A light grey flat with wainscoting and a tone-on-tone kitchen

post

In this roomy flat (Styled by Emma Fisher and Annica Clarmell, photographed by Henrik Linden for Alvhem), light grey creates a modern, moody space. Wainscoting lends it more unique details, while the tone-on-tone kitchen creates the ultimate contemporary cooking space.

Tone-on-Tone Grey Elevates this Modern Kitchen

In this ultra-modern space, the light grey kitchen cabinets match the walls and trim, creating a contemporary, tone-on-tone look. Lighter brown hardwood floors add a bit of softness and prevent the kitchen from feeling too monochrome.

A small round wooden dining table and darker wooden chairs bring a comfortable, welcoming feel to this otherwise modern space. A potted plant and flowers in a vase also add a natural element that softens the overall design.

Wainscoting Adds Unique Detail to the Living Section

Topped by a slender shelf, the grey wainscoting in this home’s living section creates a dramatic look. Adding the shelf at the top of the wainscoting near the ceiling gives the homeowner a place to display a few items without crowding the room.

Sweet Features Define the Kid’s Room

White walls and a white kitchen give the space a clean, crisp feel, while a myriad of design elements help to add a modern, personalized touch.

A Black Sectional Adds Chic Style to This White Living Room

Although the walls, ceiling, and trim are painted a bright white, the oversized black sectional sofa grounds this living room and provides a dramatic focal point. A thick, white shag rug and a white globe pendant light serve as reminders that the overall design is meant to be bright and simple.

A dramatic work of art hanging on the wall adds another bold touch of black, as does the black ceramic vase holding green, lively branches. The simple curved taper candle holder on the dining table is also black, helping to tie everything together beautifully.

Although there aren’t many, the grey cabinets with white trim still provide plenty of storage, mainly thanks to the tall pantry located on one side of the kitchen. A small window brings in natural light, and the open shelving on the wall gives the cabin owner additional storage and more valuable space.

Villa Housu: a contemporary raw wood cabin in Lapland

post

This gorgeous cabin in the woods of Lapland, the northernmost region of Finland is designed by Fyra (in collaboration with Ark Helsinki, photographed by Riikka Kantinkoski) and nestled in a ski resort, where this holiday home is the perfect getaway for the design-conscious.

Villa Housu is tailored to cater to the needs of an active outdoor family. A strong dialogue between architecture and interior design has been a driving force, resulting in an interior atmosphere that exudes warmth and relaxation, while staying true to a minimalistic design aesthetic.

The focus on a functional design is very apparent in this cozy raw wood cabin, with storage areas and functional elements intertwined with the cohesive layout of the house. Finnish pine wood covers all surfaces except the bathrooms, where functionality necessitates harder materials. The extensive use of spruce ensures a seamless integration with the surrounding environment.
