This is the gorgeous home of Melanie Ireland – designer for Simple Kids – in Belgium. The high ceilings, sanded floors and large windows speak for themselves and not to cover everything up, the interior design and furniture was kept simple yet interesting.

When architect Vincent Van Duysen put his hands on this place, he removed all unnecessary walls, so that the light could naturally flow throughout the house. Instead of using walls as separators, the furniture was placed in a strategic way, to create separations. A few eye-catching pendant lamps where hung, to draw the attention to the decorated ceiling and a large mirror was placed on the fireplace to reflect the large walls and make the place look even bigger. Did you see the piles of magazines inside the fireplace, by the way ? I think this is a very original place to store them, and a good alternative for the traditional book shelf.

Dit is de prachtige woning van Melanie Ireland – ontwerper voor Simple Kids – in België. De hoge plafonds, lichte vloeren en grote ramen trekken terecht all aandacht, en om niet alles te bedekken is het interieur en de meubelen heel simpel gehouden.

Wanneer architect Vincent Van Duysen dit huis renoveerde, verwijderde hij alle onnodige muren, zodat het licht natuurlijk kon binnen stromen. In plaats van de muren als afschermers te gebruiken zijn de meubelen in de ruimte geplaatst op een strategische manier, om zo kleinere ruimten te creëren. Een paar eye-cather lusters maken het geheel af en een grote spiegel boven de open haard laat de muren reflecteren en maakt de ruimte zelfs nog groter. Hebben jullie ook de stapel boeken gezien in de open haard ? Ik had dit al eerder gezien, en vind dit echt een leuk alternatief voor de traditionele boekenkast.
