Kube X by GSI Ceramica

post

A little while ago, I introduced you to Italian brand GSI Ceramica, who make beautiful bathroom ceramics and combine traditional craftsmanship with evolving technical innovations in Research and Development. I got to see the Color Elements collection samples with my own eyes and made a little moodboard of how I would design a bathroom with both the Cenere and Agave colors. Today though, I will be going into depth a little bit more about one of their high quality timeless collections: Kube X.

When you design a bathroom, rather than focussing on the latest trend, in my opinion you should pay attention to timeless design. You will have the same bathroom for years to come, so it’s best to carefully consider high quality elements that can stand the test of time in terms of durability, quality but also aesthetics. This is actually the case not only for bathroom elements, but for every piece of furniture in your home as well. If you make the investment in a quality item, you want to do it right and carefully consider it so you can have it for a long time.

The Kube X collection was designed out of the need for contemporary elements with paired down lines and slender edges. These minimal designs offer so many possibilities and can be fit within a modern bathroom of any type. The white or Cenere glazing of the pieces can fit in perfectly with any material of wall and floor covering and can easily be paired up with black, chrome or even brass tabs depending on the look you prefer. The clean lines of the pieces have a very subtile and quiet presence, without being shouty. They leave room for adding personality, but look beautiful on their own as well. They can be paired up with different fixtures and the square washbasins offer many different installation options: wall hung, on a countertop or on a mobile support so you can truly design the bathroom of your preference.

The sanitary ware are wall hung as well and come with Extraglaze® glazing which is a new ceramic glaze which minimizes the formation of surface pores. This makes the ceramic surface smoother, brighter and easily washable so that less detergent and water is needed during cleaning. GSI ceramica made a little video where they tested cleaning pencil stains. I wish my bathroom had this, just imagine how much time you would save cleaning !

The collection also includes the Swirlflush® patented flushing system, which uses only 4,5l with each flush instead of the 9l that are commonly used in a flushing system. This is a very nice touch and this feature alone would already convince me of this collection. On their website, you can see a series of tests they did with the Swirlflush® so you can see what happens when you flush different materials (ink and saw dust for example, but also regular toilet paper – they are very fun to watch). The ink is the most impressive one I think, I just don’t want to know what would happen if I were to try this in my toilet at home !

In summary, I think the Kube X collection offers everything you might need to design a timeless and high quality bathroom which you can customise with your own choice of surface materials and water fixtures. The design is timeless yet contemporary, so you won’t get tired of it and the high quality materials and technology make this collection a long lasting option for a bathroom that can stand the test of time.

Pura by GSI Ceramica

post

I have mentioned GSI Ceramica and their beautiful collection of bathroom elements on the blog here before (see here and here in case you missed it). The high end Italian brand is known for combining traditional craftsmanship with evolving technical innovations in Research and Development. In my first post, I talked about the color elements, and made my own moodboard with how I would decorate a bathroom with two of my favorite colors: Cenere and Agave. In the second post I highlighted the Kube X collection and today I wanted to take you along with me to discover the Pura collection: a line that stands out for its rational design and like all GSI products, they embody the value of simplicity, precision, technological innovation and excellent quality.

The Pura collection is made of conservative shapes that skilfully balance straight lines and soft rounding as a result of a long design and development process. The purity and essence of the range has a temporary elegance yet the design is very timeless. If you take a look at the model bathroom pictures above, the white Pura elements stand out among the beautiful dark green walls and the wooden fixtures, yet they have this quiet, subtile presence that can stand the test of time both in terms of quality and design.

Timeless design is very important when thinking about designing a bathroom, because you will have it for many years to come. Rather than following trends, you should pick a design that you will still be happy with in the next years. You could give the bathroom shown in the pictures above a small upgrade after a while and easily work with different light fixtures or a different color on the wall, while I’m sure the timeless pieces of the Pura collection would still fit in perfectly 10 years. It gives you so many possibilities over the years and if you would like to opt for a different color for the semibuilt-in washbasins, they are available in all Color Elements or a white matt finishing.

When you want to design a bathroom that can stand the test of time, quality is of course very important as well. The washbasins and sanitary ware of the Pura collection include the Extraglaze® finishing  (just like the Kube X collection, highlighted in my previous post), which is a technically advanced ceramic surface that is chemical-resistant, smooth and shiny – and it will keep these characteristics unchanged over time. It improves cleanliness and hygiene, which is such a big plus too (I hate cleaning the bathroom).  You can see a fun video here, where GSI tested pencil and ink stains on both a sink with a traditional glaze and with the Extraglaze® finishing.

Other then the Pura collection, you can also see the Compstone shower tray in the above bathroom design (you can see it up close in the last picture in the color Agave). The shower tray is created out of an innovative composite material that combines the look and feel of a natural mineral stone with the technical performance of a polyester resin. The Compstone shower tray is customisable and can be made to order in any RAL color you prefer, making it a perfect element for your personal needs when designing your bathroom.

I love the concept bathroom created in these images. The combination of the dark green, with the soft wood, the contrasting black light fixtures and the crisp white and clean porcelain pieces works great together. The nice thing about these minimal elements though is that they could work in a completely different setup and color palette just as nicely. It’s up to you what kind of bathroom you would like to design, but I think the Pura elements offer a really great base to start creating your timeless yet contemporary, high quality bathroom.

Extraglaze Antibacterial enamel by GSI Ceramica

post

I have talked about GSI Ceramica and their innovations for the bathroom here on the blog before. The high end Italian brand is known for their evolving technical innovations in Research and Development and today I wanted to tell you a little bit more about their Extraglaze® Antibacterial enamel technology, which is a material enriched with silver and titanium ions that ensure 99.99% antibacterial action, easier and faster cleaning and greater shine.

No matter how you design a space, the design and aesthetics always have to go hand in hand with functionality. This is even more important in the bathroom, where it’s so crucial that the design is supported by hygiene, durability and reliability. Cleaning and hygiene are a big part of what we do in the bathroom and when designing a bathroom space it’s important to pick out elements that can helps us maintain a clean and hygienic bathroom for years to come, without too much effort.

The R&D department at GSI Ceramica has developed a number of patented extras, which are included in almost all their collections. The Extraglaze®Antibacterial ceramic finishing is one of these innovations (along with the Swirlflush® patented flushing system, which uses only 4,5l with each flush instead of the commonly used 9l – you can read more about this in my previous blogpost), which ensures anti-bacterial protections and renders surfaces extremely smooth and polished for a perfect hygiene that is easy to achieve and maintain.

The Extraglaze®Antibacterial ceramic finishing is present on all the GSI products in the beautifully designed bathroom space in the pictures. The interior features a simple collection of products with a minimal style, which can be customised to meet a wide range of spaces and requirements and its minimal design can stand the test of time. Once combined with accessories and fixtures, this range creates a pleasing, functional elegant and minimal bathroom space. When at any time you would like to have a little bathroom update, you can just update the accessories and wall treatment. The sanitary range will fit with tiles, wood and all types of  fixtures. It’s very versatile, with possibilities to add towel racks and different installation options. I think the range would fit in so many different bathrooms, yet its simplicity has a certain elegance to it that just speaks for itself in a powerful, yet minimalistic way.

I love that the bathroom space is designed as a tranquil space in a modern home. The dark wood panelling on the walls provides the perfect backdrop for the minimal washbasins, wall hung wc’s, and bidets, which all contrast so nicely against the darker wood. All the sanitary ware in the pictures has the Extraglaze®Antibacterial ceramic finishing which reduces surface irregularities to a minimum. This prevents lime deposits, leaves the surfaces shinier, reduces bacteria counts and makes cleaning easier.  Anyone living in Germany like myself, where the water is so hard can certainly appreciate not having to wipe down scaling every other day right ? The anti-bacterial formula is also applied to all the GSI Ceramic seats and covers, wich makes them very hygienic. The GSI toilets are glazed internally in every part that comes into contact with water, including the drain, which avoids absorption of waster water and unpleasant odours.

This might be the less thought of aspect when designing a bathroom, but it’s just as important as picking the right design, if not actually more important. Think about how many years you will live with the same bathroom and how often you use or clean it. It’s so important to make the right decisions when picking out sanitary ware.
