The Nordic light kitchen by Nordiska Kรถk

post

I always like the projects of Swedish kitchen manufacturer Nordiska Kรถk. They always find the perfect kitchen design that is perfectly related to the building and architecture of the space. For this particular kitchen, they took the bright, nordic light as an inspiration and designed a modern shaker kitchen with a minimal framework and a monotone color scheme. The result is a timeless off-white kitchen that can last for years to come.ย

The layout of the main part of the kitchen consists of lower cabinets mostly, which are enhanced by a tin wall shelf for carefully selected interior details. On the other side of the kitchen, a glass display cabinet was built, which reminds of the classic serving cabinet, but with a modern touch. I love the way you can see the white pigmented oak through the glass.ย

The exhaust has been built to fit with the minimal aesthetics of this space and has been painted in the same color as the walls and the cabinets. The Jura limestone countertop finishes off the look of this beautiful kitchen, which is elegant, timeless and sophisticated all at once.

beautiful home with a petrol blue kitchen

post

This beautiful turn-of-the-century apartment in Sweden has amazing historic features like the old doors, fireplace, mouldings on the ceiling and those tall windows that let in an abundance of daylight. My favorite area in this home is definitely the petrol blue kitchen, which really stands out from the light flooring and white walls. I love the combination of the dark blue cabinet fronts, with the subtile golden handles and the metro tiles on the wall. The wall opposing the window has the taller kitchen modules, while as the other wall has been kept free of top cabinets for a lighter look. I think the open shelving in dark wood looks perfect above the sink for small accessoires and I love the contrast with the metro tiles.

The dining table in the kitchen is vintage, with a mixture of bentwood chairs, which adds so much character to the already cozy kitchen. Going into the living room, the cozy look continues with the use of many textiles and a large area rug covering almost the entire living room. I love the asymmetric coffee table and the low hanging globe lamp as well, it makes the design more intimate.

The smallest room has been turned into a home office with a small desk and the bedroom is a lovely mixture of grey walls, white linen curtains*, a black accent wall lamp and white linen bedding for a fresh look.

Tone-on-tone beige home

post
A living room with warm beige walls, beige furniture and warm wood tones

How cozy is this beige tone-on-tone apartment in Sweden? The different shades of beige combined with natural wood tints and a variety of textures in the textiles and art prints have such a cozy and warming effect in this space. The living room has been painted in a warm beige tone, which is matched by the art prints in the same tints. The simple off-white sofa with the linen pillows*, combined with a light beige area rug and a minimal wood coffee table has a very calming zen-like effect on the room. I also really like the armchair and the rattan cabinet next to the window.

The dining table and chairs add a lot of warmth to the room and match the tone of the wooden flooring. The gallery wall, pedestal, and wall lamp visually separate the dining area from the rest of the space. The kitchen has a dining area as well, which shares a similar color palette.

The bedroom, which can be accessed from the living room, has a warm grey on the walls, which looks a bit fresh and it can be seen when sitting on the sofa. I love it when the wall colors of different rooms are complementing each other, it makes the apartment just so much more interesting. The beautiful white bedsheets with the black piping* combined with the linen throw* make the bed in a nice way and I love the way the white stands out against the subtle color palette of this apartment.

Beautiful home with impressive windows

post

This Swedish home has such impressive features, don’t you think? The high ceilings and therefore high windows let in so much natural light and I love that the entire home has a shade of warm grey or white, enhanced with plants and furniture in natural colors.

The living room has a very simple and elegant layout, with a large sofa spread in front of the two windows, a round coffee table, and lots of plants (I bet they grow so nicely with all the light). On the other side of the sofa area, you can find a wooden dining table with bentwood chairs and a beautiful art gallery on these picture frame shelves (Ikea has them as well, just paint them in the same color as the wall). The shelf that has been built into the wall is like a cabinet of curiosities and I love the big round mirror reflecting the sunlight coming from the windows.

The grey shaker kitchen fits wonderfully in this space and I love how the kitchen dining table has been kept simple with two benches with a sheepskin. Just like the rest of the space, the bedroom looks very airy and flooded with light. I love the rattan headboard combined with the simple linen on the bed and the wardrobe goes over into a little floating desk for working from home. The desk is just a simple wooden board mounted between the wardrobe and the wall, but by hanging wall shelving above it in the same size as well, it looks very sleek and elegant.

Beautiful home with green walls

post

Green belongs to the cooler colors on the color wheel, but for me it’s perceived as much more inviting and cozy as blue, which can be much more cold and fresh. Especially when combined with warm tints of wood and different textiles, I think green can add a fresh touch, yet can have a very cozy effect in an interior as well.ย

Have a look at this living room as well, which has a similar color on the wall (though a bit lighter and more sage green), but it has been combined with more natural elements in the furniture and sot furnishings for a minimalist look.ย

I think sage green was exactly the right color choice for this turn-of-the-century living room and these large windows with the white framing just pop out of the wall color. The large beige area rug has a fluffy texture, which goes nicely with the light grey of the sofa and I love the small chest of drawers by the sofa with the table lamp on top. On the other side of the sofa, there is a cozy round dining table with white Series 7 chairs and an impressive piece of art on the wall. I think the dusty pink floor lamp really adds character to this corner of the living room.

The kitchen itself has a pretty basic design, however the dining area has been personalised with an impressive gallery wall that goes very high up. The black dining chairs contrast so nicely with the black frames of the art prints and I love that the black detailing comes back in the pendant light as well.

The bedroom has been painted in a muted shade of dark blue, which has such a moody effect in this space. I love the way the light color of the bedsheets, the white in the art prints and the Japanese pendant light stand out against this dark wall color.

Simple white kitchen combined with a dark wall

post

I think the contrast between the light kitchen and the dark floor and wall works so nicely in this kitchen. The cupboards are the simplest Ikea ones (called Veddinge) enhanced with brass details and beautiful metro tiles on the wall. Other than the light and dark contrast in the materials, I also love the difference between old and new here. The mixture of chairs around the dining table have a classic look, which combines wonderfully with the dark grey wall and the glass pendant. In the kitchen itself, the minimal cabinet fronts are combined with a classic oven and exhaust design, which is a lovely mixture of elements as well.

By placing the dining table and chairs on an area rug, this part of the room has been visually separated from the rest of the kitchen and it also adds a cozy texture to the look.

Grey home with beautiful built-ins

post

Every room in this Swedish apartment seems to be painted in some shade of grey, which is enhanced by subtile textiles and accessories to add contrast and variation. I really like how the kitchen seems to be the center of the apartment. The room where the kitchen is located has a window where the dining table is standing, while as the area with less natural light has been used for the kitchen itself. The kitchen island separates the dining and cooking area from each other and I like the grey cabinet fronts (they are standard Ikea Veddinge fronts I think) combined with the brass details and the marble countertop. The three simple black suspension lights hanging above the kitchen counter add a little bit of an industrial touch together with the distressed wine rack placed next to the higher cabinets of the oven.

The hallway has this beautiful old distressed door that hides away shoes and the living room and bedroom are connected to each other with double doors. The color palette of the kitchen comes back in the living area as well, with built-in cabinets in both rooms. In the bedroom you can find a built-in wardrobe, wich comes back in a lower module in the living room that goes from wall to wall. The decor in both rooms is simple and modest, which lets the historic elements of the building speak for themselves.

Beige home with brown accents

post

This gorgeous turn-of-the-century Swedish home has such a warm and inviting color palette I think. The entire apartment has been painted in a beautiful tint of beige, and all rooms seem to come out in the large living room.

The living room has a large sofa area, with an eye-catching pendant on the ceiling and a beautiful gallery wall with tints of brown on the wall. I love the String shelf arrangement in wood, which offers both open and closed storage opportunities. The large rectangular dining table fits wonderfully in front of those majestic windows and from the living room you can see straight into the white kitchen, which has the same tint of beige on the wall.

The white of the kitchen cabinets really stands out against the beige of the wall and the black pendant lights above the countertop add a nice touch of contrast. A small round dining table in the kitchen is the perfect spot for breakfast and I love the brown color coming back in the linen table cloth.

From the other side of the living room, you can walk into the bedroom, which has been painted in a darker tint of greige. The decor in te bedroom is quite simple, yet the hotel-like curtains, the built in storage and the sculptural fabric light on the ceiling make it look elegant and inviting.

I usually don’t go for brown tints in my own interior, but this is making me reconsider. The brown in combination with different tints of beige and some small black accents has such a powerful effect in this space.

Bedroom with pink details

post

This simple bedroom with a combination of beige, grey, and different tints of pink just works so wonderfully in my opinion. I love the subtle warm grey walls, combined with the beige curtains in front of the window*. The white vintage desk adds a bit more romance to this look and I love the way the same vintage chair is used once as a desk chair and once as a bedside table.

The plant with the pink leaves catches the light coming from the window in such a lovely way and matches the overall pink color palette on the bed. The white bed skirt* and the light pink duvet cover* form the perfect base for the linen pillowcases in a deeper tint of pink.

I think pink can be such an elegant color in the bedroom. You can apply this color palette in a subtle way and work mostly with accessories to achieve this look, but you can also go bolder and paint the walls pink, like in this statement bedroom I blogged about a while back.

Office and kitchen connected

post

This beautiful home in Sweden combines a kitchen with a home office in a very lovely way, separated by a black metal glass partition. Instead of making two entirely separate rooms out of this big kitchen, the owners chose to only build the wall halfway and have the other half made out of glass just like the entry door, so you can still look through it, which makes both spaces look bigger.

The kitchen has been custom-built and the cabinets have this elegant shade of white with contrasting black round handles. The upper cabinets and fridge are built around the window and the L-shaped layout works perfectly in this room. The round dining table works well in the middle of the space and the open shelving above the table turns this section of the kitchen into a separate dining area of some sort.

While the kitchen has a very light color palette, this changes when you walk into the home office which has dark grey walls and dark furniture. By the window, you can see a custom-built desk combined with an open bookshelf, which is built around the window. I think it must be such a lovely spot to sit and get some work done while being able to look outside the window. While the desk doesn’t take up much space in front of the window, the rest of the room is used for a lounge chair and a little table. I think it makes so much sense to have a lounge area in your office so you can switch places to work, which is what I personally do as well when I feel like I’m getting less productive during the day.
