White plank floors and white walls in a small studio apartment

post

This all-white studio apartment features white plank floors, white walls, and white furniture for a crisp and bright-looking interior design that makes this small space look more spacious. All the white surfaces in this studio apartment reflect the daylight coming in, which is an especially effective way of brightening up interiors that don’t get a lot of daylight.

A crisp white living space with lots of textiles for a soft yet bright look

Other than the white walls, white ceilings, and white plank floors, this living space is characterized by a beautiful combination of a lot of textiles that add a lot of texture and coziness to the interior design.

The white curtains on each side of the rather small window form the perfect backdrop for the white Ikea Soderhamn sofa with a custom Bemz cover* and the large white area rug. This all-white setting has been complemented with a black coffee table, black floor lamp, and a beautiful mixture of darker green and beige tones in the throw pillows.

The living space features a built-in closet space, which has been enhanced with a peg rail next to it for hanging clothes. The curved standing mirror is perfect in this wardrobe section, yet it also reflects the room to make it appear bigger.

The bedroom section of the living space features a mixture of white, dark grey, and orange tones in the bedding and beige tones in the art print on the wall.

The area rug in the sofa area is placed so it ends right where the bedroom section starts, to visually separate the functional areas from each other.

The black shelf behind the bed contrasts nicely with the white plank floor and visually separates the bed when entering the space from the doorway.

The kitchen shares the same bright white color palette as the living space, featured by white walls and white plank floors. Even though the kitchen itself is a bit outdated, the dining area and the small accessories make the design work.

The beautiful vintage round dining table in front of the window is paired up with a black pendant light and a long peg rail for a cozy and characterful setting.

Bamboo kitchen cabinets in a villa in Oslo

post

Norwegian Ask og Eng specializes in custom kitchens made out of bamboo kitchen cabinets for a modern and sustainable solution for kitchen designs and remodels. One of their kitchen remodels in a villa in Oslo features beautiful dark-stained bamboo combined with a beige limestone countertop and a chrome faucet for a modern look.

A kitchen island combined with a small dining area

The layout of the kitchen has been planned on both walls of the kitchen space, allowing for the middle area to be filled with a beautiful kitchen island.

The modern pattern of the hardwood flooring contrasts nicely with the dark-stained bamboo of the cabinets and the light greige wall color of the walls in the kitchen.

The wall without any windows is used to place the tall cupboards and appliances and on each side of the kitchen island, there is a spot for a dining table: a small round one to have a quick coffee and a larger one for family dinners.

Dark stained bamboo kitchen cabinets combined with warm tones

The dark tone of the bamboo is much more dramatic than the warm tones used in the kitchen design in this Rotterdam townhouse and I love the way it contrasts with the materials in the rest of the kitchen.

The handles of the kitchen cabinets have been integrated into the design for a minimal, yet elegant look and the absence of a backsplash gives this design a modern appearance.

The main kitchen module by the windows is lowered on the side and makes a perfect seating bench by the dining table. By combining the dark bamboo with warm oak tones in both of the dining tables, the material and color palette looks very balanced.

As a finishing touch, the material of the bamboo kitchen cabinets has been used in a custom storage solution in the living room as well. Open shelving to display objects is elegantly combined with closed storage on the bottom of the module.

A beige color palette in a turn-of-the-century home

post

This beautiful turn-of-the-century Swedish home features a mainly beige color palette combined with warm wood tones for an elegant interior design that complements so nicely with the historic architectural features in the building.

The different rooms in this spacious apartment have been painted in tones of beige, combined with nude pink and blue in the guest bedroom and kids’ room. The beige color palette is continued in the kitchen cabinets and the custom built-ins, and even the guest bathroom has beautiful pops of beige.

The kitchen combines minimal beige kitchen cabinets with beige limestone on the waterfall kitchen island, countertops, and backsplash. The subtle beige wall color matches perfectly with the color of the cabinets and the chrome hardware adds a modern appearance to the space.

The asymmetrical floor plan of the kitchen allows for the module of the appliances to be used from both sides and I love the way open shelving is integrated on the side of the closed cabinets.

The modern and minimal appearance of the kitchen is contrasted by a vintage dining table and a Mona Lisa reproduction on the wall in between the windows. The Ay Illuminate fabric pendant light is the perfect choice above the dining table.

Warm beige living room walls and a custom solution for the TV

The warm beige living room walls bring out the white crown molding and the white floorboards in a perfect way. The combination of the two off-white fabric sofas with the white fluffy area rug lightens up the beige color palette and the beige marble coffee table fits this look perfectly.

The Spanish lounge chair functions as a classic eye-catcher in front of the angled living room wall featuring a large rounded mirror that reflects the space and the daylight coming into these large windows.

The TV is placed on a custom bookshelf featuring closed storage space on the bottom. The impressive wall shelf fills almost the entire wall and by painting it in the same beige paint color as the walls, it blends in with the interior of the living room perfectly.

A subtle beige color palette in the master bedroom

The master bedroom has been painted in a subtle beige wall color that makes the white wardrobe and the white textiles on both the bed and in front of the windows stand out. A large off-white area rug underneath the bed partially covers the dark hardwood flooring for a brighter effect in the room that softens the beige color palette.

The guest room has been painted in a subtle pink wall color, which gives it a very elegant touch enhanced by the mixture of beiges and pinks in the accessories.

The String shelf on the wall functions as a workspace as well and integrates smoothly with the curved walls in this space.

The third bedroom has been painted in a subtle grey-blue wall color that makes the white furniture pieces stand out. Rather than working with neutral tones, a few black and dark grey elements finish off this room nicely for a contrasting effect.

A modern villa design with a private pool

post

Renowned design and architecture agency Norm Architects just finished this beautiful modern villa design with a private pool just north of Barcelona. The private family home features minimalistic lines and natural materials for an honest design language with an airy expression that blurs the lines between the interior design and the outdoor area.

Norm Architects take on a Spanish villa design shares a resemblance with their use of oak and concrete in this Japandi-style family home, yet in a more minimal and stripped-down fashion,.

A wall of windows combined with a private pool

The large windows on the clean white lines of the facade of the modern villa design look out onto a private pool that shapes the minimal design language of the outdoor area. The windows can all be opened, to merge the interior with the outdoor area, which is a great feature in the Spanish climate.

An elegant oak and concrete kitchen that matches the modern villa design

The minimal kitchen design contains Norm Architects’ own Profile design for Reform in oak with brass accents in the integrated handles and a modern concrete countertop.

The oak wood comes back in the large dining table and chairs for a cohesive look that adds warmth to the white walls and concrete surfaces of this modern villa design.

On the other side of the fireplace module, you can find a modern living room decorated in a neutral color palette with a round oak coffee table to finish the look off.

The structured white area rug and the sheer white curtains add a certain elegance to the architecture, without compromising its powerful minimalistic lines and material features.

While one side of the modern villa design looks out on the private pool, from the windows in the living room and kitchen, you have a great view over the village.

CH24 wishbone chair reintroduced in teak

post

Most of you probably know or have seen the CH24 wishbone chair designed by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son. Over the years, the wishbone chair, sometimes called y-chair has become a true icon of modern Danish design, and Hans Wegner is considered one of the most creative, innovative, and prolific Danish furniture designers.

Recently Carl Hansen & Son introduced the iconic dining chair in teak and I had the opportunity of trying out the new CH24 wishbone chairs in my own home.

The wishbone dining chair designed by Hans Wegner

Hans Wegner designed the first model of the Wishbone chair exclusively for Carl Hansen & Son in 1949 and the dining chair has been in continuous production ever since. With its unique form that combines the back-and armrest into a single piece, stability is given to the steam-bent top, while allowing for comfortable support.

The characteristic Y-shaped back that the wishbone chairs are named after is combined with elegant, tapered legs and a paper cord seat that can be complemented with a seat cushion.

The manufacturing requires more than 100 steps and the hand-woven seat alone with its’ 120 meters long paper cord and natural finish takes a skilled craftsman about an hour to create.

The solid wood Wishbone chair offers comfort and stability, combined with a distinct, elegant form and a modern design that has gained recognition as the ideal chair over the years.

A solid wood frame in teak and paper cord

I have tried out the CH24 wishbone chair in a lacquered version before, but the way the teak wood accentuates the curved backrest and complements the woven seat made out of a natural paper cord is so much more apparent in the teak version.

The teak wood frame adds warmth to the classic design of the Wishbone chair which is balanced out by the neutral tone of the durable paper cord seat. The vibrant color of the teak has noticeable color variations in the natural black grains of the solid wood, making this version of the Wishbone chair so characterful and elegant.

I have used the teak wishbone chair in both my office and as a dining chair and I love the way the design complements the original herringbone hardwood flooring in my apartment while standing out against the white color palette I have in my interior.

Teak wood was used in CH24 wishbone chairs from the 1950s-1960s

The first Wishbone chairs produces in the 1950s-1960s were made out of teak wood, which gave them their much-loved intense color. As the popularity of Wegner’s design grew, the use of tropical teak wood was replaced by Nordic wood types like oak and beech.

In the past 70 years, however, teak forestry has changed dramatically and it’s now possible to source teak wood from responsibly managed forests. This makes it possible to responsibly produce the wishbone chair in its original solid wood frame again like Hans Wegner first imagined.

Teak wood is very strong and stable and has a vibrant color that elegantly changes during its lifetime from orange to a reddish-brown hue. The black grain of the wood results in a dynamic expression that stays beautiful due to its natural content of oil.

CH327 table in teak with oak details

Along with the release of the wishbone chairs in teak, Carl Hansen reintroduced the CH327 dining table in teak wood as well, which allows you to complete your dining room setting. Also designed by Hans Weger, the CH327 dining table has a table top that appears to float above a refined frame featuring impeccable carvings and joints.

The dining table is now introduced in teak with oak details and a design aesthetic that complements wonderfully with the wishbone chair.

*This blog post was written in collaboration with Carl Hansen & Son, however as always, my opinions are my own.

Light grey kitchen cabinets and a sage green bedroom in an eclectic Scandinavian home

post

This beautiful Swedish apartment has a mix of eclectic influences, combined with Scandinavian touches and a shaker kitchen with light grey kitchen cabinets that takes front and center in the interior design of the space.

The bedroom has rounded walls, which are painted in a beautiful sage green wall color, and an improvised hallway section is finished off with a statement wallpaper that finishes off the look of this gorgeous place.

Light grey kitchen cabinets with white subway tiles and wood hardware

The shaker kitchen lies in between the bedroom and the living room and takes a central position in the layout of the apartment. The shaker design of the light grey kitchen cabinets fits the historic character and architectural details of the apartment very well and complements the white walls and the soap-washed hardwood flooring perfectly.

The original crown molding on the ceiling has been extended on top of the upper cabinets of the floor-to-ceiling kitchen to make the layout integrate perfectly with its environment.

The light grey kitchen cabinets are finished off with wood hardware and black appliances, while the white subway tile backsplash finishes this classic look off nicely. The black and white art print above the kitchen backsplash adds character and the brass peg rail is an elegant finishing touch to the look.

A minimal farmhouse-style dining area with a vintage table

The area by the kitchen window has been used for a beautiful dining area that consists of a vintage dining table combined with a variation of bentwood chairs in different wood tones for a characterful look.

The vintage ladder in combination with the Frida Kahlo art print adds a personal touch and the Golden Pothos plant is guided around the window for an interesting visual element in the space.

An eclectic mix of objects in a living room with light grey walls

The light grey walls of the living room complement the light grey kitchen cabinets in the adjacent kitchen. The grey complements the subtle warm tones in the flooring and accentuates the crown molding and the white window frames in this well-lit space.

The combination of the round wood coffee tables with the bookshelf in between the windows ad the vintage cabinet against the wall works wonderfully with the simple grey sofa and the faded oriental area rug in the room.

The cozy reading corner wedged in between the hallway and the vintage cabinet is made to look very cozy with the art prints on the wall and the vintage floor lamp. The magazine holder on the wall combined with the small wall shelf complements this small section of the living room perfectly.

A sage green bedroom with curved walls

The rounded walls of the bedroom make this space a one-of-a-kind interior to start with. The bedroom walls are painted in a sage green wall color which makes it round shape and the white crown molding stand out in an obvious way.

I love the way a custom headboard behind the bed offers a spot for a bedside lamp, plants, and some small deco objects.

The headboard has been painted in the same sage green color as the walls, which integrates this module perfectly in the space. The sockets have been moved onto the headboard as well, which is a nice touch.

A bedroom with rounded walls, sage green wall color, custom headboard

The entrance of the bedroom has been used for a custom wardrobe module, and just like in the case of the light grey kitchen cabinets, the crown molding has been applied on top of the wardrobe modules for a seamless appearance. The vintage mirror on the wall adds a classic element to the bedroom decor.

A functional hallway section with an eye-catching wallpaper

Since you enter the apartment straight into the living room, an additional wall was constructed to create a separate hallway section. On the other side, this section has been visually separated by placing a custom wardrobe similar to the one in the bedroom.

To visually separate the hallway and living room, a statement wallpaper was applied to the hallway walls, turning it into a characterful section of the apartment.

A small white apartment with subtle pink details

post

This small one-bedroom white apartment has a separate kitchen, yet the living room and the bedroom are combined into one room. The walls of the interior have all been painted white, combined with white furniture and white soft furnishings, and finished off with a subtle touch of pink details here and there.

These pink details tie the kitchen together with the living space, and they also add a certain warmth to the interior design.

A combined bedroom and living room in this white apartment with a warm touch

The living room also has a bed in the same space, yet these two functionalities are combined in a nice way, without making the space feel too cramped.

In the sofa area, the white apartment walls have been complemented with a white sofa, white area rug, white curtains, and even a subtle white artwork on the wall for a very bright appearance that makes this small white apartment look more spacious. A white palette is ideal for small interiors or studio apartments, as it makes the floor plan appear more spacious.

The round wood coffee table, terracotta vase on the window sill, and the subtle pink and brown tones in the textiles really jump out against this white backdrop and add a lovely mix of tones and textures to the palette.

The bed has been placed on the opposite wall, away from the sofa area next to the doorway to the hallway. By adding art prints on both walls next to the bed, this area is visually separated from the rest of the space and the open shelving for the TV by the sofa is continued exactly until the end of the bed which makes the layout work in a nice way.

This kitchen also has white walls, just like the rest of this apartment, yet the windows are finished off with beautiful pink curtains that warm up the daylight coming in. The round white dining table combined with the oak dining chairs is placed on top of an off-white area rug that brightens up the whole space.

The combination of the oak wood peg rail and the small gallery wall above it finish this cozy dining room setting off nicely and I love the way the wood tones complement the white walls and pink details.

The hallway is small, yet used optimally to store away the essentials. A peg rail combined with open shelving makes use of the vertical space available, while the light wood bench finishes off the hallway look perfectly.

Black and white kitchen and a dark blue bedroom wall

post

This beautiful Swedish apartment features a black and white kitchen that has been built in the same space as the living room for an open plan layout that makes smart use of the kitchen island to separate the functional areas.

The mainly white look of the living kitchen is enhanced with subtle black accents and natural wood tones in the furniture. The bedroom on the other hand has a deep dark blue wall that sets this space apart from the rest of the apartment.

A minimal dining and living room with white walls

The living room has a minimal appearance with white walls and white built-ins combined with white-soaped hardwood flooring for a light look. The round white dining table combined with the warm wood wishbone chairs and the bar stools in the same color gives this white space a little bit of warmth.

The custom-built TV cabinet goes over into the white marble kitchen island and breakfast bar. Making both surfaces flow into each other, has a very integrated effect on the room.

The XL wall mirror adds extra dimension to the dining area and it reflects the daylight coming in through the balcony window.

On the other side of the living room, a custom desk is hidden behind a curtain. The desk area consists of floating shelving and a floating surface for the desk itself, which is an elegant solution for this area next to the sofa.

The bedroom has a deep blue wall color combined with black curtains that give the space a little bit of a moody effect. The black and white kitchen cabinets are brought back into the custom-built bedroom wardrobe, which is spread over the length of the entire bedroom wall.

The black Vertigo lamp fits perfectly underneath these high ceilings and adds another contrasting touch of black to the space.

White shaker kitchen cabinets and white walls in an elegant turn-of-the-century home

post

The design of this beautiful turn-of-the-century apartment in Sweden (Styled by @vasakvadrat, sold via Sjöman Frisk) revolves around the beautiful white shaker kitchen cabinets that provide the apartment with a minimal touch that fits so wonderfully well with the ornate historic detailing in the architecture of the place.

The beautiful custom carpentry of the kitchen cabinets comes back in the design of the wardrobes in the bedrooms as well, one of which even includes a built-in desk in such an elegant way.

The overall design of the interior is elegant yet minimal, to not distract from the beautiful features of the apartment itself.

The large marble dining table in front of the window is a true-eye catcher in the space, paired up with classic CH24 wishbone chairs to finish off the look. The voluminous beige curtains warm up the daylight coming through those tall windows and they match the warm look of the herringbone hardwood flooring.

The heaters are covered with custom covers that match the style of the architectural features and the Ferm Living Pond mirror reflects the daylight coming from the windows throughout the space.

While the living room and kitchen have white walls, the master bedroom has been painted in a soft beige wall color highlighting the beautiful crown molding in such a nice way.

The wall color has been continued on the custom-built wardrobes in the room for a tone-on-tone look and the rattan sideboard and bench add some warm tones to the otherwise beige look.

A desk built inside of a custom wardrobe solution

On the other side of the bedroom, the same custom-built wardrobe fills the wall, yet this design has a desk built into it. I think this is such an elegant way of integrating a home office space into a bedroom and I love the combination of the oak wood with the beige color of the cabinet doors.

A greige nursery with a custom wardrobe

The nursery has been painted in a soft greige wall color with curtains and a built-in wardrobe in the same color. The custom wardrobe in this room features an open shelf section to display picture frames and books.
