The dining table fills the space in front of the window and is paired with natural wood dining chairs. The wall next to the doorway leading up to the kitchen features a black glass cabinet which adds a beautiful contrast to the light palette in the kitchen.
A living and sleeping space with light blue walls and warm textiles
The play between warm and cool tones is especially apparent in the living and sleeping areas of the apartment, where bigger surfaces of the light blue wall color are visible. The mixture of pink, red, and beige tones on the sofa and art prints paired with the brown on the coffee tables add an earthy tone palette to the setting.

A small white sideboard provides limited storage behind the bed and a large round mirror makes the space appear bigger.

The entryway includes a spacious wardrobe and since this area of the apartment is quite large, it can hold a home office area as well. The wood tones of the desk and chair match the bench below the coat rack.
Just like in the rest of the apartment, the cool light blue wall color is balanced out with warm tones in the accessories and furniture pieces.

The beige area rug fills the entire width of the space and adds a cozy texture to the sofa area, which is paired with a glass coffee table and a teddy armchair.
The corner in between two doorways is an ideal spot for a mint green sideboard that stands out in the space because of its color. The small mirror above it reflects the space and the combination of the candle wall sconce with the art prints above the chair finishes the decor off nicely.
Beige textiles and white walls in the main bedroom
The spacious bedroom with white walls has a bed in the middle, a rattan daybed in front of the window, and a green-painted antique cabinet on the wall opposite the window. The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the house. It’s a place where we start and end our day, so it’s important to make sure it reflects our style. One of the best ways to add personality and style to your bathroom is with wallpaper.
Not only can wallpaper take care of irregularities in your walls, but the right wallpaper design can elevate your space and give it the right look. In the list below, you can find the best bathroom wallpaper ideas for you to get inspired by.
Your best bet if you are unsure about your design choice is peel-and-stick wallpaper, however, you can also start with a single wall to try out the look in your space.
Benefits of Using Wallpaper in the Bathroom
Wallpaper is an easy solution to add color and pattern to any room. Wallpaper can brighten up a dull bathroom and can transform the space to make it stylish, modern, and inviting.
When you pick the right wallpaper kind, it can withstand the humidity and moisture in a bathroom space, allowing it to deal with a lot of condensation when showering. Wallpaper is also easier to clean than paint, allowing for easy maintenance.
Finally, wallpaper is relatively inexpensive, especially when compared to tiling. This makes it a great option for those on a budget. There are many different styles and colors of wallpaper available, so you should be able to find something to suit your taste and style.
Adding Personality and Style to your bathroom or powder room
Wallpaper designs come in all kinds of patterns and colors ranging from textured wallpaper, graphic wallpaper, or intricate patterns in many different shades and colorways.
Don’t be afraid to get creative with your bathroom wallpaper ideas. With so many options available, there’s sure to be a wallpaper that’s perfect for your space. And don’t worry if you’re not sure how to apply wallpaper to your bathroom. There are plenty of easy-to-use peel-and-stick wallpaper options that make the process quick and painless.
In the below example, a simple bathroom space is enhanced with a bold pattern wallpaper in deep blue tints, which adds a unique and personal effect to the space.
There is a plethora of wallpaper styles and colors to choose from. You can go with a classic pattern, like stripes or florals, or opt for something more modern, like geometric shapes or even a bold, graphic print.
When it comes to color, you can make a statement with a bright and bold wallpaper, or create a soothing and relaxing space with a neutral palette.
Practical Benefits: Hiding Imperfections and Easy Maintenance
Bathroom wallpaper can be a great way to cover up imperfections in your walls, such as cracks, chips, and holes. Adding bathroom wallpaper can give your space a neater appearance and make it easier to clean.
The right bathroom wallpaper is much easier to clean than paint, and it won’t chip or peel over time. This makes it an ideal choice for high-traffic areas like bathrooms.
Considerations Before Choosing Bathroom Wallpaper
You don’t need to be an interior designer to pick out the right bathroom wallpaper, but there are some things you need to take into consideration. The size of your bathroom, the style and mood you want to achieve, the color palette, and the budget are all elements you need to take into account.
Even more importantly, you should make sure the bathroom wallpaper design you pick can stand the moisture created in a bathroom space.
Moisture Resistance
The most important thing to keep in mind when selecting a bathroom wallpaper is that it’s moist and even water-resistant. Condensation from taking showers makes a bathroom a very humid place, where only a particular kind of wallpaper can be used.
Vinyl wallpaper is made from a type of plastic and does not degrade over time. It’s resistant to moisture, does not develop mold, and can even stand up to some splashes and spills.
Pre-pasted wallpaper has a special adhesive that is activated by water. Once the adhesive is activated, it creates a seal that helps to keep moisture out.
Whatever type of bathroom wallpaper you choose, make sure that you read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. This will help you to ensure that you are using the wallpaper correctly and that you are taking the necessary steps to protect it from moisture.
Consider the size of the bathroom when selecting a wallpaper design
If you have a small bathroom, you’ll want to select a wallpaper design that is relatively simple and not too busy. Too much pattern or color can make a small space feel even smaller. If you have a large bathroom, you can afford to be a little more bold with your wallpaper choice. A busy wallpaper design can make a large bathroom feel more cozy and inviting.
If you have a small bathroom, you can use wallpaper to make it feel larger. Choose a light-colored or neutral wallpaper and pair it with brighter accents to give the illusion of more space.
Choose a Pattern that Inspires You
There are a lot of different options to choose from when it comes to wallpaper patterns. If you want something classic and timeless, a striped wallpaper is a great option. If you are looking for something a little more modern, geometric patterns are a great choice.
There are also a lot of fun and unique patterns available that can add personality to your space. Floral patterns are always popular, and there are also a lot of options that feature animals, fruits, and other fun designs.
When it comes to choosing the right wallpaper for your home, the most important thing is to choose something that you love. With so many different options available, it is easy to find a pattern that inspires you.
Making a Statement with an Accent Wall
The bold patterns in this floral wallpaper make a statement in this small bathroom section. The contrast between the bold pattern and dark color of the floral wallpaper and the crisp white tiles on the bottom half of the wall has such a great effect on the room, which can elevate the design of small bathrooms especially.
Highlight the Ceiling Height with bold floral wallpaper
This small powder room makes up in ceiling height for what it lacks in floor space. The beautiful floral wallpaper design makes the white fixtures and oval mirror stand out, while also highlighting the height of the space.
When you pick out a bathroom wallpaper with saturated colors, you will achieve a grand effect. This luxe wallpaper design with a deep green color has a classic golden pattern that enhances the look of the walls in this classic primary bath.
The wallpaper pairs well with the elegant white wainscoting and with the subtle hexagon tile flooring in this space. These different patterns work well together and create an interesting texture in the space.
Traditional wallpaper with a floral pattern for a romantic look
Floral wallpaper can be bold, however, it can also add a very classic and vintage touch to your bathroom space. This white wallpaper with a delicate blue and grey floral pattern complements the vintage wall cabinet and the classic bathroom sink.
A charming wallpaper can add the finishing touch to your classic bathroom design and works great in a powder room as well.
Eclectic Bathroom Makeover with a statement wallpaper design
While interior designers will typically advise you to keep the wallpaper pattern for a small powder room or guest bathroom small and subtle, there are exceptions to every rule. The bold patterned wallpaper in this small guest bathroom adds a modern take to a classic bathroom interior design.
The black and white zebra pattern on the dark green background contrasts with the white wainscoting and the white bathroom elements in such a powerful way.

Add a Touch of Glamour with a Metallic Wallpaper
A metallic touch can add a glamorous and elegant effect to a bathroom design. In this beautiful bathroom space with white wainscoting, a dusty pink wallpaper design with gold details creates a luxurious look and feel.
The beautiful designs on the floor and wall complement to gold and pink in the wallpaper perfectly.
The botanical wallpaper used in this gorgeous bathroom with wooden windows adds a dark and moody effect to the space because of its dark color palette.
The dark green and beige tones in the wallpaper design make the white tiles and the one-of-a-kind stone sink stand out perfectly.
Introducing Modern Patterns with Geometric Wallpaper
In this classic white bathroom, a geometric pattern wallpaper adds a variation in texture to the top half of the wall above the glossy subway tiles. The intricate pattern elevates the interior design of the space and the set of 4 art prints on the wall break up the patterned wallpaper.
In the example below, a geometric wallpaper design in sage green accentuates the sloped ceiling and the distressed wood of the classic bathroom door and vanity. While this pattern works well in this spacious bathroom, it’s a versatile design that could also work in powder rooms, a guest bath, or a half bath.
The top half of this stark white bathroom with glossy white subway tiles and a vintage bathtub is finished with a green accent wallpaper that is a true focal point in this otherwise white space.
Large wallpapered bathrooms tend to look a bit overwhelming, yet by finishing half of the wall with tiles, and pairing it with Victorian floor tiling, the classic wallpaper pattern becomes an elegant addition.
For this bathroom renovation, the interior designer picked out a bold and dark art-deco patterned wallpaper that adds a subtle and elegant vintage appearance to the space. Dark shades will work best in well-lit places and a large mirror will break up the dark bathroom wallpaper on the walls.
Pick a playful wallpaper to transform your bathroom
If you’re tired of your bathroom feeling like a bland, boring space, consider using wallpaper to inject some personality and style. Pick a playful wallpaper to transform your bathroom into a fun and inviting space.
In the example below, a blue and white bathroom wallpaper transforms this basic powder room into a space that looks like it was done by an interior designer. The blue and white shell pattern has a playful effect and adds a lot of fun to the white tiles and white sink.
If you like to change the look of your powder room often, or if you’re unsure about your choice, go for a removable wallpaper. Powder rooms tend to have such a small surface anyway, which makes them cost-efficient to renew every once in a while.
Subtle wallpaper designs for a modest bathroom look
If you like to add wallpaper to your bathroom design but want to achieve a modest and quiet look, you can go for light colors, or solid colors that have a subtle pattern. From afar, the walls will look like they are painted, yet from up close, you will notice the subtle pattern addition of the wallpaper.

The walnut vanity is paired with a black mirror and black fixtures for a modern effect.
In the area underneath the sloped roof, you can find a washing machine smartly built inside of a cabinet that is painted in the same color as the walls.
Last month I traveled to Denmark to visit the Carl Hansen & Søn factory in Gelsted, Denmark. Throughout the years, the brand has had a strong focus on preserving Danish design classics to gather the best, most iconic modern furniture designs under one roof.
What makes their iconic furniture pieces truly unique is the craftsmanship with which they are created. Each piece of furniture requires hours of handcraft before it leaves the factory.
The factory is one of the most modern furniture production facilities in Northern Europe, with a focus on craftsmanship and sustainability. It has 550 employees and the level of skills that go into the production of the furniture pieces is something I was so impressed by.
During my visit, I was able to take a closer look at the production process of the CH24 Wishbone chair, a true Danish Design icon made by Hans J. Wegner in 1950 and still today one of the most recognizable chair designs out there.
The Apprentice workshop: forming the Future of Craftsmanship
Since quality craftsmanship is the foundation of Carl Hansen & Søn, training more cabinet makers and craftsmen is of the utmost importance to the brand. With the brand’s apprentice workshop, they can meet growing demands and preserve the craftsmanship in Denmark.
The apprenticeship training takes almost 4 years, combining periods in the apprentice workshop, at technical college, and in production. Their first project is a toolbox for their woodworking tools, which is made with a handsaw and traditional supplies. They learn to make different kinds of joints, such as finger and dovetail joints, sanding methods, cut-outs, weaving, and many more machine and hand skills.
The apprentices also learn how to make fixtures for internal use, and how to restore vintage furniture and create commissioned pieces. The combination of these tasks provides them with a versatile skill set.
The apprentices are trained to work with projects that they have to manage from start to finish. They thereby gain an in-depth understanding of the possibilities and challenges of the cabinetmaking trade.
FSC-certified wood: the most important Source Material
Almost the entire collection of Danish design classics is manufactured in the Gelsted factory, except the outdoor collection, which is produced in the Carl Hansen & Søn factory in Vietnam.
The sawmills that provide the source material for the factory have long-lasting relationships with the brand and some supply the factory with the best quality wood since the 1950s. Only the best quality from the inner parts of the trunks are used and all the wood is FSC-certified.
The brand calculates how much wood will be needed for the next year and sawmills from different locations supply the raw materials. Oak wood is typically sourced within the EU, Beechwood within Denmark, and walnut from the US.
The production process of the Wishbone chair
I have talked about the CH24 Wishbone chair designed by Hans J. Wegner and its place inside many modern and classic interiors before and it was such a treat to be able to take a peek behind the scenes and see how they craft their iconic design pieces.
The CH24 wishbone chair has the iconic Y-shaped back and a woven paper cord seat, which has become a famous design icon that has been in continuous production ever since it was brought onto the market in 1950.
The paper cord seat alone takes a skilled craftsman 1 hour to complete and that’s only the last step in the production process to create this truly iconic piece.
Production and sanding of the pieces
The iconic form of the chair involves the production of 14 different parts, including a steam-bent top and the paper cord seat. Each of the parts is sanded during the manufacturing process and inspected thoroughly by skilled craftsmen.
We were able to try out sanding the authentic wishbone chair parts and it is so much more difficult than it looks.
Assembly of the Wishbone Chair or Y-chair
After sanding down the pieces, they are assembled the traditional way using only glue and no screws. Some of the chairs from the Carl Hansen & Søn collection take 20 minutes to assemble, and some take 5 hours, depending on the complexity.
The skilled craftsman uses a variety of different tools to assemble the Wishbone chair and at the end, the CH24 chair is placed underneath blue light to check for any glue residue, as this will show as a dark spot after oiling.
Each chair is stamped with an employee number so that on the rare occasion a chair comes back to the factory with a mistake, the same employee can fix the piece and learn from their mistake.
Applying the paper cord seat
The last step of the production of the Wishbone chairs, after oiling or painting, is the weaving of the iconic natural paper cord seat. 150m of paper cord goes into the seat of one chair and it takes about 1 hour to weave the Wishbone chair, while other more complex pieces like the Faaborg Chair might take up to 1,5 days to complete.
To avoid having to pull through 150m of chord every time, each of the paper chord pieces is 7m long and a knot is tied that can be hidden and will never loosen.
Carl Hansen & Søns commitment to sustainability
Apart from sourcing wood from responsibly managed forests and the fact that their iconic pieces are made to last a lifetime, the factory reuses wastewater in the factory and makes sure every bit of wood is reused in some way.
Smaller wood pieces left after manufacturing the furniture pieces are made into an accessory line specially designed for this purpose, but even the smallest wood shavings don’t get discarded.
The brand repurposes the little scrap that remains as fuel in a district heating plant that provides warmth to more than 400 local homes in Gelsted.

This stylish Swedish home (Styled by Studio Rydman, photographed by Lina Östling for Historiska Hem) has white walls and a beautiful, natural color palette with a combination of carefully considered design classics and contemporary pieces in the living room with herringbone hardwood flooring.
The small white bedroom has white-painted hardwood flooring, making this tiny space feel bigger than it is. The bedroom wall has a vintage window looking out onto the kitchen, which provides the space with a characterful look and at the same time guides some daylight from the bedroom into the kitchen, which doesn’t have any direct natural daylight coming in.
The kitchen space lies right next to the bedroom and has a black and white tile floor. The colors of the tiles come back in the white cabinets and the black countertops for an impressive contrasting effect in the small kitchen space.
An elegant living room with white walls and a mixture of classic and modern pieces
The white walls in the living room are paired with natural linen curtains in front of the windows, which warm up the daylight coming into the space. The white teddy couch pairs nicely with the white structured area rug, the white armchair with wood details, and the impressive art print adding contrast to the wall above the sofa.
The Gubi Timberline floor lamp* adds an elegant shape to the setting with its curved arm and folded lampshade, while the organic dark wood coffee table finishes the look of this area off in a perfect way.
The impressive green plant in the corner of the living room sits on a gorgeous little stool and finishes off the gallery wall in this section perfectly. The wall rug on this wall adds so much texture to the beautiful natural color palette.
The tall wall mirror between the two windows adds extra dimension to the space,

The small bedroom with white walls and white flooring reflects the daylight coming through the window gorgeously. The green fiddle fig tree next to the bed adds a fresh touch to the color palette and the window sill is filled with books and decor objects.
The white floors are finished with a sheepskin rug and a cute wooden stool, which stand out against the surrounding white tones in the space.
A vintage indoor window connects the bedroom with the kitchen and allows daylight to flow into the kitchen space, which doesn’t get any direct light.
A beautiful selection of brown and beige tones and a travertine lamp decorate the crisp white bedroom window sill.

A small hallway with custom storage
The hallway features the same black and white floor tiles as in the kitchen, which is paired with custom shelving that includes hooks and a rail for coats and jackets.
