White walls and subtle decor in a one-bedroom apartment

post

The subtle decor in this small one-bedroom apartment in Sweden works so nicely against the white walls and makes the space appear bigger than it actually is. The main room in the apartment contains a sofa section, a sleeping area, and a small home office spot, without it feeling crowded and this is mainly because of the light color palette and the subtle decor in the space.

Natural tones and subtle decor in the sofa area

The sofa area is marked by a beautiful wall rug above it, which adds so much texture to the white walls. The Ikea Soderhamn sofa with a Bemz custom cover* works nicely with the off-white area rug and the round oak wood coffee table adds a beautiful warm tone to the setting.

An Ikea Malm dresser is used as a sideboard in the living room, while also offering ample storage space for clothes since this room also has a sleeping area.

A stylish sleeping area with a gallery wall and lots of textiles

Even though the bed stands relatively close to the other functional areas in this one room, it’s visually separated from the other areas by wedging the bed in between a gallery wall and a small wooden bedside table. The warm color palette in the textiles and the prints enhance the white palette of the bedsheets and the walls, while the wall lamp adds the perfect reading light above the bed.

A home office spot in natural tones

Right next to the sofa, you can find a small home office spot made out of an Ikea Lisabo desk in light wood and an &Tradition Pavillion chair in walnut wood with a black frame. I love the way the light and the dark wood complement each other against the white walls.

The standing mirror reflects the home office spot and makes the space appear bigger.

A simple white kitchen and a cozy dining area

The kitchen is simple, yet the accessories make it look interesting and personal. The white subway tile backsplash combined with the white cabinets and the black countertop gives the space a contrasting look, while the open shelving adds a nice spot to display accessories.

The small round HAY Copenhagen dining table combined with the white Ant chairs blend into the white plank floors, while the wood detailing on the table legs and the single bentwood chair adds a soft tone to the setting.

The black Flowerpot pendant above the table adds a lovely point of contrast that also comes back in the elegant art print on the wall. Part of the original kitchen that used to be in the apartment is also still present and I love the play between vintage and new in the two kitchen modules.

The peg rail by the dining table is a stylish visual element against the white walls, makes for a subtle decor and you can use it to store pretty kitchen essentials: win-win.

A green living room and a blue bedroom

post

The green living room takes up all the attention in this beautiful Swedish apartment. Along with the blue wall color in the bedroom and the warm yellow paint color in the hallway, the variety of wall colors is what makes this apartment one-of-a-kind.

Neutral furniture pieces and accessories against green living room walls

The green living room wall color immediately stands out in this beautiful space. Apart from the wall color though, the living room decor has been kept very modest and in neutral tones.

The white fabric sofa, combined with the light wood coffee table, white area rug, and the wood tones in the other furniture lighten up the warm hardwood flooring, while the green walls add a fresh touch to the space.

The vintage table by the window stands out very nicely against the rich wall color and the beige tones in the artwork pop right out of the paint on the walls.

The living room includes a small white round dining table combined with classic Artek 66 dining chairs. The white open shelving matches the dining table and the brown and beige tints in the artwork on the wall warms up the palette in this corner.

Green shiplap walls in the kitchen

The same color palette as in the living room also comes back in the kitchen, where the shiplap walls have been painted in the same green color. The open shelving holding cups above the dining table has also been painted in the same green for an integrated look.

The bedroom has a beautiful blue wall color which adds a cool tone to the bedroom. This cool tone is contrasted with subtle brown tones in the accessories and in the artwork above the bedside table, while the red table by the window adds a beautiful pop of color.

A warm yellow wall color brings out the dark wood tones in the hallway pieces

The hallway, from which all rooms and thus all wall colors can be seen, has been painted in a more subtle yellow paint color that complements the rich wall colors used in both the bedroom and living room.

The yellow wall color brings out the darker brown tones in the wood of the side table and the coat rack, while the white doors and ceilings stand out nicely against this darker wall color.

The blue wall color that was used in the bedroom also comes back on the walls of the small built-in closet which can be accessed from the hallway. By painting this section of the apartment in a color as well, all the walls have a rich color tone for a characterful effect.

Light grey walls with white trim in a subtle interior

post

The light grey walls with white trim in this apartment set the perfect scene for a subtle decor that looks characterful and stylish at the same time. The subtle black accents and light wood tones combined with a great selection of art prints on the wall work so nicely against the barely-there grey wall color and the white-soaped hardwood flooring.

A living room with light grey walls with white trim, modest decor, neutral warm color palette

The white fabric Ikea Soderhamn sofa with a custom Bemz slipcover* combined with the structured white area rug covering a large section of the flooring in the living room provide the space with a white canvas for the round black coffee table and subtle colors in throw pillows on the sofa.

The light grey walls set the white trim and the white ceiling apart in a subtle way and also make the white fabrics in the space more apparent.

The light wood daybed fills the space in front of the windows. The wood tones of the flooring and daybed pair up so nicely together.

The beige and brown tones in the art prints jump out in front of the light grey wall color and match the color palette of the mix of throw pillows on the sofa.

The black and gold wall lamp finishes off the living room look nicely and adds a focal point to the wall behind the sofa.

A white bookshelf combined with a large round mirror on the wall opposite of the sofa reflects the space nicely, while the black metal border of the mirror adds a bit of contrast.

A cozy dining area combining light and dark wood tones

The light wood of the hardwood flooring has been continued on the beautiful round dining table and two of the dining chairs for a soft and warm look and feel matched by the soft pastel tones in the artwork on the wall. The light wood tones are contrasted by two bentwood chairs in dark wood tones to add interest to the look.

The bedroom shares a similar color palette as the living room, yet with more grey tones on the bed and dark wood tones in the furniture. The deep blue artwork above the bed adds a beautiful contrast to the light grey walls and the beige curtains warm up the daylight coming through the bedroom windows.

Studio apartment dividers: 9 ways to separate living and sleeping areas

post

When you live in a small studio apartment, you have to get creative with how you decorate. From selecting a color palette that makes it seem like you have more square footage available, to selecting smaller and functional furniture pieces and finding the right studio apartment dividers to create the appearance of a separate living space and bedroom area.

A curtain on a ceiling track as a room divider

A curtain is one of the easiest studio apartment dividers you can implement and it’s also the most flexible one. You can easily create separation by closing the curtain when you need it and allowing natural light to flow freely into the space when you leave the curtains open.

A shelving unit to separate an open floor plan

The living room and bedroom area in this studio apartment is separated by open shelving that functions as a room divider and lets through some of the daylight coming into the living room.

The bottom half of the bookshelf is solid and functions as a headboard for the bedroom area that includes two sockets. Because of the high ceilings, the bookshelf is continued over the two entryways going over the bed.

A folding screen as a room divider in an open space

A foldable screen is probably one of the most flexible room dividers, as it can be folded when it’s not needed or moved around for a flexible way of separating different functional areas in the interior.

Folding screens come in a variety of designs and you can pick out a room divider that fits the color palette and style of your studio apartment.

A canopy to visually divide a studio apartment

I always find a bed canopy a bit magical and it adds such an impressive style element to any interior. While this type of room divider works best with higher ceilings, it adds the impression of separation without actually fencing off a functional area.

Add a temporary wall as a room divider

Adding a temporary wall requires a bit more structural changes to your studio apartment, yet along with a glass partition, it’s a room divider that has the most finished result. You can add the wall so the newly created nook fits the bed exactly for a seamless look.

Use a glass partition as a room divider that lets the daylight through

Glass partitions are great room dividers, as they separate the living space visually, while still allowing for the daylight to flow freely throughout the space. You can place a fixed glass room divider combined with curtains just like in this studio apartment, or you can add sliding doors to enter the sleeping area.

Use an existing nook as a sleeping space

This is an easy room divider solution, but your floor plan has to be made for it from the beginning. Existing nooks make for a great bedroom area and there is no need to add an extra room divider.

You can go a little further and paint the nook in a different color than the rest of the studio apartment to make the separation more apparent.

Strategically placed furniture pieces make great room dividers

Storage units and furniture pieces are always a necessity, especially in small studio apartments where every piece of clutter is easily noticed. By placing your wardrobe or clothing rack in a strategic spot so it can act as a room divider, you combine two functionalities into one.

Use under-bed storage to elevate the bed from the rest of the studio apartment

You can visually separate your sleeping space from your living room by adding under-bed storage to your bed. This places the bed higher than the other furniture, like the dining area in this apartment, and it will naturally look and feel more separated.

Stylish flat with a greige paint color

post

This beautiful light-flooded apartment has a greige paint color on most of the walls in the different rooms, giving the interior a soft look that goes so nicely with the light hardwood flooring, the white trim, and the white used on the door and window frames.

A dining area in front of a large window in a living room with greige walls

A greige paint color on the walls in the living room accentuates the brown fireplace

The beautiful greige paint color on the walls in the living room adds a subtle warmth to the interior that brings out the beautiful details in the brown historic fireplace. The white sofa combined with beige and brown accessories and throw pillows match this warm palette, while the green plants add a fresh touch.

The greige paint color doesn’t go all the way up to the ceiling, leaving a white trim that seems to be about as high as the floorboards. The white Ikea Besta cabinet stands out against this wall color, while the brown tones in the armchair and decor pieces add a bit more depth to the palette.

The dining table in front of the main window in the living room is the ideal spot for having dinner, as it gets those beautiful rays of sunlight.

A modest white kitchen with a subway tile backsplash

The kitchen is a bit dated, yet with the addition of the white subway tile backsplash and the solid wood countertops it can stand the test of time. The plants and botanical art prints on the wall next to the window add a nice touch and cozy up this kitchen design.

Subtle and lighter greige paint color in a light palette bedroom

The greige bedroom walls are a bit lighter and more subtle, yet since the bedroom can be seen from the living room, the colors complement each other nicely. The light greige wall color brings out the white elements and makes them stand out.

A bedroom with light greige walls, white bedding

The white historic fireplace and the white wardrobe module are set apart from the background wall color and a simple bird art print adds a pop of color to this room.

A brown tone in the hallway

The hallway is quite a dark space since it only receives indirect daylight from the other rooms. This darkness is accentuated with a darker wall color that brings out the white elements in such a nice way. The white-painted vintage drawer cabinet really stands out against this wall color and I like the combination with the shell lamp and the two subtle art frames above it.

Warm grey walls in a small and cozy apartment

post

The warm grey walls in this cozy one-bedroom apartment in Sweden provide the interior design with the perfect soft backdrop that brings out the white trim and white ceilings. The warm grey paint color is combined with a plethora of white and off-white fabrics and a variety of warm neutrals to finish off the look and complement the warm wood color of the flooring.

A living kitchen with warm grey kitchen cabinets, warm grey walls and black countertops

Warm grey walls and warm grey kitchen cabinets

The living kitchen contains a small kitchen module that contains the sink and hood and a larger storage module by the dining table. The warm grey kitchen cabinets are a bit warmer than the wall color, which makes for a nice effect that is enhanced by the brass hardware and the warm tones in the terracotta plant pots on the counter.

While the contrast is not as strong as in a kitchen with white cabinets and a black countertop, it still has a beautiful effect in the space, especially because of the warm grey wall color.

White and beige soft furnishings brighten up the warm grey paint color

While the living space gets a bit of a darker touch because of the warm grey wall color, this has been balanced out by the selection of white fabrics spread throughout the sofa area in the living space.

The wall-to-wall sheer white curtains frame the window nicely and add a lot of coziness to the space. The white fabric sofa (with a Bemz custom cover*) combined with the off-white wool area rug forms the perfect white backdrop for the two oak coffee tables and the oak bookshelf which finishes off the living room nicely.

The simple oak dining chairs and the warm beige tones in the art prints on the warm grey walls warm up the dining room area. This color palette brings out the warm tones in the hardwood flooring, which aren’t covered by an area rug in this section of the living space.

Grey walls with yellow undertones in the bedroom

The bedroom has a grey color on the walls with a bit more yellow undertones than the warm grey walls in the living room. This wall color has a fresh effect on the space and brings out the white ceiling and trim in a nice way.

The white curtains on the window, the white bedding, and the white area rug underneath the bed brighten up the color palette of the room, while the gold and glass wall lamps add an elegant touch.

Since the bedroom is not that spacious, the Ikea PAX wardrobe modules have been spread over two different walls by the doorway. This way the view towards the window is not obstructed while offering enough space to store clothes.

Black kitchen cabinets in a colorful home

post

Even though the walls of this beautiful Swedish apartment have been painted white exclusively, the black kitchen cabinets and the colorful furniture pieces and accessories add a lot f character and personality to this interior.

The black kitchen cabinets can be seen from the open doorway of the living room and they add so much contrast to an otherwise light interior, which has been enhanced by subtle pops of color and a bold combination of patterns in the living room.

A kitchen with black kitchen cabinets, white stone countertops and a round dining table

Black kitchen cabinets and a subtle pop of color

The black kitchen adds a lot of contrast to this kitchen interior with white walls and white-soaped hardwood flooring. The black kitchen cabinets are spread on both the top and bottom of the L-shaped layout, leaving the space by the window available for a beautiful round dining table.

The off-white stone countertops complement the black cabinets and the white walls nicely and the black hardware is so subtle it’s barely noticeable on the black kitchen cabinets.

The round dining table with the oak dining chairs is neutral in color, yet by adding a bright orange pendant light above the table and a small colorful gallery wall on the white walls, this dining room area becomes so interesting.

The black kitchen cabinets can be seen from the living room, and add contrast to the entire interior.

An eclectic mix of colors and patterns in the living room

While the rest of the apartment has been decorated in a rather subtle way, the living room has a bolder look. The area rug and lounge chair resonate a seventies vibe, mixed in with modern and mid-century modern elements for an interesting combination.

The TV has been integrated into a gallery wall, which makes it stand out less and the plant in the corner finishes the look off with a lovely touch of greenery.

While the design of the bedroom is cozy yet minimal, the artwork inside the ornate gold frame adds a true eye-catcher to the space. A modern loft kitchen in a majestic apartment

post

The modern loft kitchen in this beautiful, majestic turn-of-the-century apartment in Sweden separates the bedroom and the living room from each other. The old doorway that used to separate both rooms has been removed to create an open-space floor plan that is much alike modern lofts, yet with so much ornate historic detailing in the architecture.

A loft kitchen functions as a room divider

The walls of the majestic living space have all been painted white, which draws attention to how high the ceilings are and how spacious this space really is. The modern dark grey loft kitchen stands out so nicely against the backdrop of the white walls, resulting in a contrast in color and in the time period for an impressive effect.

A majestic apartment with a modern loft kitchen separating the living space from the bedroom

The loft kitchen consists of a main block behind which the bedroom is located and a kitchen island in the middle that has been fitted in between the impressive historic doorway. Two large modules on each side hold bigger appliances, while the middle part of the kitchen is fitted with indented upper cabinets with a beautiful LED strip underneath it that enhances the modern effect of the loft kitchen in the space.

The interior of the living space has been decorated with classics in a natural color palette and a few black pieces for contrast against the white walls.

A bright Swedish flat with light grey walls

post

This beautiful flat in Sweden has very subtle light grey walls in the living room and a warmer off-white wall color in the bedroom for a subtle backdrop that is enhanced with beautiful accessories in neutral colors and fresh green plants that add a bright color to the space without being overpowering.

The subtle, light wall colors bring out the turn-of-the-century qualities of the apartment in a beautiful way.

Light grey walls combined with warm tones and fresh greens in the living room

The light grey walls in this light-flooded living room bring out the white floorboards, crown molding, and sheer white curtains in front of the window in such a subtle yet elegant way. The off-white linen sofa with a Bemz custom cover* combined with the textural area rug and a variety of throw pillows on the sofa have a very cozy and inviting effect in the space.

The subtle gallery wall above the sofa matches the overall color palette of the furniture and fabrics in the interior.

An Ikea Ivar cabinet painted in the same color as the light grey walls with black legs makes for the perfect low-budget sideboard solution next to the dining table. The legs lift the cabinet up to just right above the floorboards, while the cabinets themselves merge with the walls for a subtle effect.

The large dining table with the &Tradition Betty chairs in light oak and the beige linen tablecloth complement the light grey walls perfectly and the XL rice paper shade works well in between the dining and sofa area.

The XL round mirror reflects the living room in a wonderful way and adds an interesting focal point above the dining table.

A white kitchen with black countertops and a white brick wall

The white kitchen cabinets are contrasted with a black granite countertop for a contrasting effect that resembles the black and white tiles on the floor. The sliding barn door and the white-painted brick backsplash give this space a farmhouse look and feel, which is matched by the design of the appliances and hardware in the IKEA Bodbyn kitchen.

The kitchen is compact and spread from wall to wall, yet it has ample storage space and two surfaces for cutting and preparing food. The black hood contrasts nicely against the white-painted brick wall and the white open shelving adds a spot for adding a selection of kitchen accessories on display.

The black fridge works well in this black-and-white setting and the small bistro table combined with stools adds an extra spot for having breakfast in the morning.

A small nursery with white brick walls

Right next to the kitchen, you can find a mall nursery, which has been decorated with bright yellow curtains to add a warm and soft element to the white-painted brick walls. A vintage desk adds character to this space and also provides the room with home office functionality.

Off-white bedroom walls with a butter-yellow duvet cover

The bedroom walls have been painted in a slightly more yellow tone than the light grey walls in the living room, giving the space a warmer base. Just like in the living room, an Ikea Ivar cabinet can be found next to the bed for extra storage, which has been painted in the same off-white color as the walls.

The butter-yellow duvet cover complements the wall color in a lovely way, while the green plants add a fresh touch, similar to the effect achieved in the living room.

The large textile lamp above the bed adds a soft and sculptural look to the interior, which in my opinion is an ideal vibe for a calming bedroom design.

Even though the bedroom wall behind the wardrobe is not even, the wardrobe modules were built in a straight line in front of it to even out the look. The white wardrobe stands out in a subtle way from the off-white bedroom walls and since it doesn’t extend up to the ceiling, you can still see the crown molding very well.

White walls and subtle wood tones

post

This beautiful turn-of-the-century home in Sweden has white walls in every single room, which reflect the natural light coming in through those large windows.

The deep wood color of the herringbone flooring contrasts nicely with the white paint color on the walls, windows, door frames, and ceilings and the interior has been decorated with large white pieces, combined with subtle wood tones throughout.

A spacious living room with white walls

The living room lies in between the kitchen and the bedroom and is the most spacious room in the apartment. The sofas and the white area rug form the perfect white backdrop for the simple wood side tables and the sideboard, which both add a subtle yet warm touch to the color palette.

Added style to a dated Ikea kitchen

The white kitchen might be slightly dated, yet the stainless steel countertops give it a rather modern appearance which is enhanced by the wonderful selection of accessories on the countertop and on the open shelving. By switching out the faucet to a modern one, the kitchen gets an updated look as well.

The white walls are seamlessly integrated with the white kitchen, which goes over into built-in open shelving by the window, where the most beautiful kitchen accessories can be added to display. The white dining chairs combined with the white pendant results in a white look from which the subtle colors in the accessories jump out of.

The cozy, minimal bedroom design goes in line with the color palette in the rest of the apartment, from which the subtle details stand out so nicely against the white walls. The small gallery wall above the bed adds a subtle warm tone to the crisp white walls.

A home office in a walk-in-closet

By the end of the bed, you can find another sideboard in wood, which goes well with the white walls and the white bedding in the bedroom. The walk-in closet has been transformed into a small home office space that can be accessed from the hallway as well. Note that the ceiling of the closet has been lowered to still provide storage space for larger pieces above it.

Like in the rest of the apartment, the white walls of the office spot have been complemented with office furniture in wood tones and a beautiful wood wall shelf for keeping office supplies.

White subway tiles and black floor tiles in the bathroom

The white walls continue in the bathroom as well, where beautiful glossy subway tiles adorn the wall. The black tiles on the floor add a bit of contrast to the setting and I love that the shape of the floor tiles is different than the tiles on the wall.
