In my bedroom

post

The bedroom is very slowly coming together, though I still need to paint, hang up curtains and install a ceiling lamp. All those things take so much time when moving into a new home and since I’m not the most handy person I just keep procrastinating drilling holes. I really need to get more comfortable with my drill and screwdriver, that’s something to work on this year !

My living room and the grey wall color

post

My living room is coming together a little bit more and even though I’m sure I will be changing things around in the weeks to come I’m pretty happy with the general look and layout.

Every single time I share a picture of the grey wall I have painted, I get questions about the color I have used and I would like to take this opportunity to mention something about wall colors. First of all, I edit my pictures and even though I only use natural light and keep my picture editing to a minimum to achieve a natural look, this can make a wall color look quite different as in the picture (you can even see the difference in the two pictures I have shared). Second, my living room is facing east, which means it gets quite a warm light and this has an influence on how the grey looks as well.

The way I defined the color is by color matching items that I thought were looking great in this corner, like the grey plant box and the sofa cover. Then I tried to find a color that would match this. I have used a custom color (S 1500-N) on this wall and had it mixed at my local paint shop into a paint with a matt finish. For those of you who are interested to use the same color, please make sure to use a sample first, as the color might look entirely different on your walls, depending on the light, flooring and the colors of the items you have in the room.

Bathroom details

post

I’m very happy with the choices that were made during the renovations of the bathroom of my new apartment. I’m renting this apartment, so I think I was quite lucky to have a landlord with such great taste. The Brass fittings and the black marble floor really stand out and I feel like I should do it justice and not overload this minimal design with a bunch of ugly cosmetics.

I started to lay out my pretty tubes and soaps (second picture) but for every pretty item there is of course a multitude of ugly cosmetics waiting to be hidden in a smart bathroom storage solution.

Kitchen view

post

It took some getting used to the all white kitchen in my new place (the kitchen I designed in our previous home was grey and black as seen here) but I already started to love the clean look. I think it makes the living kitchen look bigger as well, which is a big plus.

I was debating painting the wall above the white open shelving in a light grey, but as many of you suggested on this picture on Instagram, I will wait a little bit and see what I think in a few months time. I’m however looking into a round dining table that is not white to bring some more texture to this look. Any ideas on which design would fit in with all the white ?

Snapshot from my kitchen

post

A snapshot I shared on my Instagram the other day showing you my new kitchen. Compared to the black and grey kitchen I had in the other apartment, this one is so bright and white, I’m still trying to figure out how to decorate it. I might paint the wall above the shelving grey, just to make it a bit less white, what do you think ?

I really like the brass details of the Vola faucet, and the Superfront Holy wafer handles. They really stand out against all the white.

The Spanish Chair special edition in my new home

post

As some of you might have seen from my previous post on Instagram, I just moved into a new apartment here in Munich. The whole place is pretty much still a chaos with walls of boxes to be unpacked, but I’m pretty happy with how my living room corner turned out already. It’s the first place that I wanted to finish, because it’s so nice to have a spot to relax and feel calm during all the unpacking.

You might notice some of the items from my previous living room, but the piece that makes this whole look complete definitely is the iconic Spanish Chair from Fredericia – the 60 years special edition no less ! I love how the olive green saddle leather combines with the solid soaped oak frame and the golden details on the leather closures. The chair fits perfectly with the flooring in my new place which has a warmer wood tint.

The Spanish Chair – usually available in the standard color options – celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. It was designed by Børge Mogensen in 1958 and manufactured by Fredericia ever since. The special edition you see in my living room was launched for the occasion of the anniversary and will only be available until December 31st of this year. To honour Børge Mogensen’s work, Fredericia searched the master’s archive and discovered this subtle, natural colour, which was one of his most loved hues and one of the dominating interior colours at the time.

To celebrate this special anniversary, Fredericia invited Børge Mogensen’s grandson, renowned fashion photographer Rasmus Mogensen, to portrait himself with the masterpiece created by his granddad in 1958. You can read an interview with him here.

This blogpost was created in collaboration with Fredericia, however all thoughts and opinions are my own. If you would like to see how the Spanish chair is made, you can watch this fun video.

Living room transformation with Bemz

post

When designing a home for yourself, you have to take the time and think about what works in the space, but also get to know your own taste and try out different things that make you feel comfortable. After two years of living in this apartment, I feel like most rooms are coming together by now, but the living room was always the hardest room to work with. I’m very happy with the turn of the century ceiling painting that was kept intact and I think it’s absolutely beautiful, but it also makes it more difficult to decorate this room.

I recently started introducing tints of beige and grey into the living room and added a warmer beige tint of curtains to the windows. I really loved the warm touch these items gave the total look and decided to paint the living room wall in a very warm light grey to match the other grey and beige items that I think work so nicely in this room. This color works great with the warm tints of painted ceiling as well.

Those of you who follow me on Instagram might have noticed that I recently changed our old sofa with an Ikea Söderhamn 3 seater customised with a Bemz Loose Fit cover in in a dark grey linen, also shown in the last three pictures of this blogpost. I really like this change, as the old sofa was just too big for this long and narrow room. Bemz makes custom covers for IKEA furniture with loads of high end fabrics to completely transform your IKEA furniture to reflect your own style.

After painting the wall and introducing some more beige items, I decided to also update the sofa to match this lighter and warmer color scheme. After placing an order for a few fabric samples to get a feeling for the color and fabric texture, chose a cover in Silver Grey Simply Linen. I love to have the option to change the look of the sofa and to be able to wash the cover when needed.

While usually people go for darker colors when the colder months are about to arrive, I feel like this change into a lighter, yet warmer and tone-on-tone color palette looks more soft and cozy. It’s a true pleasure to cuddle up in this corner now that the evenings are getting darker and colder and I finally feel like the look of this room is coming together.

Getting to know what works for you and your home is a slow process and you can learn a lot by changing small things like pillows, blankets, prints and small accessories. Being able to change the cover of a sofa is such an easy way to give a room an update or refresh. I’m someone that likes to change things around at home constantly and love that I can now switch between the two covers and possibly new fabrics to keep updating this look.

Which look do you prefer? The regular fitting sofa cover or the relaxed aesthetic of loose fit linen cover? Bemz is giving all Coco Lapine Design readers a 20% discount with the code ’20cocolapine’ starting now until November 18th, so if you are thinking about upgrading your Ikea sofa, now might be the perfect time !

This blogpost was created in collaboration with Bemz Design, however all opinions are my own of course.
