Turn of the century home in a rich color palette

post

I’m so impressed with the deep color palette in this turn of the century home. It’s such a bold choice to paint the kitchen in dusty pink and I love the way this was enhanced even more with the wine red chairs. The other rooms are painted in an even darker color with the living room in a warm grey and a wine red ceiling and the bedroom in a dark moss green.

This dark color palette works really nicely in this home because it has a lot of natural light coming through these large windows. The window frames are left white, which makes them stand out even more. This home has such character and style which is so inspirational.

Tiny office room

post

The owners of this Swedish home transformed a tiny room into a beautiful and inspiring workspace. The room doesn’t have direct daylight, which makes artificial lighting even more important (both on the desk and on the ceiling). The white area rug brightens up the space, adds a soft surface to place your feet on and makes this room more like a finished space rather than a storage cabinet.

The picture ledges on the wall add an oportunity to display small accessories and art prints which can easily be updated and switched around, without sacrificing floor space.

Nordiska Kök in the TypeO Loft

post
A minimal kitchen design with light oak cabinets, a limestone countertop and a black faucet

TypeO is a Sweden-based design studio and a well-curated webshop with handpicked and personal interior objects. They recently also opened the TypeO Loft in the Swedish country side where you can stay the night and enjoy the silence, serenity, and peace of mind of this secluded location.

The Loft is decorated minimally and harmonious with a combination of mineral colors, warm beige tones, natural materials, and handpicked design and decor details (which you can buy upon checkout if you like).

I’m especially drawn to the kitchen in the loft, which was designed by Nordiska Kök with timeless Scandinavian design in mind. The kitchen is a combination of closed storage hiding away all appliances and an open shelf for displaying carefully selected goods. The Thala grey limestone on the countertop harmonizes perfectly with the light oak wood cabinet fronts and the black faucet adds a nice contrast.

Kinnasand / Kvadrat

post

These beautiful images are from the catalog of Swedish textile brand Kinnasand. They design unique, high-quality textiles and carpets for the home characterised by individuality and attention-to-detail. Their textiles are made from the very best materials and crafted by the World’s finest weavers using state-of-the-art technologies.

I love that in these beautiful images the textiles and curtains stand out, but in a modest and elegant way, drawing just enough attention to their delicate texture and color palette, but not taking any attention away from the beautiful textures in the interior.

Improvised desk in a window sill

post

I love the way this window sill has been extended into a small workspace by replacing the sill with a custom-cut wood board where you can sit with a chair and get some work done. It’s amazing how such a small corner in a tiny bedroom can be made so useful. You really don’t need a lot of space, but it’s so nice to have a dedicated spot to work at from your home.

Turn of the century home with black accents

post

The use of black accent pieces in this turn-of-the-century Swedish home is so on point. The living room has a lot of contrast especially, with the white sofa and coffee table, combined with the black area rug underneath it. The cognac leather butterfly chair, combined with the brown and warm grey textiles on the sofa* warm up this black and white palette, which makes it look much cozier.

This black accent palette is continued in the kitchen with black hardware, where the cupboards and dining table are matt black. A custom-made black cabinet going from floor to ceiling next to the old stove makes for a perfect spot to display pretty kitchen accessories and I love how the black radiator stands out as well. The beige linen curtains* work very nicely with the beige artwork on the wall in the dining corner, these warm tints work wonderfully with all the black and with the white subway tile backsplash.

In the bedroom, the bed is placed in the middle of the room in front of the window, giving this space a luxurious look. I love the linen headboard cover and the sheer white curtains* that let in all the sunlight.

Creative home office corner

post

I love seeing creative home office spaces and I think this one really looks like an inspiring place to get some work done. I love the old archive chest where prints can be stored and it has been made even better by the large plant on top.

The desk space has open shelving on top for extra storage space and I love the Ikea picture rail which has been painted in the same color as the wall to display some art prints and add a personal touch.

Hanna Nova Beatrice’s home

post

This is the home of Hanna Nova Beatrice, former Editor in chief of Residence Magazine in Sweden. It was featured on the Residence Magazine blog and I just love the rich tints of dark wood, leather and terrazzo against the grey mineral paint on the walls.

Hanna Nova’s home is modern and minimal, yet a cozy look and feel has been achieved by the use of different textures and natural materials. I love the dark wood in the kitchen combined with the grey walls and flooring  and the wooden windows work so nicely against the mineral paint on the walls as well.

The picnic table by the large window in the living room looks really inviting and tones done the otherwise minimal and clean look of the space I think. In the Residence blogpost you can read more about where you can find all the beautiful furniture pieces.

Bedroom with eye catching blue wall paper

post

I usually prefer painted walls over wallpaper, since it allows for much more personalisation and it gives you the oportunity to work with art prints that you can change around for an updated look without a lot of effort. That said however, sometimes the right wallpaper can give a room exactly what it needs and add extra dimension to make it look interesting and personal.

This bedroom with the graphic blue wallpaper works really nicely combined with the beige duvet cover* on the bed, the white area rug and the natural wooden bench by the end of the bed. The painted grey antique cabinet works really nicely against the graphic wall and it ads a soft touch to all this texture.

Beige kitchen with a cozy dining space

post

This kitchen has an odd angle in its layout, but the owners of this turn of the century home really made it work by placing the kitchen on the angled wall and placing a dining table in front of those big windows.

The beige of the kitchen cabinets, combined with the warm hardwood flooring and the beige linen table cloth work as a perfect warm base for elements like the chrome sculptural vase and the blue and lavender accents, which really stand out of this palette.
