Ask og Eng x Maison Jackie

post

Sustainable kitchen designer Ask og Eng just teamed up with Maison Jackie, where you can experience their kitchen in a ‘home away from’ home. And it’s in my hometown Antwerp nonetheless! After both founders met eachother in Marrakesh,  a purposeful collaboration arose. They instantly connected over working in similar industries, having kids of the same age and sharing a valuable eye for aesthetics.

Maison Jackie is housed in the former monastery of the last sisters of Niel. The strongly female, spiritual energy the sisters left behind has been deliberately translated into a soulful event space. In Maison Jackie, craftsmanship, interior design, fashion, food, and yoga engage in an enriching dialogue.

I particularly like the way the kitchen goes over into a massive window seat with a day bed from which the abundance of daylight coming through the window can be enjoyed.

Small home in a warm color palette

post

This Swedish studio apartment is painted in a lovely combination of muted colors and combines all the necessary functions on a relatively small surface. The black floor of the living room has a bit of a dramatic effect, which has been enhanced by the darker velvet sofa and the black dining chairs, but balanced out by the light area rug and the warm grey wall color.

The niche inside the living room has been used for the kitchen, which is small, but functional. I love the way a small breakfast bar and more surface area to work on was created with a custom solution and the open shelving provides a nice spot to put some cookbooks and pretty ceramics on display.

Adjacent to the living room, you can find a small bedroom, with white floors and beautiful green wall color. The fresh green on the walls adds a cool touch to the space, so the beige and mustard in the bedsheets warm up the look of this room in a really nice way.

Margin lighting by New Works

post

Danish design firm New Works just released a new family of lighting: Margin, a modern interpretation of the classic luminaire by designer John Asbury. The series explores a tiered typology for lighting with intersecting shades gently diffusing the light and instantly setting the tone with warmth and tactility.

The softness of the fabric is tempered by a clean and graphic silhouette that lends a certain presence and volume to a space. It is the sense of proportions, along with details such as the linear element through the lamp, which sharpen the aesthetics and allow Margin’s special character to unfold.

A simple home with beautiful art prints

post

I think art and art prints can add so much character and personality to a home. The selection and the way you combine the artwork will always be personal and individual, and you can put your own mark on it by combining different styles, artists and color palettes.

This beautiful Swedish apartment has a bright, sun-lit living room, which also functions as a home office and dining room. The shelf on the wall functions as a living room desk, and at the same time, it can be used to store away books. The sofa area combines a neutral grey sofa with an accent black coffee table, which is a perfect neutral base palette so that the art prints on the wall are the eye-catcher in this area.

The bedroom has been painted in a neutral grey wall color just like the living room, with the warm color palette of the bedding adding a cozy touch to the space. Another home office spot was added to the area in front of the bedroom window and just like in the living room, the bench in the corner is decorated with a beautiful combination of art prints that add character and personality to the space.

Christmas 2021 at Artilleriet

post

It almost became a tradition to share the beautiful Christmas settings of Swedish concept store Artilleriet here on the blog. Every year they come up with a beautiful setting that is cozy, inviting, and a little different than what you usually see in the Christmas catalogs of brands. I love the tones of red in this setting, which is everything but your classic Christmas red, but still has a hint of traditional festivities mixed in with a creative Scandinavian touch.

High contrast turn-of-the-century home

post

The contrast in this gorgeous turn-of-the-century Swedish home makes it so special and characterful I think. The difference between the wall colors in each room contrasts so nicely with each other. They look great on their own but also combine wonderfully with the color in the other room. The living room has white walls, which allows the beautiful daylight coming in through those big windows to be reflected off the walls. The cognac leather sofa is a statement piece on the fluffy area rug in this room and I love that it’s placed in the middle of the space.

The adjacent dining room has very dark grey walls, which are almost black, for a certain wow effect. I love the way the painting looks against the dark wall and the white vitrine contrast so nicely against the walls as well. I think the combination of the wood from the dining table and the Wishbone chairs, the black and white on the walls, and the green plant has such a powerful expression in this space.

Just like the living room, the kitchen is bright white, with natural materials in the dining chair to warm things up a bit. The bedroom has been painted in a dark dusty blue, which lets the neutral colors in the bedding and in the gallery wall shine.

Linnéa Salmén for The Ode to

post

I love the work of Swedish stylist Linnéa Salmen, which is trendy yet always a little unexpected. She recently did a styling for The Ode To, which is a webshop for thoughtfully curated artworks and sculptures by predominately female artists. They always work with artists they truly admire, both male and female, and strive to find a balance that ensures a creative platform for women. As curators, this gives them the opportunity to counterweight the imbalance that exists in the art world.

Beautiful home with blue accents

post

If you follow me on Instagram, you might know that I have a weakness for blue accessories combined with a neutral yet warm color palette in the interior otherwise. There is just something about the cool blue touches in contrast with elements like wood, beige textiles, and other natural materials that I think works so nicely.

This beautiful Swedish home is a great example of these subtle touches of blue coming back in the entire interior. I especially love the way the simple white sofa has been enhanced with blue pillows and other blue accessories for a fresh touch. The walls of the living room seem to be painted in a cool grey and the large wooden dining table with the CH24 chairs works so nicely with the pops of blue in the candle holders as well.

This apartment seems to have a second living room with a sofa and this one has a very warm color palette with very warm grey (almost brown) walls and warm details for a cozy effect. This warm look is continued in the bedroom, where tints of burgundy make an appearance in the bed linen, which combines wonderfully with the beige linen curtains.

Christmas at Ferm Living

post

I love it when Danish design brand Ferm Living comes out with their new collections. Not only because I love their products, but they always style their images to perfection and I get so many ideas from their catalog for my own home. Their Christmas images this year are so inspiring as well and since I started to add some small hints of Christmas to my place as well, I find these cozy images so great to look at.

I love subtle hints of Christmas, but since I live in an apartment and not a big house, I like to keep them modest. I’m definitely more a fan of these nordic and neutral elements rather than the classic bold ornaments. I try to add extra coziness and to my home without creating too much clutter and even then, I’m sure I will be happy to store all the little pieces away come January.

Studio home with a deep warm color palette

post

This studio home combines the living room and bedroom in one big space, and even though it would be easy to add doors in between the two areas, the open plan makes the apartment look spacious. By adding a canopy above the bed, the two rooms are visually more separated and the area where the bed is placed becomes its’ own space.

If you are designing your own studio apartment, make sure to check out this blog post with a collection of design ideas for studio apartments, and the best examples in terms of inspiration in my opinion.

The living room has been decorated with a lot of textiles in a deep warm color palette. The muted green on the velvet sofa adds a lot of character to the room and combines so nicely with the textured area rug that covers almost the entire living room. The art prints add a lot visually and the small accessories and plants finish off the look nicely.

The canopy in the bedroom is great for separating the functional areas in the floor plan and does so much to the look of the area. The white linen of the canopy combines wonderfully with the speckled bedsheets and the darker tints in the lamp and the art print.

I’m not such a fan of the black kitchen, but absolutely love this small white dining table in front of the window, which is perfect for two people. Being able to fit the table in the kitchen frees up space in the living area for other things as well.
