post

I you have a small kitchen, you know how challenging it can be to find enough storage space for all of your kitchen essentials. However, with expert advice and a few smart small kitchen storage ideas, you can make the most of your limited space and create a kitchen that is both functional and organized, but most importantly, where you’ll love to cook.

Earlier this week I visited the IKEA “Planungsstudio”, (IKEA Plan and Order Point) here in Munich. This is a new IKEA concept in the middle of the city where you can get inspiration for your latest interior project and get help with the planning and ordering.

During my visit, I got inspired by one smart kitchen storage idea after the other, and after talking to the IKEA planning experts, I decided to write all the tips and tricks out in a little guide for you.

In the article below, you’ll find a variety of storage ideas to optimize your small kitchen, ranging from planning out the right layout utilizing vertical storage space to maximizing cabinet and drawer storage and using smart solutions to free up valuable counter space.

About the IKEA Planungsstudio

I visited the IKEA Planungsstudio in Pasing Arcaden here in Munich, as it’s only a 10-minute metro ride from my home, yet you have multiple studios available in both Berlin and Munich.

The 300m2 location features a selection of kitchen and wardrobe inspirations that include smart solutions that are especially helpful for small-space living, a topic so relevant for anyone living in a bigger city. Samples of all cabinet fronts, hardware, and countertop materials can be tested out together so you can achieve the dream look for your new kitchen or wardrobe in person.

You can book an appointment with one of the IKEA professional planners or plan your smart interior solutions yourself on the spot. You can arrange a delivery to your home, to one of the new pick-up locations throughout Munich, or to an IKEA store of your choice.

First things first: declutter before you organize

Before we get into the tips and storage solutions, it’s crucial to mention the power of decluttering. Go through your pantry and kitchen items one by one and decide whether you want to keep, donate, or toss each item.

This can include expired food, duplicate utensils, or even appliances you rarely use. Each item you eliminate makes life easier and the task of organizing and planning a small kitchen less daunting.

Maximize your kitchen layout

When planning a small kitchen layout, it’s important to spend extra time and attention to the planning, as every placement of kitchen cabinets, drawers, and countertop space can have a big impact on the storage space available.

When you don’t have a lot of floor space to work with, you should focus on ways to optimize vertical storage. Keep in mind which functionality and storage opportunities your kitchen should include before planning out your kitchen, whether you do it together with an IKEA planning expert, or by yourself.

“At the IKEA Planungsstudios, we assist people with the planning and ordering of various solutions for their home like kitchens. Especially with the planning of a smaller kitchen, where every smartly placed cabinet or drawer module can mean instantly more storage space, it can be beneficial to sit together with one of our planning experts, who collectively can support you in no less than 13 languages.” – Michael Vortkamp, IKEA Market Manager Metropolregion München.

Layer drawers to unlock space and accessibility

Kitchen drawers are a great way to optimize space as they provide easy access by bringing the contents to you. With a simple pull, you can easily grab items. One of the key benefits of drawers is their ability to provide a clear view of their contents, ensuring that nothing gets lost or forgotten in the depths of a dark cabinet.

Drawers can be adapted to various needs and paired with thoughtful storage solutions to make even the coziest of kitchens work.

Image source: Inter IKEA Systems B.V.

Add a drawer inside a drawer to utilize all available space

By planning out a drawer inside a drawer, you can utilize the top area you would otherwise lose and include items with less height like cutlery, spices, kitchen utensils, or even smaller appliances.

Image source: Inter IKEA Systems B.V.

Smartly divide your drawers and create a spot for everything

Dividers and inserts are an ingenious way to create a dedicated space for utensils, cutlery, and kitchen tools. This level of organization not only maximizes space but also streamlines your workflow, making meal preparation a seamless experience.

You can include an insert for knife storage to keep your knives safely next to each other or include a special insert for herbs and spices so they face you when you open the drawer.

Maximize your cabinet space

When planning a tiny kitchen, you should ensure making use of the available height in your space and add upper cabinets to create more storage opportunities. If you have extra high ceilings in your own kitchen space, you might even want to include cabinets reaching the ceiling. They will be harder to reach, however, they are perfect for storing less-used kitchen items.

Cabinets are essential for storage in any kitchen, but they become even more important in a small room. Use cabinet organizers such as adjustable dividers or pull-out drawers to maximize your space.

Utilize your cabinet doors

Cabinet doors are often less considered when planning a small kitchen, however, you shouldn’t overlook them as they can be used to add hooks or hanging racks to free up valuable cabinet space and to keep items easily accessible and within reach.

A smart IKEA UTRUSTA pull-out pantry will transform your cabinet with 6 main shelves inside the cabinet and 6 smaller shelves attached to the door. The shelving fits into each other when the door is closed and will move towards you when you open the door.

Image source: Inter IKEA Systems B.V.

You can also add hooks to make your cabinet doors do double duty, as in the creative example below.

Image source: Inter IKEA Systems B.V.

Use tiered storage to make the most of your cabinets

Make use of vertical space by stacking items neatly. Tiered shelving or adjustable shelves within cabinets allow you to customize the layout and create more space to accommodate various-sized items, from plates and bowls to kitchen appliances.

Add cabinet inserts to create extra levels for glasses, storage containers, or other items with different heights, or work with a hanging basket on the bottom of the shelf to create easy access for items with less height.

In the example below, you can see the PÅLYCKE multifunctional cabinet insert used to hang wine glasses inside the kitchen cabinet.

Image source: Inter IKEA Systems B.V.

Install pull-out storage in the smallest gaps

Even the smallest gaps in between kitchen modules can be optimized by including a narrow pull-out drawer which is perfect for a small pantry, for storing cutting boards, or for storage containers like in the example below.

Free up your countertop space

When it comes to small kitchen storage ideas, vertical space is your best friend. By utilizing wall space and open shelving, you can free up precious counter space and create a more organized and visually appealing kitchen design.

Make your open shelving work for you

Open shelving offers additional storage, easy access to your most used items, and at the same time provides you with a stylish way to display your kitchen essentials.

Keep your open shelves neat and tidy by arranging items by color or category. This not only looks visually appealing but makes it easier to find what you need.

Image source: Inter IKEA Systems B.V.

Hanging rails for pots, pans, or utensils

Hanging rails can be great for hanging pots and pans so that they don’t need to take up any cabinet or drawer space. Spread the rail over your entire kitchen counter length or work with a smaller rail to store just a few pans and a few utensils.

Image source: Inter IKEA Systems B.V.

Add a wall-mounted spice rack

Save counter and cabinet space by storing spices on wall-mounted spice racks like the ones from the NEREBY series shown below. You can keep your most used spices close to where you need them and freshen up the look of your kitchen with a fresh green herb pot.

Image source: Inter IKEA Systems B.V.

Create extra countertop and storage space with a rolling cart

A rolling cart with shelves creates both extra storage and an extra countertop space and can be moved around to wherever you need it. It can serve as a small kitchen island in the middle of your kitchen, or a shelf when you place it against the wall.

Below you can see the KUNGSFORS rolling cart in stainless steel adding extra storage space, and the BEKVÄM design made out of Birch elongating the kitchen counter.

Image source: Inter IKEA Systems B.V.

Accessories to optimize: it’s all in the details

While the biggest impact can be made with planning and organizing your tiny kitchen, during my visit to the IKEA Planungsstudio, I noticed how much attention the planning experts had dedicated to the details.

Every inspiring example kitchen on display included a plethora of kitchen accessories that are small kitchen storage ideas in and of themselves and great solutions for those who want to add clever storage solutions to an existing kitchen design.

Utilize Storage Containers as a focal point

Storage containers are an excellent way to keep your cabinets organized and make the most out of limited space. Consider using stackable containers to store food, dry goods, or snacks. Clear containers can help you see what’s inside at a glance, and labels can prevent confusion and make the organization even more accessible.

If you are storing your containers on an open shelving unit, they can even make a beautiful focal point in your kitchen.

Image source: Inter IKEA Systems B.V.

Compact and stackable kitchen essentials

There are some smart solutions for kitchen essentials that take up much less space than the original. A set of GARNITYREN nested bowls and containers will take up much less space in your cabinet or drawer and stackable cookware can free up a lot of space as well.

Multifunctional kitchen essentials

A foldable KLOCKREN strainer can be used both as a steamer and a strainer and it collapses so it takes up way less space in your cabinet or drawer.

A LILLHAVET over-the-sink cutting board will provide you with extra counter space while your sink is not in use.

Organize your waste and improve your recycling game

Recycling your waist is so important while cooking, however, it can take up so much space to do it well. The HÅLLBAR system makes it easier for you to recycle and it even looks organized in your kitchen.

The closed lid will reduce smells and the containers fit perfectly in different configurations inside of a cabinet, in a drawer underneath the sink, or stacked on top of each other.

Conclusion

Whether you pick out one small kitchen storage idea from this list or plan your entire kitchen from scratch, the tips and ideas to save space can work in kitchens small or big.

Before you start with the planning of your kitchen, it’s always good to de-clutter and make a mental list of all the storage functionalities you might need in your kitchen.

When you are planning the layout of a small or even tiny kitchen, make sure to work with the height available in the room and include cabinets or open shelving on top of the counters as well. Include a second layer of drawers inside your drawers to store more kitchen supplies and organize them with inserts and dividers to keep an overview.

Make use of tiered storage inside of your cabinets and use the cabinet door for a Lazy Susan pantry or for hooks to hang oven mitts or other pantry items.

Free up countertop space by hanging open shelving or rails on the walls which can be used for hanging your pots and pans, or for storing mason jars. You can even go for a rolling cart to create more counter and storage space that can be moved around in your kitchen.

Lastly, consider smart accessories that can be folded to store away or pick kitchen items that fulfill multiple functionalities.

19 Waterfall kitchen island ideas for a show-stopping effect

post

When you want to add a modern touch to your kitchen design, you probably came across the option of installing a waterfall kitchen island to transform and modernize your kitchen space. Where a traditional kitchen island pairs a countertop and base cabinets and separate sides, a waterfall design allows the countertop material to flow over the sides onto the flooring, creating a cohesive and contemporary expression.

A waterfall countertop makes your kitchen island a focal point in the room, which can redefine the design style of your kitchen. Moreover, the vertically extended countertop material can serve as a protective shield, preventing scuffs on cabinet edges in high-traffic areas around the island.

In the list below, you will find the most inspiring waterfall kitchen island ideas made out of different materials, ranging from natural stone to quartz countertops. Whether you go for a natural or engineered stone, you can pick out a tin countertop for a modest effect in the space, or go for a ticker slab to make your kitchen island look bold and impressive.

When you have such an impressive and expensive stone slab to work with, it’s almost a pity not to have it continue on the sides and integrate more material into a waterfall kitchen island.

The marble texture is a real show-stopper and transforms this minimal kitchen. The impressive marble waterfall countertops pair nicely with the combination of flat panel cabinets in light grey and a brown wood tone. The stone ties the design of the kitchen together.

Is a waterfall island expensive?

Since a waterfall kitchen island is typically constructed out of granite, quartz, or natural stone, they tend to be more expensive than the standard materials. Comparable to quartz, marble, or granite countertops, a granite, marble, or quartz waterfall island will be exponentially more expensive since you need more of those said materials.

Moreover, there is some skilled craftsmanship involved in ensuring the joints of the waterfall island fit together for a clean and elegant look, bringing the price up.

Luckily, a waterfall island is a timeless piece that can stand the test of time, making it worth the initial investment.

Should I add a waterfall countertop to my kitchen island design?

While a waterfall kitchen island can be a true show stopper in large kitchens, which the above examples undoubtedly have shown you, not every kitchen is a good fit. For this timeless design feature to work as a true focal point in this space, you need to make sure that you have enough space around the island.

A spacious, open-concept layout tends to complement the grandeur of a waterfall island, allowing it to become a captivating design element without overwhelming the space. Consider the existing architectural elements, such as the placement of doors, windows, and adjoining rooms, to ensure a harmonious integration.

Additionally, the style of your kitchen plays a crucial role; modern and contemporary designs often embrace the clean lines and sleek finishes of a waterfall countertop.

Tips for Choosing a Timeless Cabinet Color

Choosing the perfect timeless cabinet color may seem daunting, but by considering your home’s architecture, balancing trendy and timeless elements, and coordinating with your countertop and backsplash materials, you can create a cohesive and timeless kitchen design.

Consider Your Home’s Architecture

The cabinet color for a timeless kitchen design is heavily influenced by the architectural style of your home. By selecting a cabinet color that complements your home’s architecture, you can achieve a cohesive and timeless look that flows seamlessly throughout the entire space.

For example, bright white cabinets work well with modern farmhouse, midcentury modern, and contemporary home styles, while classic grey kitchen cabinets can augment the features of contemporary home architecture. When in doubt, it’s always good to consult an interior designer and get a professional opinion.

In the example below, cream white shaker kitchen cabinets are built up to the ceiling, which has such an impressive height in this historic space. The oak wood inlay in the glass upper cabinets complements the wood tones in the dining area and the classic herringbone flooring.

The advantage of having your hardware be the trendy element in the space is that you can always swop them out later without having to remodel your entire room.

Consider experimenting with current hardware trends, such as brass, chrome, stainless steel bar pulls, and black hardware, to update your kitchen cabinets while maintaining a timeless look. Additionally, you can introduce trendy accents such as bold colors, and unique textures to add visual interest and create a unique yet timeless kitchen design.

For example, pair slate or charcoal grey cabinets with natural stone countertops, or coordinate navy blue kitchen cabinets with a white or light grey tile backsplash. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different materials and colors to find the perfect combination that suits your personal taste and style.

Shaker Style Cabinets: A Timeless Choice

Due to their simple and functional design, which can easily adapt to various design styles and trends, shaker-style cabinets are a popular and timeless choice. These cabinets are characterized by a simple, rectangular frame with a flat center panel, typically constructed of hardwood for the frame and plywood or MDF for the center panel.

The timeless appeal of shaker-style cabinets lies in their versatility. They can be painted in any of the timeless kitchen cabinet colors mentioned earlier or left in their wood finish to showcase the beauty of the wood. No matter what design style you prefer, shaker-style cabinets can provide a timeless and elegant feel to your kitchen.

Repainting your cabinets in a classic, timeless color can instantly freshen up the appearance of your kitchen. Alternatively, refacing your cabinets with new doors or veneers can give them a completely new look while preserving the existing cabinet structure.

As previously mentioned, another way to update your cabinets for a timeless look is by replacing the hardware. Consider using brass, chrome, stainless steel, or black hardware to add a touch of modern timeless elegance to your kitchen.

By focusing on these small updates, you can create a fresh and classic appearance without investing in a complete kitchen remodel.

Popular Timeless Kitchen Design Styles

Incorporating timeless kitchen design styles into your home can help create a kitchen that remains stylish and fresh for years to come. Popular timeless kitchen design styles include farmhouse, traditional, and modern, each of which can be achieved by incorporating classic cabinet colors and design elements.

A timeless farmhouse kitchen design features rustic materials and finishes, a neutral color palette, vintage-inspired elements, and distinctive cabinetry with a country-inspired style. Traditional kitchen design emphasizes functionality and practicality, incorporating neutral-colored cabinetry, shaker-style cabinets, and marble or quartz countertops for a timeless appeal.

In the example below, classic off-white shaker cabinets are paired with white marble countertops and a mixture of white and cream paint colors on the wall. This mixture of light colors present in the entire kitchen, including the white-soaped hardwood flooring has a timeless and elegant effect in the space.

By carefully selecting these elements, you can create a visually appealing and enduring design that captures the eye without sacrificing timeless appeal.

In the example below, a thin floating shelf in the same color as the off-white kitchen cabinets adorns the pure white wall above the counter. This shelf is a perfect addition for displaying plants and accessories.

Consider balancing white kitchen cabinets with black countertops or using contrasting colors for a classic look. Additionally, unique hardware or accents, such as flat-front panels, brass or metal handles, and embellished metal handles, can enhance the appearance of timeless kitchen cabinets.

In the example below, white shaker cabinetry is paired with a black stone countertop with a high gloss finish for a contrasting effect in the space. The metal handles are finished with a black leather detail, which adds a unique effect to this kitchen design decorated in timeless colors.

17 inspiring kitchens with butcher block countertops

post

Butcher block countertops have been around for ages and they are still far from being out of style or old fashioned. They can be combined with about any kitchen cabinet color and depending on how you integrate them into your kitchen remodel, they can fit perfectly within a modern kitchen design.

You can make butcher block countertops affordable by selecting a laminate or bamboo material, however, depending on the wood species you select for your kitchen design, wood countertops tend to cost much less per square foot/meter than some of the other often-used countertop materials like marble, granite, quartz, or stainless steel.

Butcher block countertops are sustainable, durable, and can be paired with a variety of different cabinet styles and colors, however, they do require maintenance. Wood countertops need to be sealed with mineral oil monthly to protect them against stains or small scratches.

Below, you can find a list of my favorite kitchen designs finished with a wood countertop ranging from farmhouse style, shaker style, or more modern versions.

A Swedish farmhouse kitchen with butcher block countertops

To resemble the original wood beams in the ceiling, this beautiful shaker kitchen in farmhouse style with light grey cabinets is finished with butcher block countertops, paired with a natural wood peg rail, a classic style wood kitchen island and a variety of different antique farmhouse style finds in wood.

Butcher block countertops to balance out a colorful kitchen space

This kitchen design pairs mustard yellow kitchen cabinets with blue laminate floors and pink walls for a unique and colorful effect that is balanced out by the use of a natural butcher block countertop that makes the brass hardware stand out.

Imagine a more textured countertop material like granite or quartz and the look could easily become too much, yet by selecting a wood countertop everything looks balanced.

Moisture stains around the kitchen sink are the most common and it’s recommended to always wipe down any spills on a wood countertop and to clean it with a bit of soapy water. While butcher block typically comes in warmer or darker wood stains, you can opt for a lighter look by picking out a white stain for a modern effect similar to a light quartz that fits perfectly within modern spaces.

15 inspiring white kitchen cabinets with gold hardware

post

White cabinets with gold hardware are a popular material combination for kitchen designs, as it’s both timeless and elegant. Gold accents tend to stand out from white cabinetry in a powerful way, allowing for a unique kitchen design with a contemporary twist whether you opt for brushed gold hardware, rose gold, brushed nickel, or brass hardware.

While chrome hardware or champagne copper will add a more modern and clean touch to your cabinet doors, and wood accents will add a warm and natural tone, gold hardware adds a bit of both with its warm metallic appearance that is both elegant and sophisticated.

In the comprehensive list below, you will find my favorite white and gold kitchen design ideas. Some with an appealing vintage note, some with a more modern appearance. What they all have in common though is the way they tend to stand out against the white canvas of the bright white cabinets.

The small gold pulls add a beautiful finishing touch to this classic kitchen with white shaker cabinets that cover almost the entire kitchen wall from top to bottom. The white marble on the countertop also comes back in the backsplash, adding another white element to the stylish kitchen.

The gold hardware is matched with a gold faucet and the brass details in the light fixture above the dining table introduce gold finishes in this section of the kitchen as well.

A classic white kitchen with gold accents and a vintage dining table

This is one of my personal favorite white and gold kitchen design ideas. The crisp white kitchen cabinets paired with the white marble countertops are finished off with elegant gold hardware that is matched by the antique brass faucet by the kitchen sink.

The vintage dining table and the mixture of chairs complement the hardwood floor and this combination of different textures adds a lot of character to this all-white kitchen.

On the ceiling, an impressive row of small lighting fixtures allows for functional worktop lighting, while the black wall lamp next to the minimal range hood adds an industrial touch to the mixture of different styles in this beautiful kitchen space.

This modern and minimal kitchen design features white cabinets and white countertops that reflect the natural light coming in through those historic windows beautifully. The cabinet hardware is integrated inside of the cabinetry, which is a gorgeous design detail highlighted by the brass inlay that also comes back in the material of the faucet.

The cabinet hardware is center-aligned on the kitchen module with the sink, yet on the cabinet doors on the kitchen island, the matte gold hardware is left aligned.

A modern and minimal white and gold kitchen with a floating shelf

My white and gold kitchen was one of my favorite features in my previous apartment here in Munich. The white cabinets came back in a single floating shelf that spread across the kitchen and the brass cabinet hardware and brass faucet finished the look off perfectly.

To match the white and gold kitchen materials, I would work with brass interior details sometimes, to make the look even more apparent, while other times I would use black accents to make the design stronger.

The gorgeous white kitchen cabinets in this turn-of-the-century interior are finished off with an elegant white marble countertop and the most subtle brass hardware that is small in size, yet adds a powerful effect to the kitchen design.

This kitchen could easily be finished off with rose gold hardware as well. The rose gold would bring out the warm tones in the curtains and hardwood flooring and would have a more feminine effect in the elegant space.

21 Kitchens without upper cabinets for a minimal and light look

post

Ditching wall cabinets and going for kitchens without upper cabinets has a minimal and modern effect on a kitchen interior and allows you to work with open shelving in your kitchen remodel to finish off your kitchen walls.

Since you lose the storage space that would otherwise be provided by the wall cabinets a kitchen without upper cabinets is typically easier to achieve in a kitchen space with a bigger floor plan, as you can work with ample lower cabinets to provide you with enough storage opportunity.

In the list below, you can find a selection of my favorite kitchens without upper cabinets in different layouts, floor plans, settings, and color palettes for you to get inspired.

A spacious kitchen without upper cabinets to accentuate room height

In a spacious kitchen with high ceilings, it makes sense to ditch the upper cabinets if you can find a place to store your pots, appliances, and other kitchen items. A low layout will make the space appear even higher and the combination of the three pendant lights in varying height above the dining table accentuate the tall room even more.

A wide kitchen layout without upper cabinets

The absence of upper cabinets in this beautiful natural wood kitchen makes the space feel larger and the combination with the aesthetically pleasing dining area in different wood tones works well in this kitchen design where the materials themselves are the focal point. The range hood and the beautiful piece of art are the only elements on the wall in this kitchen living space.

A corner kitchen layout with storage space in the bottom kitchen cabinets

This kitchen is planned out in a corner layout with a kitchen island in the middle of the space. The different lower kitchen modules are great to maximize storage space so that the wall space can be kept minimal, with the exception of the white range hood and two elegant wall lamps.

A wall shelf instead of upper kitchen cabinets in between two windows

This beautiful corner kitchen layout has two windows that add a lot of natural light, which makes adding upper cabinets rather challenging. Instead, lower cabinetry is paired with wall shelves that can hold serving dishes, dinner plates, and serving bowls mixed with a beautiful selection of wall art on the top shelf.

An awkward floor plan with a blue kitchen without wall cabinets

The blue kitchen cabinets have been adjusted to this rather awkward floor plan, which would look much too heavy with upper cabinets. Open shelving is added to the niche spaces in the wall to store easily accessible kitchen items.

A kitchen island provides extra cabinets and drawers on the back

This spacious kitchen with light oak kitchen cabinets includes a large kitchen island with seating and a long module of lower drawers and cabinets. The white marble countertop and backsplash add an elegant touch to the one wall on the back where the black task lighting adds a wonderful contrast.

The absence of upper cabinets allows for extra wall space for a beautiful floating shelf

Rather than trying to fit wall units in the small wall space available above the sink, this beautiful kitchen has been fitted with a floating shelf that adds visual interest to the kitchen design. Since the sloped ceiling makes the room feel smaller, this is a great solution to create the illusion of more space.

Practical high cupboards on the side eliminate the need for upper cabinets

When you are worried the drawers and cabinets on the lower half of the layout won’t suffice to store all your plates, dishes, and appliances, a tall wall of cupboards like in the kitchen example below is great for functionality and it allows you to keep the rest of the kitchen free of wall cabinets.

Dark kitchens without upper cabinets look lighter and more balanced

A dark kitchen with upper cabinets can easily become too heavy visually, so leaving out the upper cabinets in this case will make your design appear lighter, especially when combined with white walls like in the example below.

A long kitchen module underneath a sloped roof

This space requires a bottom kitchen layout and the long module of drawers provides a place for each and every kitchen detail. By painting the wall in an eye-catching color, the space becomes interesting and the fact that there is less space available is not so apparent anymore.

Kitchens without upper cabinets work great in larger floor plans

In small spaces, you have to take every opportunity to provide storage, which often means a kitchen without upper cabinets is challenging. If you can work with a large floor plan, you might not need the extra space on the wall for upper cabinets, which will make your kitchen appear lighter. Especially in rooms with lower ceiling height, this can be such a great design decision.

Open shelves make up for less storage in the kitchen

Open shelves are a great alternative for wall cabinets, however, if you are worried your kitchen items or appliances will gather dust, you can use the shelves for decor items only. Just like in the example below, open shelves are great for a fresh green plant as well.

Kitchen cabinets with glass doors: 18 inspiring examples

post

Adding upper cabinets to your kitchen is an easy way to add more storage space, however, in some cases, this can make the kitchen design look busy and crowded. Kitchen cabinets with glass doors offer a great alternative to keep the kitchen design light, and at the same time, they provide a spot for your dinnerware, glasses, and accessories.

When you are planning out a new kitchen, it’s easy to select some or all upper cabinetry with glass doors. If you have an existing kitchen, you can always check with the supplier if it’s possible to exchange some of the existing doors with glass doors to upgrade your kitchen.

When deciding where to include kitchen cabinets with glass doors, think about how many of your kitchen items are worth displaying and how many need to be stored behind closed doors. Since you will be able to see the contents through the glass doors (whether frosted glass, stained glass, or clear glass) you need to find an elegant way of storing the things in there.

Rather than applying upper kitchen cabinets to the wall, you can place your upper cabinets right on top of the countertop, just like in this kitchen design.
