107 Chair by Robert Stadler
Austrian designer Robert Stadler’s designed a new bistro chair for Thonet, as an update for the classic 214 Bistro chair. Nowadays, the original 214 chair is rather expensive, because the back of the chair still is produced in a rather traditional way. For the 107 chair to be manufactured in a cost-efficient way, the curves of the 214 chair were replaced by straight lines. It is produced in an almost totally automated process. Other than the cost efficiency, I think it’s a well-designed update, worthy of replacing the 214 chair.
