Light gray walls and dark gray kitchen cabinets in an attic apartment

post

This beautiful one-bedroom attic apartment has been painted almost entirely in a light gray paint color, which is complemented with dark grey kitchen cabinets and a black marble countertop for a contrasting effect.

Even though the apartment has slanted ceilings, it has been decorated in a functional way, leaving enough space for the different functionalities, without making the interior design feel too cramped.

A living kitchen with dark gray cabinets and slanted ceilings

The light gray wall color is applied to the walls, slanted ceiling, and the top ceiling for an integrated effect that adds a bit of a moody touch to the light oakwood flooring. The wall behind the kitchen counter is the only one that was kept white, which makes the contrast with the dark gray cabinets even stronger.

The kitchen features black hardware, a black hood, and black marble countertops which add clean and contrasting lines to the gray kitchen cabinets. Only one higher cupboard is placed on the side away from the window, where there is enough ceiling height. The rest of the kitchen only includes lower modules and open shelving is attached underneath the sloped ceiling for a lighter look.

The dining table has been placed in front of the windows, where a lot of natural light comes in. The light oak wood table is paired up with black Ant chairs from Fritz Hansen and a black Flowerpot pendant light. These black accents complement the details in the kitchen nicely and the small area rug underneath the table visually separates the dining area from the rest of the living kitchen.

Opposed to the dining table, you can find the living room, which has a white fabric sofa and a light area rug to contrast the light gray paint color on the slanted walls. In this section of the space, you can also find black accent pieces like the coffee table and small accessories.

The Etcetera lounge chair adds a sculptural touch to the living room and the Flos Aim pendant is a perfect solution for this living room, as it can adapt to any sloped walls or slanted ceilings.

A DIY home office in a niche space next to the kitchen

In the niche space next to the kitchen, a DIY desk offers a perfect home office spot and it also makes this niche spot useful. The desk is made out of a simple wood plate that is cut to size and two wall brackets.

Just like in the rest of the space, the black accents add contrast to the gray paint color on the slanted ceiling. The black Panthella table lamp and the black stool really seem to pop out against the gray backdrop.

The attic bedroom has much lower ceilings than the rest of the space, which makes it the perfect spot to sleep. By painting the entire room in the same color, a clean and simple look is created that is enhanced by the mixture of different textiles on the bed.

The brass Valerie Objects wall lamp fits perfectly underneath the slanted ceiling and adds an elegant touch to the light gray space.

A beige wall color, bright accents, and light grey kitchen cabinets

post

This beautiful light-flooded apartment in Sweden combines beige and greige wall colors with bright accent colors in the accessories for an exciting look that’s elegant and inviting at the same time.

While the dining and living room are painted in a soft beige wall color, the white walls in the kitchen are complemented with light grey kitchen cabinets with white countertops, brass hardware, and a white subway tile backsplash.

A living room with beige walls, white fluffy area rug, green plants, colorful accents

A living room with a beige palette and bright red and light blue accents

While beige walls usually bring to mind a calm and toned-down interior design, in the case of this living room, the calming beige tones are enhanced with pops of red, bright orange, pink, and light blue in the accessories and art prints to make this room pop.

The light wood floor is covered with a fluffy white area rug which sets the beige wall color apart more from the floor. The white crown moldings on the ceiling pop out against the beige and the beautiful black Vertigo lamp from Petit Friture adds a lovely contrast to the ceiling.

The mixture of red, pink, and light blue tints in the throw pillows on the grey fabric sofa add a wonderful pop of color to the setting and the red, beige, and pink tones come back in the set of art prints on the wall as well.

A beige dining room with red touches and a crystal chandelier

Next to the living room, you can find a dining room that has been painted with the same beige wall paint for an integrated effect between both rooms. The rectangular wood dining table is placed on a thin off-white area rug and the black CH24 wishbone chairs designed by Hans Wegner add a wonderful contrast to the space.

The crystal chandelier that hangs above the middle of the dining table is an impressive piece that matches the historic details in this room and I love that the black of the dining chairs comes back in the metal sideboards.

Just like in the living room, tints of red, pink, and orange add a bright pop and the round mirror reflects the space and the daylight coming through those beautiful windows.

A minimal kitchen with light grey cabinets

The kitchen features simple and minimal grey cabinets that can be found at Ikea. The basic Veddinge cabinets are enhanced with brass hardware, minimal white laminate countertops, and a subtle white subway tile backsplash that goes all the way up to the ceiling.

The combination of both upper and lower cabinets with high cupboards on the wall by the kitchen door provides ample storage space and I love that the kitchen cabinets go over into open shelving for cookbooks towards the window. The L-shaped kitchen layout works perfectly in this large space.

The small dining area in the kitchen combines a simple round white table with cognac leather dining chairs and subtle pops of color that are coherent with the look of the rest of the apartment.

A greige bedroom with a pop of orange

The bedroom has greige walls for a combination of moody tones that are a bit darker than the rest of the apartment. The gold wall lamps and the tones in the art print above the bed add more warmth to this setting, while the bright orange throw blanket on the bed adds a pop of color.

A stunning home with grey walls and a grey shaker kitchen

post

This stunning apartment in a turn-of-the-century building in Sweden (Styled by Mia Laaksonen, photographed by Henrik Linden for Alvhem) has the most beautiful historic features, which are perfectly integrated into the interior design of the place. The walls of the kitchen and living room have been painted in a light gray paint color, while the bedrooms have a green or beige coat of paint.

Apart from the colorful accents in the blue velvet sofas in the living room, the interior has been decorated mostly with a neutral color palette, highlighting the beautiful crown molding, wall paneling, and floorboards of this historic building.

A gray shaker kitchen with green-gray countertops and brass hardware

The beautiful gray kitchen with its green-gray backsplash and marble countertops fits perfectly in the space. The kitchen walls have been painted in the same gray wall color as the kitchen cabinets, which makes it look very integrated into the interior.

The brass accents in the hardware on the kitchen cabinetry add a lovely focal point and the white crown molding in the kitchen is not original. You can see that it follows the layout of the upper cabinets, which means it must have been applied together with the kitchen remodel.

The interior designer planned the upper kitchen cabinets in this L-shaped layout only at the walls furthest away from the windows for a light and airy effect. The floor-to-ceiling kitchen cabinets next to the built-in hood have glass fronts, for a typical classy shaker look. The backsplash behind the stove protects the wall from splatters and matches the countertop material.

A round dining table adds warmth in front of the gray walls

The light wood tones of the round dining table and dining chairs stand out so nicely against the backdrop of the light gray walls and the white-soaped hardwood floors.

The window frames and floorboards have been painted in a darker gray color and the XL round mirror on the wall reflects the natural light coming in through those windows in the dining room area.

Light gray walls combined with a darker gray paint on the doors in the living room

The wainscoting in the living room has been painted in the same color as the light gray walls, yet the ornate door frames are painted in a darker gray to make them stand out. Just like in the other rooms, the crown molding is painted white to match the color of the ceiling.

The classic look of the historic details in this interior is matched by two classic sofas in blue velvet on each side of the room. The light grey fluffy area rug fills the space with a beautiful texture and the crystal chandelier adds the finishing touch to this room.

A bedroom with muted green walls and a built-in wardrobe above the bed

The muted green bedroom walls can be seen from the living room and the beautiful custom-built wardrobe around the bed has been painted in the same color as the wall for an integrated effect and a tone-on-tone look. The wardrobe has not been built all the way up to the ceiling, so you can still observe the white moldings above it.

The niche space in between the custom wardrobes is perfect for the bed and the two brass accent reading lamps above the pillows finish this setup off nicely. The mixture of light and dark gray throw pillows on the bed and the area rug on the floor add a lot of texture to the clean lines of the wardrobe.

On the other side of the room, you can find a small bedroom home office spot, which consists of a vintage desk that has been painted and a light grey paint color that complements the wall color nicely. Just like in the kitchen, the round mirror is a beautiful addition to this corner and it ensures more light can spread throughout the room.

Warm minimalism and a white farmhouse kitchen in a light-flooded apartment

post

While there is a certain appeal to minimalist interior design, to some, including myself it can easily feel cold and clinical, without many personal touches.

While there is certainly something to be said about the advantages of leading a minimalist, clutter-free lifestyle, including how you decorate your home, warm minimalism combines clean lines and uncluttered surfaces with a cozy, warm look that makes a room personal and inviting.

Warm minimalism in a living room, gallery wall, Cuba chairs, travertine coffee table, organic gray fabric sofa, white fluffy area rug

A warm minimalist living room in warm and neutral tones

The living room in this beautiful turn-of-the-century Swedish apartment has been decorated with a warm minimalist approach. While the furniture and accessories have been picked out mindfully, leaving ample white space around each space, the interior design still exuberates a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

The simple aesthetic of the light grey fabric sofa with organic shapes has been complemented with a travertine coffee table and two beautiful Cuba lounge chairs in oak and natural linen. The white fluffy area rug fills a large surface area in the space and adds character and a beautiful, warm textural effect.

The warm tones in the furniture and accessories complement the warm color of the historic fireplace perfectly and the gallery wall adds the perfect focal point to this warm minimalism style.

The living room and kitchen are connected by two arch doorways and the space in between them is the perfect spot to strategically place the TV. This way it doesn’t take up such a prominent space in the interior, yet it can still be comfortably watched from the sofa.

White shaker cabinets and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen

While warm minimalism takes over the interior look of the living room, the kitchen has a subtle farmhouse look created by the white shaker cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and the small white subway tile backsplash behind the stove.

The white shaker cabinets are finished off with stainless steel hardware, grey marble countertops, and a kitchen island with a sink in the middle of the space that separates the kitchen from the dining area.

The layout of the kitchen had to be planned out around the curved wall by the window, which is quite the challenge, yet by placing the lower cabinets in an L-shape by the window, the straight walls could be filled with high cupboards and a stainless steel hood.

The white subway tile backsplash has only been applied to the area behind the stove, yet it adds a beautiful texture to the white cabinets and it makes the gray countertop stand out in a nice way.

A curved wall shelf has been added to the white farmhouse kitchen, which must have been quite the challenge to get right, yet it ties the design together wonderfully.

An impressive wall-to-wall bookshelf in the dining area

The dining area is placed on the other side of the kitchen island and in this section the open shelving going wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling combined with the vintage dining table really add character. The perfect combination of dining area and home library.

The warm wood of the dining table and chairs contrast nicely with the white kitchen island and the &Tradition Betty chairs have the same material combination as the lounge chairs in the living room, which is a niche touch.

A small DIY home office spot

In between the living room and the kitchen, you can find a small home office spot constructed in front of a niche space where floating shelves have been added. The simple DIY desk is attached to the wall with wood brackets and fits this small space perfectly.

The natural materials in the wood desk and the vintage chair turn this functional space into an elegant section of the apartment that matches the warm minimalism present throughout the interior.

A cozy yet minimal master bedroom

The natural elements and the warm yet light color palette in the bedroom make this room cozy, while still having a minimalist appearance. The beige and earthy colors in the textiles add a warm touch to the white bedframe and the light gray walls in the space, while the warm beige Umage feather lamp adds both texture and warmth to the setting.

A home office spot combined with a walk-in-closet

When you walk from the master bedroom into the walk-in closet, you will find a second small home office spot with a beautiful antique desk. The light gray paint color on the desk matches perfectly with the subtle gray wall color in this space and the mirror reflects the space and the natural light in a beautiful way.

A guest bedroom with a subtle, warm color palette

The guest bedroom is stripped down to the essential functionality, with just a bed, bedside table, and peg rail decorating the space, yet the warm color palette and the textures in the fabrics and wallpaper create a beautifully warm, and inviting setting in this space.

A minimalist eclectic decor in a turn-of-the-century apartment

post

This beautiful turn-of-the-century apartment in Sweden is really quite something. The building has the most impressive historic architectural details that make it one of a kind and the minimal yet eclectic interior design style complements these beautiful features perfectly.

The living and dining room has a beautiful hardwood ceiling with ornate detailing in a warm wood tone, which takes away all the attention when entering the space, while the rest of the apartment has a more modest look. The neutral color palette in the eclectic interior design complements the historic details perfectly, without overpowering them.

A subtle eclectic style in a gorgeous living room with wood ceilings

Since the elaborate detailing in the ceiling of the living room adds so much visual interest to the space, the color palette has been kept very neutral to complement the warm wood tones.

The large rectangular dining table by the window forms the perfect neutral base in combination with the parquet flooring, while the warm wood dining chairs add an additional wood tone to the mix.

The organically shaped wood art piece in the middle of the table is the focal point in the dining area, and I love that this piece gets reflected in the mirror hanging between the two windows.

The polka dot sofa is paired up with polka dot throw pillows, an elegant marble coffee table set, and a subtle black and white area rug that brightens up the warm wood tones in this section of the living room.

The long wall shelf on the wall is ideal for displaying accent pieces, while the two mirrors on each side of the room reflect the natural light coming through those big windows. The area above the sofa has been decorated with a gallery wall and I love the subtle color palette in the wall art, which goes nicely with the different styles of furniture in this space.

The design style of this space integrates clean lines and a sleek minimalist feel with an eclectic design style, which perfectly summarizes eclectic minimalism.

A minimal kitchen combined with vintage pieces for an eclectic interior design

The eclectic minimalism decor style is continued in the two-tone kitchen as well, where new elements are combined with vintage pieces. The two-tone kitchen cabinets give the interior a modern look, yet by adding a vintage upper cabinet and vintage plate shelves on top of two of the kitchen modules, the kitchen gets a subtle eclectic feel with lots of character.

I think the simplicity and minimalism of the modern kitchen cabinetry complement the elaborate aesthetic of the vintage pieces and both create an interesting mix of styles.

The large kitchen window has been painted in the same color as the lower kitchen modules for an integrated effect. The green color also comes back inside the beautiful vintage vitrine cabinet and adding color in such a strategic place, makes your eye focus on it immediately.

The small round dining table combined with the black Fritz Hansen Ant chairs has found the perfect spot in front of the window and I feel it ties the layout of the room together nicely.

Eclectic minimalism in a neutral color palette bedroom and home office space

The color palette of the bedroom is probably the most neutral one in this apartment. The ceiling and the crown molding have been painted in a beige paint color, while the walls have been kept white. The ceiling color accentuated the asymmetry of this spacious bedroom, which contains both a bed and a home office area.

A large rug with a soft texture and black-and-white patterns separates the sleeping area from the office functionality while the long sideboard adds extra storage space in front of the window. The two vintage Louis Poulsen Panthella table lamps add variety to the interior and two art prints with deep colors are hung up above them.

The vintage desk combined with the vintage linen cabinet adds a different aesthetic to the home office area, which makes this room a perfect mixture of eclectic minimalism elements. The Flos Snoopy lamp in black and the Dora Maar vase from Jonathan Adler are the perfect accent pieces needed to finish off this home decor and they are the finishing touch to the natural elements in the wood tones of the furniture and soft furnishings.

A studio apartment with a tall beige kitchen

post

This studio apartment in Sweden has a separate bathroom and a small hallway that is used as a home office spot as well, yet the main functionalities are all combined in one room rather than a separately available bedroom like is usually the case in a slightly bigger one-bedroom apartment.

The kitchen is the central element of this studio apartment and it covers the entire wall from left to right and floor to ceiling. Optimally using vertical space like this is a great tip for decorating studio apartments, especially if you are working with high ceilings just like in the case of this beautiful home.

A studio apartment with light gray walls, beige kitchen, folding screen between sleeping area and living area

A ceiling-high kitchen with beige cabinets to optimize wall space

One of the walls of the kitchen and living area is filled entirely with a beautiful kitchen in a minimal design with beige kitchen cabinets combined with white laminate countertops and black hardware.

When you don’t have a lot of floor space available, just like in this living space, it’s crucial to optimize storage space where possible. Those tall cupboards and upper cabinets that go all the way up to the ceiling look very modern and sleek, yet at the same time, they also offer storage opportunities for this micro apartment.

The fact that the kitchen cabinets touch the ceilings only accentuates the ceiling height of this studio apartment, which in turn makes it visually more spacious: a goal you want to achieve when decorating studio apartments.

A dining room area in front of a rounded window

The beautiful, large rounded window is one of the most impressive features of this studio apartment as it fills the small space with an abundance of natural light. The limited space in front of the window has been used for a small round dining table, which complements the no-nonsense style of the kitchen perfectly and seats 4 people.

The small round HAY CPH20 dining table combined with the J39 chairs in light oak wood goes very nicely with the light gray walls and the beige kitchen cabinets. The window sill does double duty as a seating area as well, which is a perfect solution for combining functionalities on small square footage/meters.

Living and sleeping area separated by a rattan folding screen

When decorating and planning the layout of studio apartments, you should always try to find a nice way of dividing the functional areas and separating them from each other. This is the case for both a small and large room in fact.

The white fabric sofa combined with the white coffee table and the warm beige area rug goes very nicely with the light gray wall color with which all the walls in this studio apartment have been painted.

The area rug, artwork on the wall, and the floor lamp by the sofa all contribute to visually separating the functional areas from each other, while the room divider made out of rattan actually creates a separate bedroom area in the layout. Folding screens like this are so easy to use and they don’t require any remodeling, which is great when decorating a rental.

The sleeping space of the studio apartment is small, yet sufficient and the foot of the bed has been decorated with a beautiful gallery wall, which goes all the way up to the ceiling. Just like the kitchen, this beautiful combination of art prints accentuates the ceiling height of this beautiful studio apartment.

An apartment with cool grey walls and a blue kitchen

post

This beautiful turn-of-the-century apartment in Sweden has gorgeous crown moldings and floorboards, accentuated by the green-gray and blue-gray paint colors on the wall in the different rooms.

The kitchen and living room are connected to each other in an open layout and the dark blue kitchen cabinets go so nicely with the blue-gray color on the walls. Blue-gray paint colors tend to work best in rooms with warm daylight coming in so that the blue undertone of the paint doesn’t overpower the gray tones.

A living room with a blue-gray wall color, white moldings, white floorboards, white area rug, white sofa, green textiles, fireplace

Blue-gray paint color in the living room

Depending on the angle from which you look at the living room walls, you could call this color a faded sky blue, or a gray-blue. The floorboards in the living room are pretty high, which accentuates the bluish-gray paint colors on the wall, while at the same time contrasting with the warm hardwood flooring throughout the space.

The white sofa and area rug in the living room are complemented with blue and green tints in the textiles and furnishings and I love that a shade of pale blue also comes back in the art print on the wall above the sofa.

The warm wood of the TV cabinet, and coffee table, and the cognac leather on the armchair add a warm touch to the otherwise cool tones in the interior design and the wall next to the window has been used for floating shelving combined with a small home office spot.

Blue kitchen cabinets and white glossy metro tiles

The blue kitchen shares an open-plan layout with the living room and has these beautiful bay windows that let in an abundance of natural light. The kitchen itself has been planned on the walls without windows or doors, to optimally use this space and includes both upper and lower cabinets, which provide a lot of storage space.

The dark blue kitchen cabinets pair up nicely with the glossy white subway tile backsplash and the stainless steel appliances and brass hardware. The blue cabinets on the top go all the way up to the ceiling, just like the backsplash does, which gives the blue kitchen a very elegant look, highlighting the crown molding in the space.

The impressive white oval Eero Saarinen dining table combined with the black &Tradition Betty dining chairs add a beautiful black and white contrast to the cool color palette of the kitchen cabinets.

Gray with green undertones in the bedroom

The bedroom has a very neutral decor, yet the gray wall color with green undertones gives the interior a sophisticated look. I love the way the rattan headboard and the white chest of drawers just seem to jump out of this beautiful wall color and the green tones in the art print above the bed complete the look nicely.

Gray-green herringbone tiles and brass accents in the bathroom

The bathroom is fully tiled from floor to ceiling with gray-green porcelain tiles in a herringbone pattern, which looks quite impressive in the space. The black bathroom cabinet combined with the brass fixture finishes off the look of this bathroom in a subtle yet sophisticated way.

William morris wallpaper in a Scandinavian interior

post

This beautifully decorated apartment in Sweden has not one but two rooms fully covered in wallpaper designed by William Morris and the effect is just impressive.

While we usually see William Morris’ wallpaper and fabric designs in more traditional interiors (think London townhouses), in this apartment, they have been mixed up with Scandinavian touches for a more toned-down and minimal look that is still full of character and personality.

A mix of wallpaper designs and a minimal Scandinavian touch

The main bedroom has been covered with the Pimpernel design, while the guest bedroom is a perfect showcase of the natural forms in the Willow Boughs minor design. The living room and the kitchen have a more minimal look with painted walls in a natural color palette.

The patterns and colors in the wallpapers add a lot of texture to the interior, which has been toned down by a modest Scandinavian interior design with a mixture of Danish classics, vintage pieces, and fabrics in soft and natural tones.

The master bedroom has been covered in the Pimpernel design from Morris co, which has an impressive effect on the interior of this room. The popular design inspired by the natural world is feminine yet robust and the complex structure of the pattern was chosen by William Morris personally to decorate his Kelmscott manor.

The warm tones in the flowers in the bedroom wallpaper come back in the beautiful mixture of textiles on the bed, in the natural wood tones of the furniture, and in the textile lampshade next to the bed.

The light oak bench behind the bed combined with the textured area rug give the bedroom a light Scandinavian look which contrasts the Morris co wallpaper nicely.

Off-white walls and vintage pieces in the living room

The living room has been painted in a subtle off-white wall color that makes the white trim on the ceiling stand out in a subtle way. The light hardwood flooring is darkened by the dark beige area rug underneath the warm grey sofa and the mixture of warm wood and beige textiles makes the interior look cozy and inviting.

The daylight coming through the windows is softened out by the sheer beige curtains and the vintage furniture pieces add a lot of character to the space. The floating shelves by the bedroom doorway are built all the way up to the ceiling, which gives them an impressive look.

A simple dining area in the kitchen with greige walls

While the kitchen itself is a bit outdated, I think the dining area really makes up for it. The kitchen walls are painted in greige, which is paired up with a beautiful round oak dining table and white Ant chairs from Fritz Hansen.

The white area rug lightens up the color palette in the kitchen and the String shelf is the perfect place to gather glass containers in the kitchen.

A more modest wallpaper design in the guest bedroom

While the wallpaper in the main bedroom has quite a bold design, for the guest bedroom combined home office space a more modest William Morris design was chosen.

The Willow Boughs minor design has a subtle look that is perfect for smaller spaces and depicts patterns of delicate willow leaves that is also available as fabric designs. William Morris designed this pattern in 1887 and it’s so impressive to see it in so many interiors still today.

post

While picking out paint colors for your interior, I’m sure beige has crossed your mind. It’s a neutral paint color that is often picked out in all sorts of homes because of how accessible beige is to pair up with other interior elements. For this reason though in the past years, it has been called boring as well.

Below I gathered the most inspiring living room designs with beige walls that are far from boring and I promise you they will make you want to whip out your paintbrush.

Work with Different Colors to add depth and Style

If you’re worried your beige living room will look boring or uninspired, you can make the look more unique and characterful with subtle pops of color. A pop of pink, orange, yellow, teal, or blue will create a focal point that stands out against the shades of beige.

Match your Beige Paint with a Beige Sofa and Natural Details

To achieve a warm and tonal effect, pair warm beige walls with a beige sofa and a natural color palette in your furniture pieces. Pick out white textiles to brighten the palette and achieve a light look.
