and the white fabric chairs have a black metal outline that is matched by the beautiful black and white pendant light above the table.

A classy bedroom, home office, and bathroom

The second level of this beautiful house follows the same minimal design aesthetics as in the living kitchen, with hardwood flooring matched by a subtle color on the wall and a neutral palette in the furniture and soft furnishings.

The bedroom has been decorated with beige curtains and a beige headboard that go nicely with the light greige wall paint on the wall. The beige striped pillows add a lovely pattern effect to the bed and the white structured area rug adds a beautiful soft texture to the room.

The bathroom is completely tiled with white marble tiles for an elegant effect that is enhanced by the minimal white bathroom furniture.

A tiny apartment with sage green walls

post

This tiny apartment has one main room, where a sofa area, bedroom, and dining table are combined into a single space. You enter the apartment through the small kitchen, yet the biggest room is also the one with the most impressive color palette as it features beautiful sage green walls that brighten up the apartment and highlight the natural light that comes in.

Have a look at this apartment if you are looking for a warmer shade of subtle sage green and a dark sage green bedroom, or have a look at this blog post if you are looking for sage green kitchen inspiration especially. I recently wrote up a blog post with my top selection of stylish small studio apartments which gives you a great overview.

A sage green paint color in the main living space

The floor and ceiling of this apartment are painted white, which is a great choice, as it makes the rooms appear bigger than they are. To add interest to the space, a soft sage green paint color was used on the walls of the living space, adding so much interest and character to this small room with shared functionality.

The sage green pairs up so nicely with the warm elements in the fabrics, leather dining chairs, light wood furniture, and the warm beige fabric pendant light above the coffee table. The blue undertones in the sage green color add a cool touch to the space, which is contrasted by all the warm naturals in the details.

The white fabric sofa, combined with the structured white area rug and the white-painted vintage cabinet next to the bed form the perfect basis for the subtle green on the walls and the warm tones in the details. The area rug looks great paired up with the sofa but also serves as a visual separator of the different functional areas.

The bed has been made with a combination of white linen bedsheets, beige throw pillows, and a wood open cabinet at the end of the bed, which warms up the cool undertones of the sage green walls. The green branches on the bedside table bring out the fresh element in the sage green paint color.

In the dining area, the sage green works beautifully with the light wood dining table, the leather chairs, and the dark green tones inside of the art print on the wall. I love sage green combined with a different shade of green, dark, or light for a tone-on-tone effect.

A separate kitchen combined hallway with a small dining table

Next to the sage green living area, you can find a small kitchen where the walls have been kept white for a more neutral look. Also here you can find a combination of warm materials: the wood folding table, leather chair, and hemp rug really warm up the all-white kitchen. While I could have imagined the kitchen with sage green paint on the walls as well, it kind of makes the color choice on the interior walls in the living room more special.

Sage green paint colors to try out a swatch from

Try out a swatch of Farrow & Ball Teresa’s green* for a fresh sage green with blue undertones, or go for Farrow & Ball Cooking apple green* if you want to avoid the blue undertones and go for a warmer look that still has the impressive character sage green can add to an interior.

Always try out a swatch of sage green paint colors in the space, as the daylight a room gets can highly influence the undertones that appear. A sage green bedroom can be a great alternative for other cool color palettes often recommended for a bedroom as it’s a bit more subtle and sophisticated.

The Japandi-style family house of a Norm Architects designer

post

Frederik Werner is a designer and partner at Norm Architects. He lives with his family in a beautiful brick villa from 1917, which he transformed into a minimal home with clean lines, Japandi furniture, a mix of natural materials, and a clear hint of Japanese aesthetics mixed in with Scandinavian interior design elements: Japandi interior design.

This Japandi-style interior results in a calm atmosphere for his family that highlights the honest material qualities of the oak wood, soft fabrics, and rice paper lampshades used in the space. The natural light in this home is enhanced and softened by the limewash paint which has been used on all the walls in the entire house.

Japandi interior design is based on a combination of Japanese and Scandinavian design principles and has been gaining quite some popularity over the last few years.

Natural materials in the kitchen and dining area

Natural elements in the Profile kitchen from Reform

The kitchen has a very elegant, minimal aesthetic where the oak wood fronts and countertop are allowed to shine in their simplicity. The kitchen fronts are Profile designed by Norm Architects for Reform, which have a Scandinavian design presence that mixes both light wood and a thin metal strip at the handle for a simple effect with a functional presence. The matching butcher block countertops in the same oak material finish the kitchen design off perfectly.

A dining area where Japanese and Scandinavian styles meet

The dining area follows the Japandi style elegance of the kitchen with a dining table and dining chairs, both from Karimuko case study, in oak on a beautiful wood floor. The simple bench which has the same Japanese style elegance as the dining table provides a setting for displaying books and art and both above the bench as well as above the dining table you can find a rice-paper lamp, so typical in Japanese interiors.

In both the kitchen and the dining area, it’s the mix of natural materials, warm neutral tones, and natural light that accentuate the Japandi style element in the interior.

A modest Japandi-style living room with rich dark brown wood

While the kitchen and dining area make use of a mixture of wood in a lighter color palette, in the living room, you can find mostly dark wood in the furniture pieces, combined with a neutral palette of marble, linen, and the same light wood flooring as in the dining room.

The clean lines are enhanced by the dark color palette in this living space, while the mix of Japanese and Scandinavian design pieces makes the space look high-end and sophisticated, as Japanadi furniture tends to do.

Japandi interior design in the bedroom and bathroom

Both the attic bedroom and the bathroom are located underneath the roof, which the exposed wood beams in the bedroom highlighting the architectural integrity of the house. The bedroom has been kept very simple, yet the addition of natural materials and light wood matches the natural elements in the architecture, which is a strong design element in itself.

How to incorporate Japandi interior design principles in your own home

Both Scandinavian and Japanese interior design practices are based upon the same minimalist principles where natural elements, simple lines, natural materials, and neutral colors are mixed into a balanced setting.

Scandinavian interior design styles are based upon the celebration of bright spaces and natural light, as it’s a culture with very little of it, especially during winter months. Light palettes tend to reflect the light, which is why they are so common in Scandinavian design.

When creating a Japandi interior design, focus on highlighting the natural light that flows into a room and work with natural colors and materials mixed with elegant furniture pieces with clean and simple lines for a minimalistic effect that is rich in texture.

Interior novelties for spring 2023

post

Wondering what’s new and noteworthy in the interior world? I have made a summary of all novelties I figured are worth sharing in this post, which will be updated as more new collections trickle in after the numerous fairs that are coming up in the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

Vipp Lodge lounge chair in white sheepskin

The Vipp Lodge lounge chair, previously released in their collection is now available in an off-white colorway. The clam-shaped shell of the chair floats onto the dark solid oak wood legs in a seamlessly organic way and the new sheepskin finish softly embraces the body.

The Lodge series consists of a dining chair, lounge chair, and footstool and was originally designed for the Vipp lodge, one of the hotel concepts of the brand (you can see two other of their hotel concepts here and here).

Superfront introduces Japandi inspired Takami shelf collection

You might know Superfront for their custom cabinet front solutions to update different models of Ikea modular cabinets. Now they also introduced their own line of shelving systems called Takami, which is inspired by Japanese artisanal design tradition and a “less is more” approach to design. The shelf comes in different sizes and colorways and matches a collection of furniture legs in the same aesthetic.

Nuura releases Sasi: a collection of wall lamps

The Sasi wall lamps by the hand of Dutch designer Rick Tegelaar for Nuura feature a soft design language and a material selection that creates reflections of the surroundings and light in the room.

New Works releases the Kizu portable lamp in 2 two red marble variants

The Kizu lamp made its way into many homes over the past years and became a staple piece in many Scandinavian interiors. After releasing a portable version of the lamp last year, New Works is now expanding the collection with two red marble variants: Breccia Pernice marble brings to mind the earthy hues of the Mediterranean and Rosso Levanto marble, which oozes dark romance.

101 Copenhagen expands its collection of organic interior pieces

Among smaller accessory releases, Danish design brand 101 Copenhagen introduced two new furniture pieces to their sculptural collection of elements for the modern interior.

The Toe lounge chair

‘Toe’ is a lounge chair with references to futuristic design pieces from the seventies. The sculptural approach that is so characteristic of the brand is showcased in the design aesthetic of this comfortable chair with tick-fluted upholstery with a linear and voluminous shape.

The Tribu collection

Tribu is a collection containing a bench and stool made of a concrete base combined with a linen cushion top characterized by lamellas in the concrete giving the pieces a distinct look that plays with the contrast between clean lines and soft curves.

  • Sculptural furniture pieces from 101 Copenhagen inspired by 1970's futuristic designs

Watt & Veke introduces a new collection of pendants and table lamps

You might know Watt & Veke from their paper Christmas star collection (featured in this Christmas styling in my home), however, they also make regular lighting fixtures that are subtle in design, yet impactful in any interior. They recently expanded this collection of understated fixtures and a few of these pieces are high on my wish list.

Menu space reintroduces Mogens Lassen’s Jäger Lounge Table

For the design of the Jäger table in 1941, Mogens Lassen took inspiration from the folding stools and beds found in an Egyptian tomb. The design was a proposal for a commission for the personal home of a merchant called Jäger, however, it was never put into production. Now Menu introduced this rediscovered archival design in their collection after researching the original sketches and making sure the table meets modern durability needs.

Muuto releases the Couple coffee table

Belgian designer Sylvain Willenz created the Couple table, recently released into the latest collection of Danish design brand Muuto. The Couple table is inspired by traditional tile tables and features both wood and ceramic stoneware tiles in a new and modern interpretation of this traditional furniture piece.

The design allows the user to pick between tiles with a smooth surface or a soft wavy look, which results in a personalized, tactile coffee table design.

Ikea teams up with designer Sabine Marceli for the design of the Varmblixt collection

Rotterdam-based designer Sabine Marceli created a collection of accessories and light fixtures for Ikea called Varmblixt which highlights the necessary functionality of light, yet also the opportunity it creates to change the mood and atmosphere of a space.

Vipp pencil case: an artistic getaway in an old pencil factory

post

Right across the bridge from the Copenhagen city center, you can find Danish design company Vipp’s 5th exclusive hotel concept located in a Bauhaus-inspired building from the 1930s that used to hold a pencil factory.

You can read about two other Vipp concept hotel rooms in my other blog posts about the Vipp shelter and the Vipp Chimney house.

An eclectic mix of art pieces and modern furniture

The 90m2 art-filled apartment can be found on the ground floor of the old factory building. The interior is designed by Julie Cloos Mølsgaard and is a heaven for the design-conscious, which should feel more like an atelier rather than a hotel.

In the apartment, you can find a mixture of art pieces combined with the Vipp furniture collection and a fully equipped Vipp kitchen.

The grey V1 Vipp kitchen in the pencil case design hotel

A living kitchen with a large dining table

In the center of the living kitchen, right in front of those industrial factory windows, you can find a large Cabin dining table with a wood base and a Jura limestone countertop. The dining room look has been completed with cabin dining chairs in light oak with a leather seat and the paper pendant centered above the table.

The warm tones of the leather, wood, and limestone add a lot of texture to the light oak hardwood flooring and the unique ceramic pieces on the table and window sills complete the look.

The V1 kitchen in light grey matches the soft and subtle color palette of the space. The grey wall lamps and stainless steel countertops give the kitchen a tone-on-tone look, while as the black pedal bin and the colorful cutting boards add a contrasting touch.

A light-flooded bedroom

When walking through those sliding doors from the kitchen into the bedroom, you notice that the color of the hardwood floors is changing. The darker wood tone in the bedroom gives this space a warm feeling, which is contrasted by the light color artwork and bedding and the beautiful white pouf by the end of the bed.

the black side tables and the table lamps add further contrast and I like how the simple lines of the lamps play with the rough lines on the artwork.

27 kitchens with white cabinets to be inspired by

post

Choosing white cabinets for the design of your kitchen is probably the safest bet you can make when you want a kitchen that is timeless. When you pick out a high-quality kitchen and opt for a white color palette, it can last for years to come. You can always update the faucet and the hardware to give it a slightly updated look over time when needed.

While it’s probably the safest choice, it doesn’t mean a white kitchen design has to be boring. Below you can find my top picks of kitchens in white, ranging from a traditional to a more modern kitchen design, from custom cabinets to Ikea models and many different layouts to be inspired by.

My top 26 favorite white kitchen cabinet ideas

Minimal white cabinets with black hardware and marble countertops

This well-designed, minimal white kitchen is built inside a turn-of-the-century apartment with intricated details in the architecture. The crown moldings, curved windows, and herringbone hardwood flooring are toned down by the subtle interior design of the kitchen.

The white marble on the countertops and on the impressive kitchen island with the built-in gas stove is a true show-stopper in this large kitchen.

No upper cabinetry is used throughout the design, yet a large module has been placed on the wall opposing the windows. The black hardware and faucet contrast with the white cabinetry, which also comes back in the ceiling lamp and the ceramic vases on the counter.

Off-white shaker kitchen with a limestone countertop and a breakfast bar

Rather than going for a crisp white, off-white cabinetry can often have a softer effect on the interior design of a kitchen. The white wall color combined with the dark wood flooring and the beige limestone countertop has a very warm effect in the kitchen that has been toned down by the chrome hardware and the stainless steel hood.

The corner layout of the kitchen offers a lot of storage space on a small surface, while the kitchen island offers the possibility of a breakfast bar.

The real contrasting piece in this beautiful white kitchen is the beautiful vintage wood dining table, which adds so a different texture to the space.

White cabinets and floating marble shelving underneath a sloped ceiling

The minimal white cabinetry in this kitchen by interior designer WTP studios with sloped ceilings has been enhanced by grey marble on the countertops, and on the sloped wall for such an impressive effect. The grey marble has also been used as floating shelves above the sink.

Minimal white cabinets with wall-to-wall floating shelving

I love the way the hood has been built into the layout of this small kitchen with white floors, walls, and ceilings. The hood has been built into a cabinet and has been matched with floating shelves on each side for an integrated effect.

The limestone countertops and the black wall lamp add just the right amount of warmth and contrast to this otherwise white space, while the dark palette of the small round dining table and chairs also adds visual interest to all the white surfaces.

Minimal white kitchen with a zellige tile backsplash and wood finishes

The design of these kitchen cabinets might be minimal, yet the addition of the zellige tiles as a backsplash going all the way up to the ceiling makes this kitchen so interesting. The tiles provide a textured yet neutral backdrop to the limestone counters and the round marble dining table combined with the J39 dining chairs complete the look nicely.

White cabinetry without hardware for a minimal look

The minimal kitchen cabinetry has the same off-white color as the wall for a tone-on-tone look contrasted by the black faucet and wall lamps. Minimal white shaker cabinet doors without hardware for a minimal yet classy

look

The classic cabinetry in this off-white kitchen designed by Lotta Agaton doesn’t have any cabinet hardware, which makes this sleek design minimal yet classic. The layout consists mostly of lower cabinetry, which is enhanced by a minimal floating shelf above the sink.

The closed cabinets of the minimal kitchen are joined by a cabinet with a glass front and oak wood inlay which goes perfectly with the large oak dining table and benches by the window. I love that the color scheme of the kitchen cabinets matches that of the walls and ceiling, while the wood tones in the dining area match the color of the hardwood flooring.

Grey walls and a light grey shaker kitchen in a Scandinavian apartment

post

I’m so amazed by the interior design of this beautiful Swedish apartment. The beautiful light grey shaker kitchen is the focal point of this home and the palette of the living room and bedroom match this setting perfectly with their grey walls, beautiful natural light coming in, and the beige and white color palette to enhance the decor.

A light grey shaker kitchen with stainless steel appliances and off-white walls

Light gray cabinets with stainless steel appliances and cabinet hardware

I think this kitchen has such an interesting color palette. It’s a bit lighter than the gray kitchens you usually see, yet it also doesn’t have white cabinets like a lot of the kitchen inspiration out there. The cabinet color is a very light and subtle gray with green undertones that contrast in such a subtle manner with the off-white wall and the white countertops in this L-shaped layout.

The white marble countertops and low marble backsplash add clean lines to the shaker kitchen cabinetry and the stainless steel exhaust and hardware add a subtle finish to the space. The black faucet and the black wall lamp finish off the design and add depth as well as contrast to the space.

A dining room with warm wood tones as part of the kitchen

The dining area finishes off the interior design of the kitchen and the wood dining table and chairs add so much warmth to the color palette. The wood peg rail finishes off this dining corner beautifully and I love the colorful accents in the green plants that bring out the green undertones in the kitchen cabinets even more.

Gray walls in a natural palette living room

The neutral color palette in the living room accentuates the sophisticated look the gray walls add to the space, while the warm hues of the rattan lounge chair and the wood tones in the coffee table warm up the light gray of the walls. The white-soaped hardwood floors soften the look even more.

Since the kitchen is adjacent to the living room, it is crucial that the color palette of the living room matches the one of the gray kitchen. The two palettes are different in shade, yet they go so well together.

Beige and off-white fabrics balance out the light gray walls

Gray walls can sometimes look a bit boring, yet by playing with the cool and warm undertones in the paint, you can achieve an interesting effect, something that is often used by an interior designer as well.

The white fabric sofa (It’s an Ikea sofa with a Bemz customer cover*) in soft linen has been decorated with a series of throw pillows in different shades of natural linen* for a textured effect that is enhanced by the beautifully textured area rug.

The black stained oval mirror on the wall adds a decorational element to the wall above the sofa, but it also reflects the kitchen, which is a nice touch.

A living room with light grey walls, a white linen sofa, oval mirror, structured area rug, wood coffee table, rattan lounge chair

A built-in low bookcase for a finished effect

Rather than placing a furniture piece next to the sofa, the owners of this home went through the trouble of building a custom solution that is lifted off the hardwood floors and has been painted in the same gray wall color for an integrated effect.

Even though this apartment doesn’t have crown molding, it does have elaborate baseboards that have also been applied to the built-in bookcase.

A living room with light grey walls, a white linen sofa, built-in low bookcase

Light gray walls and the same gray paint on the wardrobe in the bedroom

The gray walls in the bedroom have also been applied to the built-in wardrobe, which has been built into the space in a similar way as the bookcase in the living room. The floorboards have been applied to the bottom of the wardrobe and the bedroom walls have been painted up until the top of the wardrobe, creating the visual illusion of crown molding and seamlessly integrating the wardrobe into the space.

The linen curtains, white bedding, and beige blanket enhance and warm up the color palette in a similar way as in the living room, which ties the interior design of both spaces together.

Just like in the dining room, wooden furniture is added in the bedroom for a warm and textural effect. The gray walls form the perfect backdrop for a small home office corner with a wood desk and wood chair.
