New releases from Menu

post

Danish design brand Menu recently released their novelties for 2021 and it’s such a pity that I couldn’t visit their stand at IMM Cologne like I do every year, so these pictures will have to do it for now.

Their new collection consists out of new versions of products from the previous collection like the Carrie table lamp in new colors, and a rectangular dining table of the famous Androgyne design by Danielle Siggerud and there are some new additions to collection as well, like the Ribbon basket designed by Norm Architects and the Levitate Pendant by Afteroom Studio.

My favorite addition to the new collection is the plinth shelving, shaped from Kendzo marble. It can be attached horizontally as a shelf, or vertically as a podium to display your favorite object.

Grey home with a blue bedroom

post

I think the dark grey color in the living room works so well combined with the white and light palette of the living room furniture. The sheer dark grey curtains* match the wall color so nicely and I love the way the light beige sofa and the paper lampshade pop out of the darker wall.

The String shelving on the living room wall works wonderfully well as a bookshelf and also offers a small living room office spot, which so many of us need right now.

The dining table in the kitchen has been placed in front of the window in a niche, which makes it very cozy and I love the way the wooden shelf and the opal glass pendant visually make this area into its own room.

The bedroom walls have been painted in a dark muted blue color, which makes the white linen curtains* and the linen pillow cases* in white and beige tints on the bed stand out so nicely.

Characterful kitchen and dining area

post

One of the elements I find most inspiring about a home is character and personality. When you follow trends blindly, I think a home can become so bland and neutral, which I find very uninspiring. On the other hand, I love to see homes like this one in Sweden, where you start wondering about the people who live there.

I love the way the kitchen was built around the pipes that where there on the wall and even though this is not a design element per se, they have been integrated well on the tiled wall with the shelving. Imperfection adds personality and it’s lovely when you can work with the elements that a home provides. I love the custom glass shelving on the tiled wall, which looks light and modest.

The dining area next to the kitchen consist mainly out of vintage furniture, and I love the vintage cupboard for the vinyl player with the old wooden mirror above it. The oversized poster on the wall next to the dining table has a wow effect as well and I love the way the blue in the print adds a pop of color here.

Beautiful turn of the century apartment

post

Look at this beautiful turn of the century Swedish home. I think the light is so soft and beautiful coming through those large windows decorated with white and beige linen curtains* which soften out the harsh sunlight a lot.

The three main rooms of the apartment are connected to each other, with the dining room at the center. I believe in any space it’s important to have a cohesive style and color palette in the interior, but this is even more the case when you can see all the different rooms from wherever you are standing.

The walls of the apartment are painted in a grey that is on the cooler side (though only slightly), mixed up with a warm beige wall in the study. The cool grey is warmed up with tints of wood and warm textiles and details like the burgundy fabrics on the bed which really stand out all the way from the other side of the room.

The white fabric and paper lampshades also tie together the rooms, which is a red thread throughout the apartment. In the bedroom you can find a beautiful fabric pendant by Gong design, above the dining table I think I recognise the HAY Nelsson saucer* and the rice paper shade in the living room matches this look perfectly.

Small studio apartment with an olive green kitchen

post
An olive green kitchen with limestone countertops in a small studio home

I’m pretty sure this small apartment with a beautiful olive green kitchen is the same as this small studio that I blogged about in 2019, yet the kitchen has changed colors in the meantime. I think both color palettes are beautiful, yet the olive color of the kitchen has a more calming effect together with the sandstone countertop.

The layout stayed the same, with a cozy round dining table and a small sofa in the living room. In the bedroom, the last owners have built a bed on top of storage modules, which makes a lot of sense in such a small space. The mirror next to the bed is a great idea as well since it reflects the daylight and makes the space look bigger.

If you are looking for more ideas on how to decorate a studio apartment, make sure to have a look at this blog post, where I listed the most inspiring ideas for decorating small apartments.

Beautiful home in a dark palette

post

A very dark flooring like the one in this Swedish home can sometimes look bottom heavy when combined with white or light walls. In this space the walls were painted in a beautiful shade of grey, accentuating the angled lines of the white ceiling and softening the contrast with the dark flooring. The light area rugs in both the bedroom and the living room break the surface of the floor as well and soften out the look.

I love the way the art prints stand out on this wall color and in the kitchen you can find my own ‘Crinkled no.1’ art print, which I’m so happy about. The bedroom has a small home office, which is placed in the niche of the rooftop window and I love the combination of the warm textiles on the bed, which contrast nicely against the cooler grey wall color.

Dark and moody home

post

I love the darker grey color on the walls of this beautiful Swedish home. It gives the space a bit of a moody vibe, but also makes the simple furniture and objects stand out very nicely. The fluffy area rug in the living room adds a cozy touch to this room and I love the combination of the gallery wall and the small wooden shelf on the wall.

In the kitchen a green wall paint is combined with white tiles and a darker wall paper where the dining area is, which has a very moody effect as well.

The bedroom seems to share the same wall color as the living room and I love the peg rail with the little stool which can be seen from the other room.

Warm minimalist kitchen from Nordiska Kök

post

Swedish kitchen manufacturer Nordiska Kök has designed a minimal warm white kitchen for this beautiful turn of the century apartment in Stockholm. The minimal presence of the kitchen lets the simplicity of the design shine, with the rounded corners on the cupboards giving the room and updated and modern look and feel, which harmonises nicely with the historic features of the apartment.

The round corners make the kitchen cupboards into a beautiful piece of furniture which adds a unique expression to the room. The kitchen island becomes the central element of the kitchen (and maybe even of the apartment) where you can have breakfast and gather around.

beautifully renovated studio home

post

I love the way this one-room studio home has been renovated and transformed into a modern-day studio space with a separate bedroom and an open plan kitchen with greige kitchen cabinets. The wall dividing the kitchen and bedroom has been added later on to create a separate room for sleeping, which also offers space for a large wardrobe.

The area behind this wall has been fitted with a full kitchen that has higher cabinets only on the furthest wall, making the design look lighter. On the lower part of the kitchen elegant hanging lamps are placed for a more interesting look.

The living and dining area is rather small, yet has everything one might need. By selecting furniture that is not that big in size, you still have enough empty space around it all, which makes this room look bigger.

Studio home with a glass partition wall

post

When you live in a small studio home, it’s all about visually separating the areas. I often show small spaces here on the blog, which use area rugs and gallery walls to visually divide the bedroom and living room area, but in this particular home, a glass partition wall has been used to really separate the two, which is even better and offers the feeling of two separate rooms.

The advantage of a glass partition is that it still lets through the daylight from the window. In fact in this particular case, the light is even reflected on the mirror hanging on the exposed brick wall. A white linen curtain* is mounted on the inside of the wall to block out the light when sleeping and for privacy.

The rest of the home basically consists of an open-plan kitchen, with contrasting black elements which come back in every area. I love the blanket on the bed as well, which has a black and white pattern.

You can find another great example of a black and glass partition wall in this blog post and I have rounded up the most inspiring homes with glass partition walls in this post for you.
