Ground pepper is a key element while preparing a nice meal and just like grinding salt, it’s so important during and after cooking. Since the salt and pepper shakers or grinders will inevitably take such a prominent spot in the kitchen or dining table, it’s one of those elements that should be pretty so there is no need to hide them away in a cupboard.
You can buy pre-ground salt and add it to a shaker, yet when I’m cooking, I personally like to use coarse salt or even salt crystals sometimes, which is why I prefer a salt grinder instead. As for pepper, a grinder is a no-brainer for me because I think the pre-ground pepper loses so much flavor.
Other than preparing better-tasting food though, I love a well-designed salt and pepper set and I think there are some pretty nifty design pieces that are more modern than the typical Peugeot pepper mill. I have listed my favorites down below for you.
Bottle Grinder salt and pepper mills designed by Norm Architects for Menu
The bottle grinder set designed by Norm Architects for Menu* is shaped like a bottle and sits comfortably in your hand. Since it was first released many years ago, it has become almost like a staple in modern Scandinavian kitchens, and in the meanwhile, the design is available in metal, ceramic, and plastic in many different color combinations.
I like the minimal expression of the design and the ceramic grinders are my personal favorite as the combination with the wood top becomes so much more powerful. A perfect pair made to add freshly ground salt or pepper to your dish both in the kitchen and on the dining room table.
Vipp salt and pepper grinder set
The Vipp salt and pepper mill set is made to fit the kitchen or dining room and the set comes with a dish that holds any salt or pepper residue. The ceramic grinding mechanism can be adjusted to the desired coarseness settings and the metal swivel top gives the set an industrial touch that fits perfectly on a high-end Vipp kitchen, however, it can give a modern look to any minimal kitchen as well. I have had this set in my personal home for years now and I’m very happy with it.
Eva Solo salt and pepper grinders
This pepper and salt mill set* is sold individually as it can be composed in different sizes. The ceramic core comes with a 25-year warranty and each grinding mechanism can be used for either pepper or salt. Different grind settings allow you to set the grind size and the mills are very easy to refill. You can pick the size upon your preference, but I personally think the set works best with two different sizes. This way you can distinguish salt and pepper and I think it looks aesthetically more balanced.
Kähler Hammershøi salt and pepper mill with a porcelain top
The grooves on the Kähler Hammershøi collection have become somewhat of an icon since over a decade ago and they are a significant element in the design of the salt and pepper grinders as well. The porcelain top is combined with an oak base, which gives the grinders an elegant, Scandinavian appearance.
The porcelain top is available in different colours so you can easily recognize your favorite salt, pepper, or spice grinder from each other. The simple ceramic grinding mechanism from Crushgrind® allows for a coarse grind or fine grind and comes with a 25-year warranty.
Skagerak Hammer grinder
The design of the Hammer grinder is inspired by nature and the old fortress on the Danish island of Bornholm. The Hammer grinder is available in teak or oak and together they make a neat little set for your grind salt or pepper.
OyOy Hoop mill salt and pepper grinders
The Hoop salt and pepper grinder from OyOy is probably the most playful design in this list. It’s a perfect design for adding freshly ground pepper or your favorite salt to a dish on the dinner table. The design comes in two different FSC-certified wood finishes so you can distinguish pepper, salt, or other spices you have inside.
Rig Tig Cheffy salt and pepper shakers
The Cheffy mess-free salt grinder designed by Renaud Defrancesco is very easy to fill and the streamlined grooves and rounded top offer a good grip for easy grinding. The ceramic grinder can withstand daily wear and tear and is made to last many years to come.
Alessi Twergi salt and pepper grinder set designed by Ettore Sottsass
Ettore Sottsass designed the Twergi pepper mill along with a number of other wooden products for Alessi. The mill is made with a classic woodturning technique and comes in multiple designs and cheerful colorways so you can customize and combine your personal set to your liking.
Owl salt and pepper shakers designed by Jesper Wolff for Spring Copenhagen
These cute Owl salt and pepper mills designed by Jesper Wolff for Spring Copenhagen are inspired by northern hemisphere wildlife, resulting in a playful, charming, and humorous design that can be seen both in the kitchen as well as on the dining table.
Ferm Living Pebble pepper and salt grinders
The organic form and soft curves of the sculptural ‘Pebble’ grinders by Ferm Living are made out of FSC™-certified ash with a carbonized finish. The organic design is inspired by man-made stacks of stones often raised for memorial purposes. These grinders give your kitchen or dining space an artistic and sculptural element and the grinders are almost like an art object rather than a functional kitchen element.
Choosing white cabinets for the design of your kitchen is probably the safest bet you can make when you want a kitchen that is timeless. When you pick out a high-quality kitchen and opt for a white color palette, it can last for years to come. You can always update the faucet and the hardware to give it a slightly updated look over time when needed.
While it’s probably the safest choice, it doesn’t mean a white kitchen design has to be boring. Below you can find my top picks of kitchens in white, ranging from a traditional to a more modern kitchen design, from custom cabinets to Ikea models and many different layouts to be inspired by.
Minimal white cabinets with black hardware and marble countertops
This well-designed, minimal white kitchen is built inside a turn-of-the-century apartment with intricated details in the architecture. The crown moldings, curved windows, and herringbone hardwood flooring are toned down by the subtle interior design of the kitchen.
The white marble on the countertops and on the impressive kitchen island with the built-in gas stove is a true show-stopper in this large kitchen.
No upper cabinetry is used throughout the design, yet a large module has been placed on the wall opposing the windows. The black hardware and faucet contrast with the white cabinetry, which also comes back in the ceiling lamp and the ceramic vases on the counter.
Off-white shaker kitchen with a limestone countertop and a breakfast bar
Rather than going for a crisp white, off-white cabinetry can often have a softer effect on the interior design of a kitchen. The white wall color combined with the dark wood flooring and the beige limestone countertop has a very warm effect in the kitchen that has been toned down by the chrome hardware and the stainless steel hood.
The corner layout of the kitchen offers a lot of storage space on a small surface, while the kitchen island offers the possibility of a breakfast bar.
Minimal white cabinets with wall-to-wall upper cabinets
This modern kitchen features minimal white cabinets that are built into a niche-like space up onto the adjacent wall. The white wall color, white cabinets, and light oak hardwood flooring are warmed up by the limestone countertops and the impressive black marble dining table by the window brings some contrast to the palette.
A classy white kitchen combined with a vintage dining table
The beautiful white cabinetry in this kitchen with off-white walls has been enhanced with white marble on the counter and backsplash, small brass hardware, and a black wall lamp. The exhaust has been hidden in a cabinet as well for a minimal look.
The real contrasting piece in this beautiful white kitchen is the beautiful vintage wood dining table, which adds so a different texture to the space.
White cabinets and floating marble shelving underneath a sloped ceiling
The minimal white cabinetry in this kitchen by interior designer WTP studios with sloped ceilings has been enhanced by grey marble on the countertops, and on the sloped wall for such an impressive effect. The grey marble has also been used as floating shelves above the sink.
Minimal white cabinets with wall-to-wall floating shelving
I love the way the hood has been built into the layout of this small kitchen with white floors, walls, and ceilings. The hood has been built into a cabinet and has been matched with floating shelves on each side for an integrated effect.
The limestone countertops and the black wall lamp add just the right amount of warmth and contrast to this otherwise white space, while the dark palette of the small round dining table and chairs also adds visual interest to all the white surfaces.
Minimal white kitchen with a zellige tile backsplash and wood finishes
The design of these kitchen cabinets might be minimal, yet the addition of the zellige tiles as a backsplash going all the way up to the ceiling makes this kitchen so interesting. The tiles provide a textured yet neutral backdrop to the limestone counters and the round marble dining table combined with the J39 dining chairs complete the look nicely.

White cabinetry without hardware for a minimal look
The minimal kitchen cabinetry has the same off-white color as the wall for a tone-on-tone look contrasted by the black faucet and wall lamps. The limestone countertops and the beige full-width curtains add a lot of warmth to the setting with mostly lower cabinets and the black HAY loop dining table combined with the oak J39 chairs match the minimal look and color palette of the space.
Minimal white shaker cabinet doors without hardware for a minimal yet classy
look
The classic cabinetry in this off-white kitchen designed by Lotta Agaton doesn’t have any cabinet hardware, which makes this sleek design minimal yet classic. The layout consists mostly of lower cabinetry, which is enhanced by a minimal floating shelf above the sink.
The closed cabinets of the minimal kitchen are joined by a cabinet with a glass front and oak wood inlay which goes perfectly with the large oak dining table and benches by the window. I love that the color scheme of the kitchen cabinets matches that of the walls and ceiling, while the wood tones in the dining area match the color of the hardwood flooring.
White cabinets in shaker style with a dark limestone countertop
The all-white look of the cabinets, subway tile, walls, and ceiling in this space has been broken up by the dark limestone on the counter. The stainless steel hardware goes well with the classic cabinets and the combination of high and low cabinets offers ample storage space.
White kitchen cabinets with marble and chrome hardware
The all-white kitchen cabinets, white marble on the backsplash and countertop, and the white floating shelf give this space a clean and bright appearance which has been brought out even more by the chrome faucet and cabinet hardware.
The round white dining table combined with the CH24 wishbone chairs in oak wood softens out the space, while the black wall light fixture from Valerie Objects adds a sculptural touch to the kitchen.
The natural light in this beautiful kitchen is just off the charts and the off-white wall color is matched by the kitchen cabinets for a beautiful tone-on-tone look. The layout of the kitchen consists of low cabinets mostly, with the exception of the single higher module that holds the fridge, and the vitrine cabinet with the oak wood inlay you can spot in the dining room section of the kitchen.
White cabinets with integrated handles and stainless steel appliances
The integrated handles are most apparent in this otherwise minimal design. The white Carrara marble counters, the stainless steel hood, and the subtle brass faucet add a variety of materials to the setting, while the subtle artwork adds a lovely yet minimal pop of color.
Off-white cabinets with granite counters and a rounded island for a warm atmosphere
The granite counters and the round corners on the kitchen island bring the design of the minimal white kitchen cabinet model to a higher level. The light colors and warm tones in this kitchen by interior designer Daniella Witte match so nicely together against a neutral backdrop of lime paint on the walls.
Classic white cabinets with stainless steel appliances and brass details and a cozy breakfast nook
The classic off-white shaker cabinets combined with the stainless steel appliances, white tiles, and brass finishes give this kitchen a classy, characterful look. The layout of the kitchen has been fitted around the angled wall and the shiplap-wrapped breakfast nook ties in perfectly with the classic design of the kitchen cabinets and the white-painted wood floor.
Minimal white cabinets with integrated handles, a calacatta marble backsplash, and chrome pendant lamps
The minimal white kitchen cabinets with integrated handles combined with the marble surfaces in between the lower and upper cabinets of this kitchen give the room a seamless look.
The wood dining table combined with the J39 chairs matches the warm tones of the wood floor, while the chrome Artek bell lamps add a beautiful metallic touch to the white kitchen cabinets.
A cream white kitchen with curved cabinets and impressive marble surfaces
The cream-white cabinets in this impressive kitchen design have a minimal look, yet the impressive marble countertops and backsplash add a lot of character to the kitchen design. The tall white cabinets by the wall next to the dining table have a curved side, which gives both the interior design and the kitchen a soft organic look.
White Ikea cabinets with brass details and a subway tile backsplash
White kitchen cabinets come in a wide price range and the white Ikea Veddinge kitchen cabinets applied to this kitchen are one of the most affordable options out there. In this kitchen, the basic cabinets are enhanced with a brass faucet and brass cabinet pulls, and backsplash tile.
These all-white kitchen cabinets, walls, and open shelving create a very minimalistic kitchen look that highlights the textural material qualities in the wood accents, concrete floor, and stainless steel faucet.
Cream white cabinets in shaker style with stainless steel hardware and open shelves
This classic kitchen features cream-white kitchen cabinets in shaker style matched up with classic open shelving for a farmhouse kitchen look. The wall color matches the color of the kitchen cabinets for a cohesive look.
Ikea Veddinge white cabinets with black cabinet pulls and black open shelving
Another one of those white kitchens utilizing the extremely affordable Ikea Veddinge cabinets as a base for a more contrasting design aesthetic with black floating shelving, black cabinet pulls, black wall lamps, and a small vintage dining table and chairs.
White cabinets in shaker style with the stainless steel stove in the center stage
The crisp white kitchen cabinets and the round marble tulip dining table in this interior pair up nicely with the large stove and hood in stainless steel in the center of the kitchen. The brass rail for pots and pans above the stove adds a lot of character and the dark wood of the CH24 wishbone chairs adds depth to the material palette.
A minimal shaker design with subtle brass knobs and grey walls
This white kitchen has a shiplap backsplash on the part with lower cabinets exclusively, which brings a lot of character to the room. The green-grey walls make the white kitchen cabinets stand out nicely and the ultra-thin countertop has a very elegant appearance on the clean lines of the kitchen.
A cream-white shaker kitchen with chrome cabinet handles and oak inlays
The warm tone of the cream-white kitchen cabinets in this shaker kitchen has been accentuated by the oak inlays in the open kitchen components and behind the glass cabinet doors. These wood tones are matched by the different wood species on the dining table and the dining chairs and the shaker kitchen has been finished off with chrome details and a limestone countertop.
Minimal white kitchen with white marble tiles and a stainless steel exhaust
The most impressive element in this minimal white kitchen is the beautiful grain in the white marble backsplash that goes high up towards where the stainless steel hood ends. The white kitchen cabinets with integrated handles and the subtle pendant lights finish off this marble-heavy look perfectly.
White cabinets with a shiplap backsplash and black granite countertops
The white kitchen cabinets in shaker style have been combined with a shiplap backsplash and black countertops for a contrasting setting that has been enhanced with a stainless steel fridge and classy open shelving in between the upper cabinets. The black elements come back in the pendant light and the dining chairs as well, which is a nice touch.
Elegant white cabinets combined with natural wood and light grey walls
The elegant white cabinets in this shaker-style kitchen are the lightest element in the space, along with the white Gubi semi pendant and the white dining table by the window.
The combination of the white kitchen cabinets with the chrome hardware and natural stone countertop works well with light grey walls and the wood tones in the open shelving while the Fredericia J39 chairs add a natural touch to the color palette.
This post is for all the coffee and tea lovers among you. While you might want to invest in a gooseneck kettle, especially for pour-over coffee, for all other hot beverages an electric kettle will do the trick.
Since the kettle will be one of those items you will leave out on the counter, it better look good and matches the style of your kitchen, which is why I thought it was time to make a selection of the best electric kettle designs for the modern interior. Because why invest in making your kitchen all nice and then ruin it with ugly appliances?
Below you can find my favorite picks in stainless steel or (BPA-free) plastic, with different capacities, available in different colors, and with different functionalities like preset temperature settings, and safety features.
Vipp electric kettle: a wink to the classic stovetop kettles
The Vipp* electric kettle is made out of powder-coated steel so recognizable in the Vipp product range. The kettle is a highly functional addition to the kitchen and is a modern resemblance to a classic stovetop kettle used in the old times, which is such a nice touch.
The double surface of the kettle functions just like a keep-warm setting (while not being a keep-warm setting that you actively have to turn on) and keeps the water at the desired temperature for longer. The insulation also makes the surface heath-proof. The powder-coated steel exterior of the kettle combined with the non-slip rubber details on the swivel base makes the kettle easy to handle and a stylish addition to any kitchen.
The icon EM77* design by Erik Magnussen was first introduced in the EM77 vacuum jug, which can be found in so many homes in its 40-year existence. The EM77 kettle, which adds the same style to your home as the jug, can hold 1.5l, has a removable limescale filter, and a dry boil safety switch.
Eva Solo Nordic kitchen kettle
This beautiful stainless steel kettle is part of the Nordic kitchen series* from Eva Solo. The electric kettles come in black or stainless steel and have an oak handle that really elevates the design.
The lid can be kept in place while filling or pouring, the spout is drip-free, it has an automatic shut-off, and the kettle has an indicator gauge so you can see how much water you already poured in.
This is certainly one of the most stylish stainless steel kettles I have seen and it’s needless to say the stainless steel variant is my favorite of the two.
Alessi Plisse electric kettle
The Alessi plissé* kettle designed by Michele De Lucchi has beautiful 3D folds that remind you of an haute couture dress. The sculptural design comes in many different colors and becomes a beautiful, decorative object on your kitchen counter. The electric kettle comes in two sizes.
EKG Electric Kettle with temperature control from Corvo, king of gooseneck kettles
While Corvo has the infamous electric gooseneck kettle variant in their assortment, since this is a list of purely electric kettles, I included the Corvo EKG, which is meant purely to boil water and is more of an electric tea kettle. The wooden handle and the matt black metal kettle are so stylish and I love that the electric base is square and slightly bigger than the kettle itself.
The electric kettle has variable temperature control and is engineered for the perfect cup of green tea, coffee, oatmeal, or just about anything that requires hot water. This design doesn’t take up much space in your kitchen either, which is great if you struggle with keeping your countertops available. It’s also the only stylish kettle I found that has a temperature control setting when you don’t want to boil water but rather heat it up.
HAY Sowden kettle
This playful kettle is designed by George Sowden for HAY* and comes in different color variations. The electric tea kettle is easy to clean, has a generously proportioned handle, and has a spout that makes pouring easy. You can find many different kitchen accessories in the Sowden range, so you can match them all in your kitchen design if you like.
Eva Solo Rise electric kettle
The Rise kettle from Eva Solo* can be filled directly through a hole in the lid and comes in a slick white or black color variant. The stainless steel insert can be removed from the kettle, which makes cleaning and removing limescale so much easier than with regular electric tea kettles.
The kettle design includes boil-dry protection and you can also buy a vacuum jug from the same series.
Rosendahl Gran Cru electric kettle
These BPA-free plastic kettles from Rosendahl* come in two colors and hold 1.4l of hot or boiling water. The design has four eye-catching grooves that distinguish this piece from other electric kettles and the base comes in stainless steel or patinated steel depending on the color variation.
You don’t have to remove the lid of the electric kettle to fill or pour the water, which is a nice touch.
Stelton Emma electric kettle
The Emma* electric kettle designed by Holmbäck Nordentoft is aesthetically attractive and has a steel jug combined with a beech wood handle. The cordless kettle has a removable limescale filter, a boiling cycle with dry boil safety, and can hold 1.2l.
Rig Tig Foodie: a small kettle for hot water for 1 or 2 people
The Foodie* electric kettle from Rig Tig is probably the most affordable one on the list yet it’s also easy on the eyes. The high performance of this electric kettle ensures the water to boil quickly with minimum energy consumption.
The kettle also has a removable limescale filter and boil-dry protection. At 1l this is a smaller electric kettle, yet this means it also takes away less countertop space in smaller kitchens.
Stelton Amphora kettle
Named after ancient Greek clay vessels, the Stelton Amphora kettle* designed by Sebastian Holmbäck is inspired by the round body and distinct shoulders of the amphora. The classic shape has a futuristic touch, boil dry protection and a replaceable limescale filter.

Sage green is a perfect color for a kitchen, as it’s a color variation that is more exciting and interesting than a grey or white paint color, yet it’s not as daring and you can still achieve a calm, classy, and serene look in your kitchen. I personally love sage green as a paint color choice and you can go light or slightly darker with the color palette according to your preference.
Below, I selected and listed my top picks of inspiring kitchens with sage green kitchen cabinets and I even added some tips down below for those of you who are looking to give your current kitchen a new sage green paint color.

The white marble countertop contrast so nicely with the country green kitchen cabinets and the grey wall color and I love that the countertop continues in a backsplash behind the stove and sink.
Upper cabinets are only used to integrate the exhaust and in the area above the sink which lightens up the otherwise moody sage color palette.
The green-grey paint color on these beautiful shaker cabinets is so subtle and more toned down than the other sage green cabinet paint colors on the list. The muted shaker cabinets are complemented with a shiplap backsplash in the same color and a beige limestone countertop for a farmhouse kitchen look.
The gold hardware adds a warm touch to this grey-green kitchen and the checkered flooring adds so much contrast to the space. The oak wood dining table and chairs are a great choice to finish off this beautiful look.

The sage green cabinets and the white tiles contrast nicely with the black metal window frames and the black accent wall by the dining area.
While sage green in the kitchen can look very fresh and clean, in this kitchen the wooden countertops really warm up the color palette. Part of the upper cabinets consists of open shelving made out of the same material as the countertops, which is a nice touch that comes back on the back of the kitchen island as well.
The white tiles with the black grout add a little bit of a graphic touch while the salmon flowerpot lampshade adds some character to the pale paint color.

The walls of the kitchen are exposed brick covered in limewash paint which adds an interesting texture to the sage green kitchen.

How to find the best sage green for kitchen cabinets
Don’t have the opportunity to remodel your kitchen yet you still want to have a sage green kitchen? You can always use a paint color on your existing cabinets and give them a little makeover.
To achieve a lighter sage green look on your kitchen cabinets like in some of the examples, go for a muted green like Mizzle from Farrow and Ball* or Guilford Green* by Benjamin Moore. Cromarty Farrow and ball kitchen cabinets are worth a try as well if you are looking for a muted soft effect.
If you are looking for a bold, dark effect, go for a darker green paint color like Pewter green from Sherwin Williams, which pairs up nicely with warm woods and metals.
To find the true green that matches your kitchen space, always work with a sample of the sage green paint colors to see how the color pairs up with the natural lights and existing materials in the space. If you find the right shade and tone, you will love sage green as a kitchen color.
This beautiful townhouse kitchen in Rotterdam belongs to Jeroen Bosman, who I have been following on Instagram for quite a while now. The kitchen is the A collection from Ask Og Eng with a grain finish and a natural stone countertop.
The minimal lines of the dark wood kitchen contrast so nicely against the historical elements of the old townhouse and the simple A7 cross-shelf is the perfect spot to display vintage and travel finds.
Ask Og Eng was founded in 2016 after owners Kine and Kristoffer had built several sustainable kitchens and furniture pieces for themselves. They started out by building kitchens in their garage and now have a really nice collection of sustainable bamboo kitchens to choose from.

If you are looking for more white shaker kitchen designs, have a look at this blog post where I listed 25 of my favorite kitchen designs with white cabinets.
White shaker cabinets with stainless steel details
The simple yet elegant design of the kitchen cabinets works perfectly with the historical elements in the room, like the door moldings and the crown moldings on the ceiling. The surroundings are always something to take inspiration from when planning a kitchen remodel and this was certainly taken into consideration for this kitchen design as well.
The white shaker cabinets pair up nicely with the white countertops and the stainless steel faucet and cabinet handles add a modern touch to the otherwise classy shaker look that is so apparent in the cabinet lines.
The herringbone pattern of the hardwood flooring (not sure which wood species this is) comes back into the pattern of the tile backsplash on the wall and I like the way the grey wall paint is framed by both the crown molding on the top and the tiles on the bottom.
The upper kitchen cabinets have a white trim on top, while the bottom shaker cabinets have a plinth that shares the same shape, connecting the two kitchen cabinets visually.
Mostly base cabinets for a balanced layout
While some upper shaker cabinets have been added to the layout of this kitchen, the base cabinets hold most of the functionality. The module with the fridge is fitted by the door, a great spot where a larger module like this one doesn’t take away any light.
Above the sink, a window has been fitted which looks out into another room, which is a nice touch and it probably gives the room behind it a little bit more daylight. Since this kitchen is quite big, there is ample space for a large dining table in the middle, which has been placed on top of an area rug.
The kitchen in this beautiful Swedish living space is the heart of the interior. Rather than blending in, as a white kitchen would do against these white walls, the oak kitchen cabinets combined with the limestone countertops make the kitchen stand out in a lovely, yet natural way.
Oak kitchen cabinets and a limestone countertop
The oak wood of the kitchen cabinets goes very nicely with the hardwood flooring and adds so much warmth to the otherwise white and minimal space. This warm palette is enhanced by the limestone used for the kitchen countertops. The two materials combine wonderfully and the natural textures in both the oak and in the natural stone add so much texture to the space.
The layout of the kitchen consists of the main block against the wall, which also includes high cabinets and a kitchen island that includes the induction stove and a small extra sink. No wall cabinets are added in this layout so it looks lighter. The walls are kept white, and the white ceiling, wall, and pendant lighting add functional lighting everywhere you might need it, without adding too much distraction from the natural oak and limestone materials.
A round kitchen dining table completes the look
The kitchen is built inside the living space, where a dining table is placed on the other side of the kitchen island. An area rug is used to visually separate the dining area from the kitchen and a slightly darker wood tone is picked out for the dining chairs, which matches the natural color variations in the limestone countertops and the oak in the kitchen.
I think this beautiful farmhouse-style kitchen with sage green kitchen cabinets looks so balanced. It’s a perfect mix of modern elements like the brass handles and faucet, and the limewash paint walls combined with a classic shaker design on the cabinets and shiplap on the walls on the other side of the kitchen.
Sage green cabinets combined with limewash paint and shiplap
So many different materials and textures are combined in this beautiful kitchen with character. The color of the sage green kitchen cabinets stands out against the white stone countertop and the brass details in the peg rail, faucet, and handles.
The wall on one side of the kitchen has been painted with a sage green limewash paint that adds a rustic texture to the otherwise clean and classic lines of the cabinets. The same color is used on the window side and the opposite side of the kitchen on the shiplap walls and backsplash, which makes the white historic door and the classic pendant light stand out in a nice way.
Blue is such a modern and trendy color for a kitchen and you can find this cool color tone in many creative kitchen examples. Blue kitchen cabinets can lift up the design of any regular kitchen, or a more subtle blue kitchen island combined with another color on the main cabinets can be such a beautiful color play that enhances the look and design of the space.
Below I compiled a list of the most inspiring kitchens with blue cabinets. The designs come in many different layouts, with different material compositions and in different shades of blue. Blue cabinets or a blue island complement well with white marble or stainless steel, which enhance the cool undertones of paint, while warm gold and wood tints tend to balance out the look and add warmth.
A blue kitchen island and stainless steel appliances
This beautiful shaker kitchen with navy blue cabinets and a blue kitchen island combines wonderfully with the thin white marble countertop and a low marble backsplash to finish things off. The upper area of the kitchen has been kept white for a light look that matches the light wood floor.
The stainless steel appliances enhance the cool undertones of the deep blue cabinets and the steel comes back in the subtle handles on the cabinets as well.
A shaker kitchen with dark blue cabinets and limestone countertops
This beautiful studio home kitchen has deep, yet slightly pale blue kitchen cabinets in a shaker design with a layout that goes high up to make optimal use of this space in this small studio apartment. The limestone countertops add a warm touch to the space and complement the flooring very nicely. The blue kitchen cabinets start at floor level and continue all the way up to the ceiling for an elegant effect.
A blue kitchen with a light blue kitchen island and a beige shiplap wall
I love the combination of the deep blue in the kitchen cabinets and the lighter blue kitchen island with the grey marble countertop. This combination is interesting in and of itself, yet the beige shiplap wall adds yet another interesting element to this kitchen.
The blue of the cabinets is continued in a glass vitrine next to the dining table and the chrome and cognac leather pulls finish off this look very nicely.
Light blue cabinets combined with white marble and stainless steel
This beautiful home has a subtle yet characterful light blue kitchen with steel handles and white marble countertops combined with a low marble backsplash. The marble brings out the cool tones in the space even more and the minimal design of the cabinets works well with this color palette.
This beautiful pale blue kitchen is from the Real shaker kitchen range of Devol kitchens and I love the color palette of the pale blue combined with the white marble, the off-white walls (‘Pale Nutmeg’ from the Dulux Heritage Collection), and the brass on the cabinet handles. The brass comes back as a backsplash at the stove as well for a cohesive look.
The blue island completes the kitchen and other than holding the sink, you can also sit at the breakfast bar with two people. The flooring has been painted in Cornforth White by Farrow & Ball* which gives the space a light look and highlights the all-blue kitchen in a subtle way.
The combination of the cool tones in the cabinets and the beautiful warm brown tones in the marble countertop and backsplash is so powerful in this turn-of-the-century apartment. The palette is pretty dark altogether, so the chrome hardware and faucet add a fresh and lighter touch to the space.
Deep blue paint combined with a subway tile backsplash
The kitchen in this beautiful Swedish home has such a beautiful combination of materials. The white tiles with black grout contrast so nicely with the blue kitchen cabinets, the beige wall, and the exposed brick section in the dining area of this kitchen.
I like the clean touch the chrome handles add to the dark blue kitchen cabinets and the white countertops make the transition between the blue paint on the cabinets and the beige paint on the wall smooth in a way. The galley layout of the kitchen is perfect for this space.
A blue island as a separator combined with beige kitchen cabinets
In this majestic living kitchen, the blue kitchen island is used to separate the living area from the kitchen. Rather than combining the blue islands with more blue kitchen cabinets, the design looks more balanced and subtle with the two-tone color choice.
Shaker cabinets with blue painted combined with a subway tile backsplash
This Swedish home has a large kitchen with the most beautiful herringbone flooring. The warm tones of the wood floors are contrasted with the cool undertones of the blue kitchen cabinets and brightened up with the white tile backsplash. Upper cabinets are only used on the wall furthest from the window and finished off with white trim on top. This makes the layout of the kitchen much lighter and I like the floating shelf that has been covered with the same blue paint color.
A wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling light blue kitchen
I love the way this light blue kitchen covers the entire wall, giving it a very minimal and seamless look. This minimal style of the light blue kitchen cabinets and the white marble countertops and backsplash has been contrasted with the bentwood chairs at the dining table and the colorful rug underneath.
Blue kitchen cabinets with gold accents and sage green walls
The blue kitchen combined with a natural wood kitchen island in this old station house is such a masterpiece. Half the kitchen walls have been lined with subway tile, which goes over into the sage green paint on the upper part. The deep blue color of the cabinets is enhanced with beautiful gold accents in the handles, which make a beautiful focal point in the space. The gold faucet and the subtle gold light fixtures add elegance, while the kitchen island adds a timeless look to the space.
A light blue and blue-green kitchen with green flooring
The kitchen in this characterful home has a beautiful mix of light teal and light blue kitchen cabinets combined with teal flooring. The light blue cabinets work wonderfully together with the green-blue tints, the wood countertops, and the cognac leather of the dining chairs. Such a characterful space full of color trends and personality.
The muted blue color on this Sebastian Cox Kitchen from deVOL works wonderfully together with the copper countertops and backsplash, which also comes back in the small detail of the cabinet handles. The walls have been painted in a lighter blue tint, which matches the vitrine cupboard that has been hung on the wall.
A classic blue kitchen with a ceiling-high subway tile wall
While blue cabinets tend to work a bit more modern, the blue kitchen in this beautiful apartment has a bit more of a rustic and classic look. The white porcelain sink combined with the vintage round dining table and the wood open shelving adds a cozy touch to this space and I think the little pendant light above the table finishes off the look in such a perfect way.
Blue paint on modest shaker cabinets with gold accents
This blue kitchen is finished off with subway tile as well, yet I think the way the coffee corner has been finished off with the same tile is quite interesting. The exposed brick wall and the gold handles on the cabinets warm up the cool tones of the blue kitchen and the gold faucet finishes the look off nicely.
A blue kitchen island, stainless steel appliances, and limestone countertops
This beautiful Swedish home has a characterful blue kitchen with limestone countertops and a blue kitchen island that separates the kitchen from the living area in an elegant way. The limestone is also used as a backsplash and the stainless steel appliances cabinet handles and faucet add a clean and elegant touch to the space.
A light blue kitchen island in an all-white attic apartment
The blue kitchen island is the center of this living kitchen and also the biggest element in terms of layout. The walls have quite an awkward shape, yet the kitchen has been fitted in perfectly. The light blue kitchen island also serves as a separator between the dining area and the kitchen and I like that the back side of the blue kitchen island has open shelving for the most cherished porcelain pieces.
The stainless steel countertops match so nicely with the modern color palette of the kitchen and give it a clean look.
The blue kitchen in this Swedish home with stainless steel appliances, chrome handles and faucet, and white marble countertops has a very cool appearance, yet this is balanced out so nicely with the characterful vintage dining table and chairs that add such a warmth to the space.
The stained oak upper cabinets in this beautiful kitchen create an interesting contrast with the lower cabinets in blue. The beautiful limestone countertop finishes it off nicely and connects the two-toned upper and lower cabinets together. The kitchen island is fully made out of the same limestone as the countertops and backsplash and I think the pendant lights with black detailing finish it all off perfectly.
Navy blue kitchen cabinets with white marble countertops and a kitchen island
This classy navy blue kitchen works so well in this turn-of-the-century space and complements the wall paneling and crown molding perfectly. The navy blue cabinets are finished off with white marble countertops and chrome hardware for a classy look with clean lines.
The kitchen modules are spread over one single wall, with a blue kitchen island in the middle, leaving ample space for a spacious dining table with beautiful Black Carl Hansen & Son Wishbone chairs on the other side.
Blue shaker cabinets and open shelving in the same color
The white walls and the warm wood herringbone flooring in this historic kitchen are contrasted by deep blue shaker cabinetry and chrome and black hardware. The white marble countertops make the transition from the cabinet color to the wall smoother and the deep blue open shelving on the wall is a great spot to add home design items on display.
The blue cabinets in this kitchen are finished off with a white tile backsplash and a light wood countertop material. Both the tiles and countertop contrast nicely with the dark cool undertones on the cabinets and the white farmhouse sink just seems to pop out of this beautiful setting.
A crisp White Interior with a Modern Dark Blue Kitchen
The blue kitchen cabinet color stands out in this all-white turn-of-the-century room with high ceilings. What’s special about this particular example is that the stove hood has the same color as the kitchen cabinets.
White shaker cabinets, marble countertops, and a shiplap backsplash
The simple white shaker cabinets in this beautiful Swedish apartment look wonderful combined with the shiplap backsplash for a minimal, yet classy effect in the space. The white cabinets, white countertops, and white-soaped hardwood flooring have a very minimal effect, yet the shiplap backsplash adds an element of personality and texture that draws attention.
What to pay attention to when deciding on a shiplap backsplash
Shiplap backsplashes can transform a space and add a vintage touch, but can easily make the layout look heavy on the eyes. When it comes to picking out a shiplap kitchen backsplash, you can be as subtle or as elaborate as you like. You can contrast it with minimal kitchen elements, or pair it up with a farmhouse sink to enhance the vintage effect.
Keep your shiplap backsplash subtle
I feel like a subtle surface of vertical shiplap backsplash, just in the lower area above the countertops has a perfect balance. Note that in this example, the shiplap backsplash is only applied to the kitchen area that has base cabinets only, which allows the layout to breathe and have a better flow.
The practicality of a shiplap backsplash
Note also that a shiplap backsplash can be a great alternative to other surfaces, but be careful when selecting this treatment above the stove or sink as dirt and water might get stuck in between the gaps of the shiplap backsplash. Applying it above cabinets that are purely meant for storage like in this example might work best.
White countertops and white cabinets
The marble countertops brighten the white kitchen cabinets and completely transform the simple lines of the cabinets. In the area of the sink, the designers opted for a slim marble backsplash rather than a shiplap backsplash, which looks very elegant. On this side of the kitchen, upper cabinets are applied, so the layout is naturally busier.
A round dining table in a warm wood tone
The subtle soap-washed brown floor, the white cabinets combined with the sage green on the walls all have a very clean, and cool effect in the space, which has been balanced out by the different wood species in the round dining table, the dining chairs, and the wood shelves on the wall.
Sage green paint on the walls for a fresh effect
While the interior design of the kitchen itself is kept white and simple, it’s the safe green paint color on the wall that adds that little something extra to the kitchen. The fresh sage green contrast with the subtle warm brown floor and dining table and the brass hardware on the cabinet handles and faucet.
The sage green paint color enhances the white of the kitchen cabinets and the shiplap backsplash. Imagine this wall color with gray cabinets or even black cabinets and it wouldn’t work that well together. Gray cabinets would go better with a warmer wall color, while as black cabinets might go well with black or white countertops and a contrasting light wall color.
Is sage green a good colour for a kitchen?
Sage green is a perfectly subtle color for kitchen walls as it is a nondominant color, but at the same time, when combined with light or white shaker cabinets, it can be a great focal point in an otherwise neutral setting. Sage green paint tends to make the room feel bigger and brighter.
Subtle sage green paint colors to give a try combined with white kitchen cabinets
Mizzle from Farrow & Ball* is named after the mixture when there is both mist and drizzle. This sage green is a lighter shade of grey with green pigments that diminish any cool undertones. Mizzle makes the natural light in a room feel soft.
Eddy from Farrow & Ball* is a calm and soft green that stands in close connection with nature, which makes it perfect alongside natural materials. This sage green paint looks fresh, yet calm and relaxing. It’s delicate in tone without going too much into a pastel tone.
